Yes the ssd is pretty fast I haven't done a geek bench as of yet. Transfer speeds are really fast between USB 3.0 flash drive with my usb-c to USB A dongle. Um... the track pad and the new butterfly keyboard are going to take some getting used to. Any other questions? The keyboard feels like it has more travel than the MacBook 12" version it feels different for sure though.

Well... Ended up cancelling my initial order of the touch bar version and instead got a...

13" MacBook Pro no touch bar
2.0 intel core i5 CPU
16GB RAM
512GB SSD

+ Apple Care

Arriving 7-9 Nov

still a saving of £200 compared to the older price, I just couldn't justify paying that much for what will end up being a gimmick for me.. I'll just continue learning keyboard shortcuts for that and type my password instead :)

reason why you did that?

Also do you think there will be a difference in day to day usage on the CPU?

This computer feels kind of slower at 2.0ghz compared to my MacBook Pro with 2.6ghz.
[doublepost=1477696485][/doublepost]I can confirm that the 3 pounds from 3.5 pounds doesn't feel any different to me.
The screen makes me have to squint at the brightest it looks really bright.

Well, firstly even while I was buying it I found it hard to justify the price to my self.

Second, judging by the benchmark scores for the CPU, it seemed like a 2-5% loss to last years base 13" rMBP so 'eh' not too bad of an update tbh. Besides the HT speed is pretty much the same so not too bad.

Thirdly, I'm studying data analytics atm and one of my profs said in lecture that modern programming isn't about raw computing power but tis about writing efficient code. While I may have misunderstood him perhaps, I think it will reflect in the laptop as well and most tasks wouldn't require a laptop with an OLED screen that costs like 300£ more.

Lastly, I'm hoping for a longer battery life :p it has a bigger battery and more efficient CPU, can't imagine it being the same 10hrs as the OLED version.

Would love to hear your initial impressions on the battery life as well. cos I still can't believe that it's the same 10 hrs as the OLED version.

Well, I couldn't sleep with my decision last night so today I cancelled my Base Model with an upgraded 512GB SSD and chose this. Unfortunately pushed my pickup date back from November 25th to December 5th but I am thinking these will slowly start to get bumped up.

Anyways....

  • 2.9GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
  • 16GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM
  • Radeon Pro 460 with 4GB VRAM

I unplugged the cable and it said 4 hours left when the battery is 100%. It's stupid because I am only at half brightness.

so a 2015 base MBPr, would have almost the same speed as the non touchbar version 2.0GHz?

Thats pretty much the only reason why im not sold on the non touchbar, just dont want to have a slower computer, my usage is so basic though, max ill do is boot camp !

I like the base space gray, I see everyone and their mom getting the 512 SSD now i'm wondering if I made the right choice....
Me too, switch to 1TB!

I got the silver one from best buy today, I am going to return it once the one with touch bar comes out though.

That actually sounds right. Chrome sucks at energy efficiency on Macs. And it makes things even worse when it doesn't pay attention to whether it's triggering the more power hungry discrete GPU in MacBook Pro's, or the more energy efficient integrated GPU. Maybe they'll update the browser to fix that soon, or maybe they won't. That's why I'm happy using Safari, the best performance and battery life for Mac.

You should download gfxCardStatus (https://gfx.io) to see if this is the case.

That's my configuration after two cancelled orders I made while figuring which made sense. The 512GB is a smart move. I just wish 1TB wasn't so expensive. Maybe on the next update I'll sell mine and upgrade to 1TB. It's already just so much money up front after selling my 2015 MacBook 12". The next update won't be as severe for me.

Got approved with Barclaycard to finance my entire purchase & I made up my mind as well. Wish I made it on time with the 2-3 week cut off tho!

I had to wait a day to order mine too. I had a Barclay card and called them on release day to see if they had any promos for me and they said they did and they put 0% for 18 months on my card but I had to wait 24 hours to order. But it is done and can't wait to get it and I love using their money for 18 months! :)

Ordered a maxed-out 15". I'm 70, this may be the last computer I buy (bought my first one in 1971, a DEC PDP-8I with 4K of memory - one four-millionth the memory of my new rig).

I've been involved with computers, designing and programming them, for over half a century, and I still have a sense of wonder about the progress of this technology. I worked for Steve Jobs for a while at NeXT, then worked at Apple for a few years. At Apple, I had access to the Cray supercomputer they used to simulate new PowerPC designs, and to design injection molds for a Mac chassis. I'd have to dig up the specs on that Cray, but off the top of my head, my $4,299 MacBook Pro is somewhere between 100 and 1000 times as powerful as that multi-million-dollar Cray.

Every day is the future. I love it.
[doublepost=1477720157][/doublepost]Further to my last post:

One reason I ordered a maxed-out configuration is that I currently have a last-generation 15" MacBook Pro with a one TB SSD, and it's almost full. Since the two TB is ridiculously expensive, I thought I might as well go full up on the rest of the options.

Ordered the 15" in Space Grey at launch with :
  • 2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
  • 16GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM
  • Radeon Pro 460 with 4GB VRAM
  • 512GB PCIe-based SSD
I have shipping lengths of 2 to 3 weeks and should arrive between the 17th and 24th of November.

Question, in my order status, it says processing items. This means my order has been accepted right? I'm currently out of the UK and purchased this using my UK debit card. I've been expecting a call or text from my bank to verify that it's actually me but that hasn't happened yet. The amount hasn't been debited from my account either.

They only charge the full amount when your order is ready to ship, I was told by an Apple employee

I ordered a base silver 15" MBP model. For some reason I just love doing development on a larger display. I was debating between a 13" and 15" with 16GB of ram. However, I wanted to keep this machine for at least 3 years or so.

I noticed that in the almost two years I've had my rMB that I've barely used half of the space on it and when I clean up the stuff on it I no longer need. I will have a ton of free space. I'm wondering if I shouldn't change to the space gray model even though I'm a silver person. Both my 9.7" iPad Pro and iPhone are silver. Buying a black device feels wrong to me.

If Apple had created a pitch black model, I would've done that model but space gray is kinda meh... to me right now but I feel like maybe I'd like the difference from the previous MacBooks.
