I was too indecisive, I should have just ordered on day 1. Went with the 2.7 for the 8mb L3 cache, otherwise i would have gone for the 2.6 to save a little battery and heat. Radeon 460 seemed like a must have. 1tb was too expensive of a jump.

Upgrading from a 2011 mba13 1.8

Delivers 29 Nov, 2016 - 06 Dec, 2016
  • 2.7GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
  • 16GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM
  • Radeon Pro 460 with 4GB VRAM
  • 512GB PCIe-based SSD

Finally ordered the MacBook Pro 2016 with touchbar and touch ID :D

Delivers 29 Nov, 2016 - 05 Dec, 2016
  • 2.9GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
  • 16GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM
  • Radeon Pro 460 with 4GB VRAM
  • 256GB PCIe-based SSD

Is anyone else checking their order status hoping that a miracle happens and you see "preparing for shipment", Or am I the only one?

I had my wife order it for me so that I won't obsess over this. Last time I made a purchase I was checking my account 10 times a day. This way I'll be surprised.

Ordered Space Gray, 13" with 512 GB drive. Shipping December 6 - 13.

I really hope we get them sooner than the expected delivery date. Now that I've made peace with the price and specs I am very excited to get my hands on it!

Placed my order just about the moment the store went live. This will be the first Mac I've ever pre-ordered.

2016 MacBook Pro 15" - Space Grey
  • 2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 Processor
  • 16GB 2133MHz Memory
  • 512GB PCIe-based SSD
  • Radeon Pro 460 with 4GB of memory
(BOLD denotes BTO "upgrades")

Had my cursor hovering over the 1TB SSD but the more I thought about it; and reviewed my current storage usage; the more I really thought that it's mostly photos and videos that take that storage up; not apps or the OS. So that $400 is probably better put towards an external TB3 storage solution.

Here my shipping history from 2008 for reference on New BTO's.

Has anyone noticed that Apple's keynote stated 2-3 week shipping times, but the minute the store went live, it stated November 17th as the earliest date. The window is actually 3-4 weeks, so technically, Apple lied about the two week timeframe, or it may ship way earlier than expected.

Your talking shipping vs delivery, two different things. The 17th on the email confirmation is delivery so I expect to things start rolling out in two weeks with order status updates. If you look at my picture right above you can see it comes from China and those are the shipping date I had.

I ordered it in France, through the EDU store (12% off). I'm picking it up at the store, it says 'disponible dec 2' (available december 2nd). So no date-range for me, just 'december 2nd'.

Ordered the following this evening after much deliberation...

2016 MacBook Pro 15"
  • 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 Processor
  • 16GB 2133MHz Memory
  • 1TB PCIe-based SSD
  • Radeon Pro 460 with 4GB of memory
  • Space Grey

I very nearly went with the 2.9GHz CPU upgrade but decided against it to keep the price (just) below £3000 including Applecare. I don't think I'll miss that extra 7% and I've got my iMac 4GHz CPU for anything that would require sustained high CPU loads.

I don't really need the 1TB SSD but it will bring the MBP in line with my iMac which simplifies decisions about what to keep sync'd between machines. Also, in general, larger SSDs are faster.

As others have said, the GPU upgrade seemed like a no-brainer.

Delivery 28th Nov-6th Dec, so, now the waiting begins...

Yep. Mine says "Delivers: Nov 17-25" That's a solid three weeks, to four weeks. Now I ordered right after the keynote but, if it ships right at the two week mark. I could "buy" that it'll take a week to get here from China.

Apple has a tendency to overpromise and underdeliver; in a good way, on shipping times. Both my iPhone 7 and Apple Watch Series 2 arrived ahead of schedule.

Funny, I did essentially the inverse of you. I didn't really think I could do both the CPU upgrade and the SSD upgrade, so I chose CPU. Figuring I could use existing USB 3.0 external storage, or invest in TB3 external storage.

Are you excited for Space Grey? I'm a tiny bit apprehensive; without being able to actually see one (local Apple Stores still don't have them on display). But I do think it'll look good.

Wondering why the 2.7GHz model is not so popular.

I can't wait to hold this machine in my hands. Considering the performance increase is only 5% and it has the same L3 Cache as the 2.9GHz version, I am very fine with my choice for it.
I got the 2.7GHz also, moreso because that's what the upgraded standard configuration (w/ the 512GB SSD) started at. I like having that extra L3 Cache. The Pro 460 upgrade was a no-brainer at the price they were asking, that extra 2GB of VRAM should give it some extra legs a few years down the line.

So depressing. That article about the CPUs is over a year old, and we're getting them in our $2k+ laptops :-(
Your Kaby Lake processors for your $2k laptops are not out yet. Even if they are, the performance delta in the CPU department is probably just like this.

Same here! I check twice a day because I want it to arrive next week. But I am sure it won't happen. And I am travelling on November the 5th so I will have to get it shipped to where I am going! Craziness

Kaby Lake chips aren't out yet; and even so they represent an improvement in efficiency; not performance. So we're not actually sacrificing any horsepower here. We could maybe eek out a bit more battery life if we had them in our laptops though.

Since we're talking about pretty expensive laptops; it's just a little bit of a bump in price in the grand scheme of things; and I guess folks figure, why not? And 5% matters, for sure, for really CPU intense stuff. You won't "feel" it; but rendering things 5% faster can be worth a lot of money to pro consumers.

There is someone in this thread with a week earlier shipping estimate. Business order so that may be the difference.

Yeah, I hope you don't mind me cutting and pasting your spec from above ;)

Unlike a few folks on the forum, I realise that the economics of the UK have changed and the price rises are not all down to Apple. However, £3k is a bit of a psychological limit for me so I had to draw the line. This might end up being the last Intel MBP I buy depending on how the ARM vs Intel battle continues so I was tempted to get the best CPU but the SSD prevailed.

My logic goes a bit like this. I can wait 7% longer for a rare maxed-out CPU bound task to complete but I can never store more than 500GB of data on an onboard 500GB SSD. An external drive is a good option if you tend to use your laptop more as a desktop as many do, but I tend to only charge my MBP on the desktop and then use it elsewhere.

I hope you enjoy your machine when you get it. I'm sure we both will. :)

That makes a lot of sense! For me, when I'm needing access to those big files; I'm at a desk anyway.

I am curious how ARM moves in the future. This is blasphemy in some circles but; a future Mac with Apple custom ARM chips like what they are putting in iPhones and iPads; superpowered? That could be the future of efficiency and performance.
