As long as the control center is still a swipe down from the top right I will have no interest in these full screen devices.

I really can’t handle large phones anymore after having the note 5. I hate how the Android has pushed and influenced the notion that larger is better for current smartphones. I’m afraid that one of the main factors of my next smartphone purchase will be size, which is why I’m currently stickin with the iPhone 7.

However, a big conundrum is that I want the best specs for a smaller sized phone I.e., no gimping (I’m looking at you Apple).

ASP of $796 in Q12018, Cook has said the X remains the top selling iPhone in Apple’s lineup since release, $130B in iPhone revenue in the first 3 quarters of F2018, up 16% from $112B in F2017 and an all time record.

These are facts. “Everything you’ve seen” has likely been analyst speculation or literally fake news, which is over half of all Apple news.
Exactly. And just because it comes from Apple directly doesn't mean it's not fake. I mean Nokia called themself market leader until their fall was absolutely obvious.
Look behind all that marketing slang and you will find that all these terms lack a definition/clarity/detail. "Top selling iPhone" By what? To whom? In comparison to what? ...

Fact is, feedback on the X is not "amazing" and I don't see many people with it. And those that have one, got a good deal on their contract. I don't hear die hard Apple fans praising it. Starting with the iPhone 7 Apple made steps back. They removed things that people liked. Like the headphone jack. Now they remove TouchID for FaceID which in many situations isn't superior to TouchID. It's different, but not necessarily better. Why can't we have both? TouchID on the side or back. In fact, there's no reason to not put it on the back except Apples arrogance to admit that it wouldn't actually be a bad idea.
Anyway... the system is moving slowly. People that bought themselves into the Apple ecosystem are not likely to switch quickly... eventuelly, they will buy an 8 or even the X and go along with it, hoping things get better. These are not the customers that pre order... they are more like "let's wait for good time to upgrade". That's why I would predict the cheapest iPhone released this year, will be the one selling best unless there's a new features in the others we don't know about yet...

Why is there always drama with reports of production issues? It seems the purpose is to create panic to make people rush to buy. So much talk about screen size, and OLED and LCD displays. I'd like to know more about hardware upgrades and please no more about Animojis and Memojis.

A new SE for the folks who want a small phone would be good. Unfortunately small phones are now very much the minority. Ever since the 6 Plus came out the large screen models have always outsold the regular size. I'm getting the 5.8" this year as I'm currently on the 6S but larger screens are the norm these days.

Oh I’m getting the X Plus without a doubt lmao. I love large phones, but there are so many people (especially fitness folks) who would rather run with a smaller / lighter device.

But I mean... If they add some nice new features to Apple Watch then that’s the solution right there.

Actually, that Pretty much is the solution haha.

There hasn’t been the usual excitement this year for new phones.

Anecdotally, everyone I know has already gotten the iPhone X or iPhone 8 Plus and they aren’t looking to upgrade anytime soon.

I seriously doubt this year will be a huge sales year for the iPhone.

Yea right haha those prices haha believe it when I see it.

Though in all seriousness what those prices would tell me is the x didn’t sell as well as they’d like and they can’t justify a £1500/$1500 iPhone X plus model this year.

And you would be dead wrong. We even have an analyst downgrading AAPLE to “sell” because the iPhone X is too popular and will slow the upgrade cycle. Apple prices their products to achieve their margins goal. You can buy them or not. The popularity of the iPhone X proves your assertion is way off base.

Wasn’t there a report just a month or so ago claiming sales would be low this year due to the tepid response to the X and higher ASP?
There are lots of those reports all the time. Fact is that these "low sales" were the highest ever. Some analysts seem to have had the crazy idea that people would stop buying IPhone 8 and switch to the much more expensive iPhone X. Fact is that they all looked at the iPhone X, and two thirds bought an iPhone 8 and the rest iPhone X. All in all, Apple sold more units, for a higher average price.

iOS 11 made the iPhones so slow that everyone has already upgraded to the 8/X.

Yeah but this same analysts are now claiming that as a result of higher than expected iPhone x sales, no one will be interested in the 2018 iPhones. you can’t make this stuff up.
But they do! (Make this stuff up).

