Most of the benchmarks are not representative of actual usage. They are mostly large file copies/transfers, extended reads and writes. Actual usage is dominated by small read/writes. That performance may vary greatly what most benchmarks measure.

So they recommend not filling more than 75% of your SSD to get the best performance. Effectively:

256 gb becomes 192 gb - OS (~ 20 gb) = 172 gb free
512 gb becomes 384 gb - OS = 364 gb

Consider if this actual storage space is enough for you.

In Canada the upgrade is an extra $250.

So, $250 for an extra 192 gb amounts to: $1.30/gb
