The Max lasts longer for me than my 8 Plus based on my usage, which is heavy. I couldn’t care less what a random test says. Real world usage is all that matters.

Each user who upgraded to XS from an X can determine whether they are getting less, same or more battery life and I would not take these reports too seriously. However, it would be unfair to compare it with the Max since it does have a larger battery. If the X outperforms the Max, then it may be an issue that warrants a further check.

Max outperforms the x in my actual use so far, and not by a small margin.

Seriously. These days, who knows if sites are rigging tests just to get clicks.
Another reason I use adblock. I understand the need for ad revenue, but when your whole premise is ingenuine, I refuse to contribute.

Considering how similar the X and Xs are, I honestly think this makes the X a better phone. Battery life is one of the top features for me. I'll take the full hour more battery, slightly slower processor and missing the software camera features for $100 less.

You sure you want to miss out on the camera improvements? https://daringfireball.net/2018/09/the_iphones_xs. Scroll down to the portrait comparison between the X and XS. I was blown away.

I wouldn't form any conclusions yet from one source regarding battery life.

I have the iPhone X and Xs Max and the battery life on the XsM is significantly better than the X in my everyday uses.
At the end of the day I will have 25% left on the X. But on the XsM so far i am left with about 40%.

I have not experienced this myself. I am a power user and my iPhone X would last from 5am to 230-315 every day. My iPhone X’s Max goes to 7pm everyday since I got it on launch.

Ran my 10th Antutu test and coming up with scores of 305k highest, and second highest if 299k on my XS Max/512. WTH is going on?!?!?

My GB4 scores are roughly 4800/10700 on average. Highest single core I got was 4900.

I am getting mixed results of my XS Max so far...

Sticking with my 5S, still getting days out of that thing.

Check this out on your 5s and ipad; hold finger down on spacebar and slide around .this enables the track pad feature on 3D touch phones when typing .Thank me later! !

Usually Apple tends to under promise and over deliver on battery life figures. I wonder if they got a bad unit or there is a bug in iOS 12? Otherwise this doesn't seem to bode well for the direction of the company if their new iPhone is so similar to the previous model that they have to lie about features to get people to upgrade. I traveled both days on the weekend so my iPhone XS was in my wireless charging dock in my car. Yesterday I had it plugged in for a long time so I could resync my Lightroom Catalog. Today I might finally get a better idea of how long the battery life is. I do really like the new HDR features in both stills and video on the XS, as well as the stereo audio recording, but otherwise I haven't really noticed much of a difference in real use—just a bit more polished.

They don't mention in this article how much data is being transferred! Faster phone, faster page loading, rendering, hence faster data consumption and processing. An extreme hypothetical example:

Last years iPhone browsed for 11 hours and downloaded 10gb of data.

This years iPhone XS browsed for 9 hours and downloaded 20gb of data.

We need to know how much work the phones had to do. Downloaded data is not even a big deal. The JavaScript on websites is getting bigger every year and browsers do more (more processing from new APIs and ease of Webpack integration )

My point is there's not enough information here to compare the difference between battery life.

lol whats wrong with the note 9...a 4000mah battery getting beat by a 2658mah one. wow
It's a flawed test to set the brightness to 50% of each phone. The brightness needs to be calibrated to say 200 nits. The Note9 has probably the highest peak brightness (think it's 1000 nits)

They do this with every S model. They cram more and more stuff inside, reduce the battery, and then say this loss is offset by a more efficient processor - but it's always a lie.

As someone who recently bought at XS, I am anxiously waiting for Apple to release a bountiful update that fixes any of these issues.... I can only wait.
On the 12.1 dev build with a Max and it doesn’t seem improved over my X by much. Maybe 30 minutes better so far. No improvement over iOS 12 though it seems. Something I’ve always experienced with new Apple products is that for the first three or four days at least the phone is downloading emails, cleaning up the file system, etc. I’m sure a bunch of other stuff as well but I never base battery life off of the first five days of use typically.
