I don't know why but I feel 13" is a waste of money, you guys waited so long for this laptop and still buying an i5 and a low GPU. If you don't want an expensive one right now then save money and buy it next year with kaby lake processors :3

I really don't get these posts at all .. if this is the case then buying a 13 would've been a "waste" every generation. Next generation 13s aren't going to come with an i7 and dedicated GPU either, and that's fine, and probably a good thing because not everyone wants that and wants to pay for it.

Yup that's true what I mean to say is we should get the best which is available (As expensive laptops are for long term use ) He should have went for 15" now or kaby lake next year. Buying a lower spec laptop now and then changing it next year or so will cost even more then buying the best one now and keeping it and changing it after a few years or whenever you have money

What if they don't need that power? Even if I had the money to spend on the highest specced model, I am avoiding the discrete GPU. Its one of the first parts to fail. I have the Early 2015 Broadwell, 13 inch with integrated graphics and it has served me well. I am not your average Facebook and Email user. I run multiple Windows VM's on it, I have lots of tabs open in Safari and Firefox, iTunes running in the background, preparing content in Word etc. It does the job just fine.

Unless you are filming a major motion picture starring Will Smith or Denzel Washington on location, photographing Lady Gaga or Rihanna, do you really need the high specced model. These are computers are not status symbols. I have seen users with white MacBooks years after they are obsolete and still getting value out of them. At my previous employer, this young lady interning, one day brought a 2003 12 inch PowerBook G4 with Tiger. I was shocked, connected it to wireless network and it did most of what users wanted. The reality is, the minute you buy any of these computers and take it out of the box, its start losing value and start becoming obsolete. Apple I am sure has revisions ready for Kabylake, Cannonlake, Icelake and Tigerlake. We are at a point in computing, where having the latest and greatest does not really matter, even Apple realizes that.

Jony Ive said, they could have always done a speed bump over 2 years ago, but they wanted to offer something worthy of an update that added value. That to be honest is just the Touch bar and Touch ID. You don't need the high end model for Touch bar and Touch ID.

I'm a pro photographer, and I'm pretty excited about the new MBP! The things people are complaining about don't really bother me. I am a little concerned about the new keyboard (I'm upgrading from a 2013 MBA), but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I ordered a maxed out 13".

I ordered the 13" because my needs changed. For college, I got a 15-inch Early 2011 (Apple replaced it with a Late 2011) and it was great for having a larger screen for during classes and when I had downtime on-campus. But now, I have no need for having a larger laptop. I'm currently managing technology in schools and I am sick of carrying around a 15", 5+ pound laptop while I go around to do inventories, check on tickets, etc. Even with my 2011, as soon as I got home I put it in a BookArc and used an external monitor and wireless keyboard/mouse and now that's where it's going to live. Another factor was reliability. My 2011 was replaced entirely because it had a logic board failure (it was a long story because the hard drive failed but my store insisted on replacing the Logic Board and the GPU fried shortly afterwards) and my current one just had it's logic board replaced due to a faulty AMD 6770M. The 6770M is fine for my needs, and the Iris 550 outpaces it and should lend to better reliability.

And next year they should just wait for Coffee Lake, which comes in 2018, by then they should just wait for Cannon Lake which will almost certainly come in 2019.

  • US KEYBOARD
Est delivery: 16-23 November
The US keyboard instead of the standard Dutch keyboard saved me a week shipping time.
Good thing I always get a US keyboard;-)

Now debating if I should buy AppleCare or not..

I ordered the 13" because i don't want a discrete GPU which draws a lot more power which translates to more heat, failure and noise. Currently use the early 2013 13" which features the HD4000 and that already enables me to play D3 at low settings. The Iris 550pro is like a 250% improvement.

The 13" is also a device i carry around all the time - i absolutely welcome that 1 pound weight has been shaved off. I tried the 15" but it's just too bulky and heavy for my taste.

I don't earn money with it. Don't need the 15" for extra screen space.
It's just the highest quality laptop available and it runs macOS natively. No other 13" does it (Air etc doesnt count :))
[doublepost=1477814401][/doublepost]You have 1 year time to buy that. That's what i do after my account has stabled after the initial shock :)

Are dGPU's really that bad? I must have had really good luck with my 15" Retina display MacBook Pros because I can't remember ever having any trouble with them and I taxed the hell out of them.

Hey,

I'm seriously disappointed with this new Macbook Pro. And becoming frustrated, in my opinion, with the slightly narrow minded opinions and statements from some, re: what constitutes 'pro' needs and excuses for lack lustre Apple.
Just because a user requires more RAM and gpu power doesn't mean they are after a 'gaming machine'. And a 'gaming machine' refers to the expected use of a machine. Nothing else imo. Folk are stereo typing.

