Hopefully they retire his number the way the Yankees did with Munson.
The difference with Munson (going on faulty memory here), was that he achieved some level of greatness for a longer period of time. I'm not saying they shouldn't but it did make sense for the Yankees.

I think the team will want to remember him with some sort of monument or plague. Hopefully they do something to remember him.

Jose Fernandez has died due to a boating accident. What a shocking start of the day. RIP..... :(

My dad read about this as we were driving (I was behind the wheel) to NY for the final regular-season home game for the Mets. While I didn't look forward to the Mets facing him as a competitor, the joy he exhibited while playing and the effort he put into being the best he could be at the game shouldn't go unnoticed. It sounds like he lived a life that was well worth celebrating, he was very family oriented and he had the world in the palm of his hand from a career standpoint. Even worse, he had a child on the way. I DO question WTH he was doing on a boat at 3 AM, and if his start hadn't been moved to Monday from Sunday (allegedly to bring a guy back from the DL but EVERYONE knows it was to try to play spoiler for the Mets) he might not have been on that boat. Mattingly must be absolutely BESIDE himself for having been involved in making that decision.

Yes, I was in the ballpark for the pre-game moment of silence in tribute, and that 17-0 demolition of the Phillies' pitching staff. I joked with my dad that we ended up not missing BP anyway (though they usually don't take BP on Sunday after a Sat. night game anyway) as we had talked about being at the park early enough to catch it - we're about 3 hours away.

Mets back in the playoffs...:)

That game certainly lived up to the hype of a pitcher's duel! Unfortunate that the Mets lost, but MadBum pitched a great game.

I thought for sure that the Cubs would win when Arrieta hit that 3 run homer off of Bumgarner.

Me, too. Especially with how anemic the Giants' offense had been to that point, but they scratched and clawed their way back, and Bumgarner and the bullpen (one fat pitch from Sergio Romo excepted) didn't allow any more damage.

Fighting back from the brink in October is old hat for the Giants.

Conor Gillaspie. Of all people.

Well the red sox's early departure was disappointing, but not totally unexpected, they basically limped into the offseason on a losing streak. I wonder if Big Papi will get the itch to return next spring. So many athletes have trouble hanging up their cleats and given that he had a good year only makes it that more tempting I suppose.

Steroids makes baseball more fun and exciting, whats the big deal.
Is it spring training yet?
Ya because nothing is more fun that watching Roger Clemens go into roid rage and throw at everyone's head.

This will be a great LCS. The Cubs and everyone else. Nationally the networks wanted Cubs Red Sox but Indians Jays should be fun. And tonight's Dodgers Nats game will be entertaining. I really want the Cubs to pull it off this year. They are the best team.

I would love to see the Cubs win it all.
