Then you are mistaken. TO is a Hall of Famer in every sense of the word.
I will not deny that he was one of the most gifted receivers, but his antics off the field, and how he was viewed as a selfish player is what is costing him.

I was very surprised to see Terrell Davis elected to the HOF. Not very impressive numbers and a very short career.

Darrelle Revis charged with four felonies

Looks like his time with the Jets may be over, its immaterial whether he's guilt or innocent in this day and age. Get charged for a crime and you get cut from the team. Given his age, poor performance and high priced contract - the odds are high he'll not be around

His career is likely over at this point. He hasn't been good and will face a lengthy suspension upon signing with a team.

This is the real quandary. IMO, Jimmy G hasn't done enough to be considered a good bet. He has played great in his limited starts like several others in recent memory

I've watched a number of Patriots backups over the years. None of them looked like Garoppolo did in his start against the Dolphins. Yes, it's a very limited sample size, but he really showed me something in that game. Matt Cassell inherited a team that had gone 18-1 the previous year and was a good game manager.

IMO, the top 3 priorities for the Patriots are getting Hightower, Butler, and Bennett under contract. Sheard is gone and I couldn't possibly care less what happens to Blount.

TO belongs in the HoF ahead of Warner every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

T.O. will probably go in, but it may take him a few years. Based on his personality, he did not go in the first year of eligibility and I doubt he will go in on the second year as well.

He has no rings. He has some nice career stats, but he basically has little else to show.

T.O. was also suspended for four games in 2005 and deactivated for the remainder of the season for not what I'd call Hall of Fame behavior. Owens contested the suspension with the NFL arbitrator and lost. He was 32 years old and squandered what is typically one of the few remaining great years in a typical WR's career by his own numbskull behavior.

Jerry Rice's induction in 2010 was a no-brainer (3 rings, 13x Pro Bowl).

Only a handful of wide receivers have been inducted since Jerry.

Let's review:

Cris Carter 2013 (no rings, 8x Pro Bowl)
Andre Reed 2014 (no rings, 7x Pro Bowl)
Tim Brown 2015 (no rings, 9x Pro Bowl, Heisman Trophy)
Marvin Harrison 2016 (1 ring, 8x Pro Bowl)

Terrell Owens?

0 rings
6x Pro Bowl
5x All-Pro first team
3x NFL reception TD leader
Receptions: 1078
Receiving YDs: 15934
Receiving TDs: 153

If you focus on stats, T.O. is closest to Cris Carter and Marvin Harrison. Of course, the latter two have two more Pro Bowl appearances and one of those two has the ring.

In the end, T.O. will get his yellow jacket but he will never have the satisfaction of having played a single down as the defending world champion.

In a few years, T.O. will pretty much fade from the general public's memory, and Joe Consumer will have to use football stats sites, Yahoo Sports, or Wikipedia to recall T.O.'s contributions to the sport. Personally, I think the prestige of the WR corps at the HoF would be slightly diluted with T.O.'s induction.

When I'm dead, someone in a sports bar will ask "Who is Terrell Owens and why is he in the HoF?" and someone else will answer "He caught a bunch of balls for his era." That'll be the end of that discussion and both of the conversants will return to their drinks.

I believe his $6 millions for 2017-8 is guaranteed. Probably a clause that they could get out of paying him.

Your argument is a silly one. You're comparing achievement stats, which aren't good measures because 1) No one receiver wins a Super Bowl and 2) Pro Bowl is a popularity contest. We get it, he's unpopular, but you completely miss the mark with this argument.

From what I've read he does have that guaranteed but they'll save almost 7 million if they cut him (I assume various bonuses and what not).

None of them looked like Garoppolo did in his start against the Dolphins.
The question will they keep him or use him as trade bait?