If Jony was able to have a full screen iPhone X without the notch, I’m pretty sure he would have chose a notcheless design over the current X any day. Surely, he wouldn’t have intentionally added a notch when he didn’t had to.
He'll wait until every single Android phone has a notch and then remove it from the iPhone X.

Apple knows what the pent-up demand is, because they have upgrade numbers on pretty much everyone. In general, people upgrade every other generation. How many skipped the X? They can just add them to the natural upgrade wave.

Apple's upgrade waves will be getting bigger and bigger until the next non-phone comes along.

Marketing names to replace “Plus”
  • iPhone X-Tra
  • iPhone Xy
  • iPhone XI
Yes I know the ‘X’ is ‘ten’. I also know a significant number of people and non Apple tech sites say ‘Ex’ and not ‘Ten’. The XI would fall into Apple’s naming convention, the others would acknowledge and use terminology that a lot of people know the phone by instead of trying to change their habits or minds about what is just marketing.

The price difference between the smaller OLED and the LCD model better be large, sounds like there's quite a compromise in spec going from one to the other:

SS -> AL
Dual camera -> single camera
OLED -> LCD
High-resolution -> lower resolution than iphone 8 plus
4x4 antenna -> 2x2 antenna
etcetcetc

It's surprising that after all these years, there still isn't much competition to the iPhone. I think Google is best positioned to create a similar experience on the Android side, but it's taking a while to get there. If they do move forward with a new OS, I wonder how well it would be received and if sales would follow.

“Price-friendliness” - um, not at today’s Apple.

Sigh, another price complaint? Apple earns the lions share of mobile phone profits because they charge a lot for their phones and happen to find many consumers who will pay for them. Clearly the phones are NOT overpriced, though coming out with slightly less expensive models – with proportionately less BOM but similar profit margin – is prudent to capture a larger audience. This may be one reason the so called SE2 has been delayed for so long... release that only when a super cycle is on the down to generate a longer tail of profit.

Agreed. Other companies are so close (and sometimes better) in many aspects, but there isn’t a single company that covers all the bases as well as the iPhone right now.

Nope, don't believe those prices. Not as long as Phil Schiller gets his way.

It'll probably be this (starting prices):
$1199 for the 6.5-inch iPhone X S Plus
$999 for the 5.8-inch iPhone X S
$699 for the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone (maybe it will have a $949 256GB model)

Why would Apple adopt an aggressive pricing strategy when the $1000 iPhone X sold so well in 2017-2018? Apple would just be giving up free money.

I am confident Apple will have a monster quarter. My guess is many people held out buying the X (although it still sold very well) due to cost and it being a first generation device.
Yes, those are TWO reasons many people I know held off on getting the X.

A third solid reason was that many were skeptical about the move from TouchID to FaceID. But some months after the X release, the negativity and skepticism against the FaceID seems to have died down. So yes, I agree that many that held back jumping on the 2017 iPhone X bandwagon will now embrace the 2018 Exes.

I already suspected this year was going to be similar to 2014. There’s going to be a frenzy. I will have an 11 Plus on launch either way.

Hurry up, Keynote!

Well, if that's the entire lineup, then they pretty much just ensured that the iPhone 8 will be my last iPhone. The phones are already too damn big and now the "smallest" phone is 30% larger??? I thought the 6s and the 8 were already too big, but they were at least tolerable even though I prefer the size of the 5s or SE. It's a phone, I don't want to carry a tablet around. If the "smallest" size available going forward is bigger than the 8+, which is huge, than I just don't see myself staying with Apple, regardless of how much I like the functionality.

The smallest size would be the iPhone X(s) or whatever they call it. it is barely wider than the iPhone 8. The smallest size will not be bigger than the 8+. And there is rumor that there will be a new SE at some point, probably just won't be announced at the same time as the these new iPhones

don't imagine sales to top a brand new design style. This is basically the 6SSSS
A new form factor might change that.
Dropping the notch will help also.
If you can instantly tell someone is using an X with a quick glance then it’s not the same form factor as the 6...
