2018 iPhone Shipments to Apple This Fall Predicted to Be Highest Since iPhone 6 Lineup

Well, if that's the entire lineup, then they pretty much just ensured that the iPhone 8 will be my last iPhone. The phones are already too damn big and now the "smallest" phone is 30% larger??? I thought the 6s and the 8 were already too big, but they were at least tolerable even though I prefer the size of the 5s or SE. It's a phone, I don't want to carry a tablet around. If the "smallest" size available going forward is bigger than the 8+, which is huge, than I just don't see myself staying with Apple, regardless of how much I like the functionality.

I'm looking forward to having the Xs Plus or whatever... I upgraded to X love the full screen but still miss my 7 Plus.

Now that football season and hockey will be starting soon i want full edge display....

I'm really curious is Apple Watch 4.. I have the series 3 LTE and its awesome, do have to charge every 2 days.. Hope the model doesn't change too much as have a crap load of bands...

When you take into account the amount of users who have held onto the iPhone 6, 6s and 7, Apple will indeed have a super cycle. Lets not forget about those who are likely on a 5s or SE interested in moving to larger model. There are the fanatics who upgrade every year, but they are more likely a niche.

For me, I see this as a 'S' year and I am more interested in next years model, which will probably be the first 5G iPhone.

Honestly not that excited. The 6s was the last time I had any thrill up my leg about an iPhone. But, then I work on a 38" ultrawide screen. Can't do much on a tiny screen - unless it's some time wasting game.

Wasn’t there a report just a month or so ago claiming sales would be low this year due to the tepid response to the X and higher ASP?

Yes they did. I have an X so I am not in market for a new phone as I keep them 2-3 years. That said the other 4 people in my house using iPhones did not really care for the X any more than there current 7's. In fact none of them want to leave the button for Face ID. I imagine some of them will go with a cheaper 8 after price adjustments.

At some point the higher and higher ASP is going to cause a shift and not in Apple's favor. In my house I am the last person with a Mac for this reason. My daughter was shopping for a new laptop for her first year of college and went for a Lenovo Yogo, 16gig, 1TB SSD...etc....etc and saved $1000 over a comparably speced 13inch Macbook Pro. She will have that laptop for 4 years or more and Apple with their higher ASP on Macbooks ($1799 entry point for 8th gen 13inch Macbook Pro) lost a customer, probably for life.

I have a 2017 15inch Macbook Pro but with all the things I do not like about it over my 2013 15inch Macbook Pro (that I sadly sold) and seeing where the 2018's went, this will be my last Mac. I am even considering selling it and making the move to Windows now. Apple for our family will be a iOS only kind of thing, which I honestly think is Apple's goal. That is until they price more and more people out of the iPhone market.

really?
ITs the same form factor of the 6...
Curved edges. only difference is glass back but the style is the exact same.

link me to amazing X sales. Everything I've seen wasn't as good as other phone releases.

hey ive owned the X for almost a year now dont gotta preach to me. Only thing I would change about the phone is a real full screen phone. I dont mind it as much as I thought but the appeal to me is a true full screen phone which is a few years out I'm sure.
www.Sec.gov

ASP of $796 in Q12018, Cook has said the X remains the top selling iPhone in Apple’s lineup since release, $130B in iPhone revenue in the first 3 quarters of F2018, up 16% from $112B in F2017 and an all time record.

These are facts. “Everything you’ve seen” has likely been analyst speculation or literally fake news, which is over half of all Apple news.

There's nothing wrong with the notch. At all. That section of the screen is used for pull down notifications on the left of the notch and control center on the right. The notch also displays wifi, time, etc.. things that screen real estate was previously using. The notch has function. People that hate on it have probably never used the X for more then a week to realize it has function.

If Jony was able to have a full screen iPhone X without the notch, I’m pretty sure he would have chose a notcheless design over the current X any day. Surely, he wouldn’t have intentionally added a notch when he didn’t have to.

I can agree the notch at the current state of technology is the best “compromise,” but it’s a compromise that you don’t have to own and use the iPhone X to realize.

im sure Jony cringes inside every time he sees it being a designer and understanding symmetry. But yes it is a compromise for current tech. Best believe when they can get rid of it they will. Its not a Apple design they want to keep forever like their logo its a stepping stone.

Most since iPhone 6? 70-75 million units?
2015 Q1 - 74.5 million 6
2016 Q1 - 74.8 million 6s
2017 Q1 - 79.3 million 7
2018 Q1 - 77.3 million 8

edit: maybe they meant the number of new model year phones instead of total number of phones.

Gotta admit... chips supplied by a manufacturer that allowed itself to get hit by a major computer virus doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.

Confidence in shipping on time? Apparently the OLED models are on schedule, with a slight delay to the LCD model. My guess is a week or two later at most.

Sigh. You’re assuming every iPhone sold was the one model and you’re also assuming you understand the supply chain.

You’re also assuming this report understands something...which is a stretch like most Apple sales speculation. Get your data from Apple...nowhere else.

They are also making the Qualcomm 865 or whatever the new 7nm processor is called.
That going to have many other options.

JUST. ANNOUNCE. THE. DAMN. EVENT. ALREADY.
Apple can't hear you and doesn't care that you're frustrated. Keep in mind that the in-room audience for the event is tech industry reporters who will make room in their schedule to go even on short notice, and Apple is going to do this in their shiny new on-site auditorium (it was literally custom built for events like this), so they have no need to worry about making reservations somewhere nearby (one of the ways that rumor sites used to predict the event timing). And the earlier they announce the event, the sooner news of such an event has a (small) negative impact on sales of current models (yes, not for us, but for some folks). So, it's both easy and in their best interests to wait until, say, a week before the event to send out the invitations.

I may have missed an important memo - is it now the case that every report issued by anyone is guaranteed to be 100% factual and correct?

don't imagine sales to top a brand new design style. This is basically the 6SSSS
A new form factor might change that.
Look, I know you keep bringing this up in the focus groups, but your "triangle phone" idea just isn't going to work. We're sticking with the rounded rectangular box shape until we get the contact lens version fully debugged.

I really think Apple should release a new version of the iPhone SE. Maybe they’ll finally do it in this following Spring.

There are so many people who don’t want a large phone. Although the iPhone X is a good size.
A new SE for the folks who want a small phone would be good. Unfortunately small phones are now very much the minority. Ever since the 6 Plus came out the large screen models have always outsold the regular size. I'm getting the 5.8" this year as I'm currently on the 6S but larger screens are the norm these days.

Dropping the notch will help also.

The S cycle has always been the best. They refine all the little Problems they find.
I’ve had the 4s to 5s to 6s and haven’t budged.
This year I’m getting iPhone Xs or whatever they want to call it.

I wonder where the pricing of the iPhone 8 will land if this pricing comes to pass. I know several people who want to update their iPhone 6s but don’t want the giant phablets. Now that it’s so close to new release, they’re hoping for the price break of a year old device.

hey, they can bring back the iPhone 4/5 style with sharp corners. I much prefer that style its easier to hold. This style is nice and smooth but slippery as hell. Id prefer a phone you can stand up on its own.

I really hope the 6'1" delay is honestly about backlighting issues. It's going to account for at least 50% of sales IMO Q1-Q4 2018-19. I'd hate to see Apple hold it back to force sales into the higher margin devices. Just can't trust them like I used to. The 6.1" needs to be available ASAP to make a serious US market share grab on Android over the next 12m. :apple:

The X isnt like a first gen product imo. Not one bit