I think it depends on what's offered. If a team like Cleveland or Chicago gets desperate enough and makes an offer they can't refuse (ie, a pick in the top half of the 1st round), they would probably trade him. Word is, they really like Jacoby Brissett. The whole idea that you shouldn't buy into backup QB's with limited reps is something I agree with, but the draft is thin at that position and we all know it's a QB-centered league. Personally, I hope they keep him, but there's no way they guy is going to agree to continue being a backup for the next 3-4 seasons, and - right now at least - there's no reason to think Brady can't continue playing at a high level for that long.

The Garoppolo and Romo situations will certainly be interesting to watch this offseason, at any rate.

He will be inducted into the HoF but he's just a bunch of stats.

Terrell Owens is not a world champion and will never be. Ever.

I know you see yourself as some sort of uber-NFL expert but the folks who are voting for the HoF seem to be agreeing with me so far, much to your dislike.

Why don't you explain why he already isn't enshrined, mmm?

The HoF vote is conducted by people who have emotions and prejudices. Sorry about that.

T.O. will eventually make it to the HoF. When he puts on that yellow blazer, I'll just be thinking "Looks good but you were never world champion. No one in twenty years will remember you." T.O. will die in obscurity, just like me.

The big story is definitely Jimmy Garoppolo's future with the Patriots. I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't moved, but at least one of the teams with the top three picks is going to go for a quarterback, but I feel like Jimmy G might be better than reaching at 3.

He's a tough one for me. Honestly I wish we could keep him, but considering Brady's health and productivity, it seems trading him makes sense for all parties. He's smart and accurate, he's my favorite of all Brady's backups the last decade. I think he'll be a good starter somewhere.

This is a dumb argument. Marino is not a world champion and will never be. Ever. So what?

The HOF is about stats and stats alone. TO should have been a first ballot HOFer but because the voters are sensitive and TO has largely been a douche, he wasn't put in. When character and likability becomes a requirement for enshrinement, fine, but it's not and his omission is pretty embarrassing for all involved. TO will be remembered as long as football is discussed because he was an elite receiver and will eventually be in the Hall of Fame with the Canton bust to go along with it.

His attitude and relationship with the media literally have nothing to do with his worthiness for Hall of Fame. Or do I need to mention all the bastards and jerks who currently have busts there?

Antionio Brown's contract details - wow. The Steelers opened up their wallet.

From ProfootballTalk

1. Signing bonus: $19 million.
2. 2017 salary: $910,000.
3. 2018 roster bonus: $6 million due on the fifth day of the league year.
4. 2018 salary: $7.875 million.
5. 2019 roster bonus: $2.5 million due on the fifth day of the league year.
6. 2019 salary: $12.625 million.
7. 2020 salary: $11.3 million.
8. 2021 salary: $12.5 million.

I'm not cap expert but I wonder if the Steelers gave themselves some wiggle room to cut him at the beginning of the 2018 (or 19) league year if his performance drops.

The cap numbers generated by the new deal are $4.710 million in 2017, $17.675 million in 2018, $18.925 million in 2019, $15.1 million in 2020, and $15.8 million in 2021. Coupled with prior prorations, Brown’s total cap number for 2017 remains at $13.618 million.

They will certainly franchise Laveon Bell this year, but what will they do next year after giving Brown such a huge contract?

Cap hits:

1. Signing bonus: $19 million.
2. 2017 salary: $910,000. CAP: $13,618,333
3. 2018 roster bonus: $6 million due on the fifth day of the league year.
4. 2018 salary: $7.875 million. CAP: $17,675,000

6. 2019 salary: $12.625 million. CAP: $18,925,000
7. 2020 salary: $11.3 million. CAP: $15,100,000
8. 2021 salary: $12.5 million. CAP: $16,300,000

Seems like a lot on the surface, but with the cap rising to $168m and the potential to re-work that roster bonus to save some cap space, it's not anything absurd. He can also be cut post-June 1st with about $4 million in dead money after this year (unlikely that happens, but). He's being paid like the #1 receiver he is.

Will be interesting to see what Odell Beckham Jr. gets.