My day job is as senior technical artist in a company that's won back to back VFX Oscars. I'm no stranger for the need for 'pro power'. My current workstation is a 128GB PC and several times a day I have to flush memory or close something down because Im maxing it.
I've been reading the 'waiting for skylake' thread off and on for around 18 months while holding out for the next MBP to embark on some personal projects.
I've waited for this release for several reasons:-
Ive been enjoying my day job, very busy with it and was in no rush to invest in a newer computer.
I want a laptop that has a proven record that will last. aka build quality. Nothing has come close to MBPs IMO. And I want to keep in the eco system that I've grown up in and invested in.

I realise Apple don't just slap any newest and greatest tech in and throw it down the conveyor belt but there's a harmonious synergy between hardware and software. I expected it wouldn't be cutting edge, top of the spec tree components and I expected to pay a premium as all their computers are. (not this much premium).
For me, they seriously, at this moment in time got the balance of the system VERY wrong.

I want a laptop so I can move around the house to where the wife is in the evening so we still get to spend time together while I tinker.
I understand laptops need to make compromisers over its desktop counterpart but why can't I expect the 'gold standard' in 'pro laptops' at an inflated price to have more ram then 16GB? More powerful gpu options. I wouldn't purchase the top BTO version to do hobby 3D even if it was £1000 cheaper. THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FROM A 'PRO, GOLD STANDARD COMPUTER' in 2016.
If you use your MBP for 2d graphics, web content, programming etc, good for you. Don't think your tasks are the only 'pro' use of a computer. Some tasks just require more RAM and gpu grunt. That's not the programs requiring the memory (for all those calling out 'what application') but rather the data that's been put through it. I don't care what your use is. You buy the configuration that best suits your needs. Thats what configurable options are for. There's a 13inch system if portability is your main concern...
Now I don't expect to be creating and rendering entire new worlds and huge FX sims etc and I certainly don't expect to be rendering sequences. I do however want to do modelling, texturing, scattered geometry and render stills from off the shelf software and venture into low level VR with the ability and speed I would expect a 2k-3k quid laptop to preform at. Baring in mind the top spec MPB is nearer £4k! I expect a pro laptop to do this with today's applications and the applications that will come out for the next couple years. I personally think this computer takes the *&^% on its pricing and spec and already well on its way to passing its shelf life. Never mind in 2-5 years time.
Again, seriously disappointed..

I may wait till the spring event in the hope they release Kaby lake and its reduced the power needs enough they feel like they can put 32GB in. But even then I'm thinking it may just be best to get the XPS or hope Razor put a display in with better gamut...

  • Radeon Pro 460 with 4GB VRAM

My precious... the wait will be tough and long. But I think it's a great upgrade from my heavy (2.2 kg):

Early 2011 15-inch MacBook Pro 2,2 GHz Intel Core i7, 1680x1050 with mod 16GB 1600Mhz DDR3 SDRAM, Samsung 840 Pro SSD, Samsung MT9 2TB (in place of the SuperDrive) and its replaced logic board following the video issues (AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB). Oh, and its battery indicating it should be serviced (but still lasts a good 2h in video playback, and 4h in web surfing).

I ordered the base 13" with touchbar for November 17-25 delivery. Went to the Apple Store today and asked if I could switch delivery to pick it up at the store. They told me there's no option to do that and it would probably be at least a month or so before they'd have an in store pick up option.
Thanks for the info. I was quite confused why I couldn't choose a pickup point. Would have been so much easier. But I mean why is that? Why should it take a month for it to become an option? Still I have chosen it to deliver to my home and still I don't regret anything!

Since they don't even have display models out yet (or the ones that are out are encased in glass :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:) i'd say that they are still in the finishing stage. Perhaps The 13" non touch was easier to make for some reason so they hold the event now and get it out of the door, the touch bar models simply aren't finished yet and everyone has to wait.

Waste of money is to buy a 15" macbook pro and only use all its performance running geekbench...And for me, a mid tier 550 iris pro always running is better than dual graphics with low end hd 530 and so so dgpu450-460. The laptop (portable machine) is going to use intel 530 whenever it can! I really prefer a high end imac + 13"mpb with touch bar. It's the perfect combination. Please don't try to criticize the purchases of people based on your thoughts.
About waiting for KL...do you know that KL won't have iris pro included?? KL is an intermediate absurd platform (only because Intel can't release 10nm processor yet. Skylake to cannonlake...these are the way to go!!

Most ppl who tried it think its better than the old wobble keyboards, also better than the 12' macbook , maby takesome days to get used to it, im not worried at all about the keyboard on my upcoming one
