3000
The guy could seriously retire at this point and be the GOAT of baseball.
Most hits, period if you count Japan
Only player to string 10 consecutive seasons over .300 while hitting more than 200 each season
262 hits one season which is the record
...all this while starting the majors midstream in his baseball career
If he quit today or soon, he would retire at over .300 and I hope he leaves this sport with an over .300 average than trying to achieve 4,000 hits by his late forties but have his BA go way, way down.
On individual season records, this guy is unmatched today and only sees Pete Rose as historical equivalent, and hockey only had Gretzky and basketball only had Jordan or Kareem on this type of outlying statistic. Football has nobody this consistent.
If anybody now or in the future puts five seasons together of over .300 and 200 hits each season, that would still be considered phenomenal. If such a person did this starting at age 27, those five seasons would be considered close to impossible. There's no precedent for doing this ten years in a row.
Anyway, who can make a case against him as GOAT (.314, 3000 hits, and .353/1278 hits in Japan), and besides his batting, he is a great outfielder to boot so he's no one trick pony. My dream would be for him to get into the 3200 club and retire just above .300 at which point just about anybody could make a case for him as GOAT. We are so lucky at this point in baseball history to see such a great, all around player the way some have witnessed Rose (.303 and 4256 hits) a generation earlier and others have witnessed Willie Mays (.302, 3283 hits and 660 home runs) and a full two generations earlier.
