    Guys,

I was really excited by the release of the new MBPtb, but after researching, and watching YouTube videos, no one has anything positive to say about it. I was wondering if the missing features, added gimmicks, and high cost should make me reconsider a current new rMBP or even a new MBA (to replace my current 2011 MBA).

Is anyone here purchasing the new MBPtb and has anything positive to say about it?

There will be growing pains with the touch bar. That is a sacrifice you need to make being an early adopter (Windows 8 and touch screens went through the same thing and I still don't see that many Modern windows apps that I need). Do you want to use it as it is going through the growing pains? Developers have not had a chance to develop for the touch bar yet. Give it time. Or not. It's your money. I am getting one since I use Apple's own software that already has a nice set of tools for the touch bar.

There are no reviews of the Touchbar MBPs on YouTube. Only previews from the event. And those previews were mostly positive.

So I have to ask. Why are you lying?

Take it easy I'm not hating. I own everything Apple. I'm only looking to read positive information on the new MBP. Maybe, LINK ME, but don't accuse me. You're so busy making assumptions of my post that you don't even see my true intent. I want a MBP w/ TB. Got it! Now process that before you respond.

I think he simply misspoke in his post. There are tons of videos on youtube of people ranting about the the defects of the new MBP's, including the TB, which some call gimmicky. They're not actually hands on reviews though. It's just people ranting about their impressions after having seen the keynote or whatever.

I'm waiting for actual reviews before judging too much. They'll be here soon enough. My own impression is that the TB isn't that important for my own needs. I can think of some convenient shortcuts in using it though, when writing text, switching between tabs etc. Obviously not enough to call it a game changer though. The only other software I could use it for is Logic Pro, which I've already read is going to support the Touch Bar in January (Logic's a Mac product after all). I'm sure it will optimise certain tasks in terms of speed, i.e. I won't have to use the track pad to access certain features when I already have the option to click it on the TB.

I'm not too hopefully that the TB reviews will be radically different from the non-TB reviews. Most of the issues seem to be ones that impact the entire line (price, keyboard, functionality, generationally behind etc).

That bar will have to be absolutely incredible in person to counter that.

Price went up, people moan like f***. Standard fair, anything for youtube views or article clicks.

No one's buying a MBP because of the new touch bar. However, for all the great products Apple has made, I would at least give them the benefit of the doubt that they developed this enough to provide a platform for developers to take advantage of it. I wouldn't jump to conclusions that it's a gimmick until we give it a chance. Of course all the early reviews are negative, no one has it yet. The price is high and they added some bar at the top.

There are reviews by tech sites on YouTube. Mostly they are positive talking about the quality construction, the bright screen and battery life. Most mention the keyboard takes some getting used to and also mention the ports as a neutral.

I am not sure but there is a quality review by Louis Rossmann on youtube. He actually takes it apart and does more than just read some specs.

The base model without the touchbar has a removable ssd, I think the higher models, have soldered in ram and SSD and the battery is glued in. Anyway, Louis has a pretty cool channel and would recommend it to anyone considering purchasing an Apple product.

Louis review is not of the touch bar model. I'd also question the quality. Louis hates Apple and he hates reviews. I would not trust him for an unbiased review, period. His repair videos are good, but his bias is extreme.

My bad, for some reason I read this thread as "no touchbar"

Louis is biased and usually doesn't do reviews but I like this video because he shows you why it sucks. The older MBP out performing it as well as the year old Dell. Not to mention the strange behavior of the Network settings when using that USB 3.1 device.

It's pointless though, he's just bashing it. A review shows good points and bad. This video serves no purpose except to drive hits from haters looking for confirmation bias.

There are plenty of reasonable reviews out there that show the good and the bad.

I looked at a few more reviews. They mostly showed the pretty box, talked about the USB 3.1 ports, the sleek design, new color choices, and the lack of a lit up apple logo. I didn't find any (yet) that spoke about or showed the soldered on RAM, the glued in battery, problems with wifi when using certain USB 3.1 devices, or that ran any bench marks against older models or Windows Laptops. Unless they were comparing Final Cut to Premier Pro.

If I was going to buy something, I would rather know about all the bad things up front.
