This makes zero sense. Why exactly is using Touch ID such a "burden" for you? How exactly would holding a giant iPad to your face be magically better? Seriously, Please tell us.

Sounds like someone drinking the coolaid.

Tunnel carpel and the hand position I must be in to get at home button sometimes
Wet / Cold fingers causing failures on touch id
Cheetos on fingers causing failures on touch id
Holding pencil then using touch id not conducive to touch id.
Dirty touch id button causing failures on touch id
Having to clean the touch id button if i just had a bag of potato chips.

and yeah, i would LITERALLY not have to lift a finger a unlock the iPad and apps.

So yeah, at times it is a relative burden to me.

Now do the above for 16 hours over two days. See if this burdens you are not. It will help you make less silly comments like "this makes zero sense" when you have no idea of my workflow on my iPad.

Front facing 3D camera makes little sense outside of facial recognition. A rear mounted 3D camera where you can scan objects while seeing on the display what you are scanning would be much better. Maybe Apple has something outside of animoji poo in mind for the front FaceID camera, but it would appear a much more utilitarian argument could be made for having it on the back.

There is too much news from Ming-Chi Kuo extolling the virtues of the Face ID camera. It almost looks like he is trying to justify Apple's decision to drop TouchID.

I don’t find Touch ID burdensome in the slightest. It’s a technology that’s made my life easier.

Nice Notch! Take a apple downhill! Let the notches come more and screw apple big time. People time to sell apple stock before it becomes Sony!

Unless these are being released fall of 2018 it's not going to happen. Apple is well behind on this system for 1 device.. you really think they'll just jump right in and release iPad's at the beginning of next year with the same system? They are pretty amazing.. but that isn't happening unless they have another manufacturing company helping them out.

As a convert to the 12.9 iPad I really don't see the advantage here unless the 12.9 Pro is going to go mostly bezel-free OLED like the X. It was a necessity for the X because of the screen. It's also useful on the X because most everyone uses their phone as a camera -- who brings a pocket camera anymore? But the 12.9" Pro, who schleps it around like an iPhone when you have an iPhone? And if an occasion did merit towing a better camera wouldn't one want that to be a real DSLR with a quality lens?

Honestly, while the camera on the iPhone is a top consideration it's a minimal one for the iPad. Now a bezel-free iPad in the current 12.9 form factor that would be a feature worth upgrading for -- I think. Lord only knows what Apple would want for it. Probably 1.5X the cost of an iMac Pro.

Just picking up your iPad and swiping to unlock should feel very natural. Anything to eliminate unnecessary buttons or steps is progress. Face ID does just that.

Face ID would be a much more convenient option on laptops and tablets .

Yes, one of the few pleasures I have with my AW is that my Macs automatically unlock when I wake them. The fingerprint sensor on the MBP is great too -- just the fingerprint sensor not the lousy Touch Bar next door.

Can't wait, will be a nice upgrade. Hoping for something just like this.

Look at that! Ma'am you're smokin' hot. Aoooo.

Are they going to be able to supply enough True Depth cameras to be able to do that? I think the priority is getting enough to move it to the entire iPhone line before jumping to iPads and Macs. Probably won't see a face ID enabled iPad until 2019 at the earliest.

Touch ID is great, don’t get me wrong. But I just don’t understand where this misconception that you got to hold the device up to your face have come from? It has a true depth camera, meaning you have to look at it even if you don’t have it close to your face or on odd angle Actually I think Face ID makes much more sense on iPads and Macs then it does on iPhones.

the iPad needs some amount of bezels unless your use case is strictly docked in a keyboard base, or resting on your knee.

The 12" particularly would be a pain to handle without somewhere to stick your thumbs.

Hopefully not like that, the notch is even more frustrating on a larger device. Without reducing the bezels (which makes sense on a tablet), they would be able to fit all TrueDepth camera components in the bezel.

Likewise. I'm going to be holding out with TouchID on my phone for a long while because most of the pain points in my day where I use TouchID are for contactless pay. FaceID would slow down those operations in more cases than TouchID speeds me up. On an iPad however it'll feel more like the gen 1's always-on vibe, which I miss.

Hold it up to your face? I don’t know about you, but I usually look at my iPad when I’m using it. Not sure why I’d need to hold it up... if I’m looking at it and can see it, it can see me.

It is my understanding that on the iPhone X, you unlock the phone with FaceID but once unlocked, you still have to swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the phone.

I don't fancy having to swipe up from the bottom of my iPad to open it. It makes no ergonomic sense.
