This is one test. Plenty of others get different results. But it wouldn’t be a new Apple product launch without the internet manufacturing “gates” left and right.

Not an accurate comparison. The X was on iOS 11 when it was put through this battery test last year, whereas the XS and XS Max were on iOS 12. It’s iOS 12 that is the problem. My battery life has plummeted since updating my SE to iOS 12.

GSMArena in a web browsing test found the iPhone X to be 9 hours 26 min.

I tend to believe that # from real life usage than almost 11 hours. My X never lasted anywhere near 11 hours

Don't worry they will most likely turn on the "iPhone X worsen battery" feature on iOS 12.0.1 to make it look like you are right.

There I fixed my previews comment :D

My XS max is lasting much longer than my x.

It could be because my nasty old series 0 watch was putting too much load on the x, and my shiny new series 4 is better behaved.

But in the Plus phone days I never worried about battery life. With the X I frequently was below 20 percent at the end of the day. With my Max I haven’t seen it below 50 percent.

Had launch X last year, have launch Xs Max this year and I know its anecdotal, but the Xs lasts quite a bit longer than my X did.

I have been seeing these iPhone battery issues since early days. Initially they don't last long after one week or so somehow the bars will show less usage. I never had battery issues though I am a lower end user of content (video and audio) mostly browsing. This shouldn't be a major concern imo, with 7 NM A12 this should theoretically give more juice..

I’ve seen various battery tests and the new phones seem to be doing well. Just like users have a different phone habits, battery testers have different testing methods. The review I saw yesterday had the Xs and Max outperforming the competition. There’s really a lot of factors here, and a conclusion cannot be made based on one article.
Yes your right but these battery tests were using wifi, Tom's guide is using 4g lte and there seems to be signal and connection problems with the antenna according to official testing and from a significant amount of users.
