Excellent idea. But also, with SSD drives the manufacturer isn't limited to 2.5" or 3.5" space; you could get an awful lot of SSD storage into that case.

LC Retina displays. 4K = £620, 5K = £1,120.
The LG 4K display that Apple is selling is only $700.00. Not as nicely designed as Apple, though.

I really don't see how it impresses, either (Macbook Air).

Apple got boring. Riding the wave on brainwashed customers.

They Don't Dissapoint??

The single biggest problem for ALL Macs is that the internal HD storage is non-replacable. There is simply NO WAY to replace the storage WHEN it fails. This makes these computers disposable appliances, and these prices are simply too expensive for computers which should be easy to repair, but which will need to be thrown out when the storage fails.

Apple claims to be environmentally responsible by recycling, which is great.

Though, this strategy of having non-replacable internal HD, is zero environmentally friendly since it creates disposable computers and a lot of waste. I think it is just an excuse for Apple to overcharge for repairs.

Definitely not a product for me, I'd settle for a Dell XPS 13 that arguably is better specced for the price (yes I know it's no mac but meh)

I just hope the Macbook isn't dead. I love the 12" form factor and it'll be my next computer if it's still around when the time comes for me to buy a new one.

The new MacBook Air is what I expected it to be, a version similar to the MBP Escape edition. Now they’ve screwed up a little bit by keeping the MBP without TouchID.

But they had to cripple it somewhere and it was with this unknown dual core 8th gen i5 which is more Kaby Lake than Coffee Lake. The GPU is unknown as of now but I doubt it is an Iris but I could be wrong.

I predicted Retina display and 2 USB-C and am pleasantly surprised they gave people full TB3. Overall it is a fantastic value at its price and so much better than the aging MBA which is still available for sale at least for the next 6 months.

Not only that, but you'll be stuck with the same overall experience albeit somewhat quicker - don't forget to factor a new monitor into your figures. I'm running a 1Tb 2012 Mac Mini with Thunderbolt display. To upgrade both of these to something that handles 4k isn't going to be worth it for me ($CDN3000+ for the Mini alone!!)...seriously considering an iMac now, even a refurb one.
iMac is a good proposition value. I like the Mini but it's too much $.

It’s not dead. I would expect a refresh next year and then a new redesign in a year or two.

I was incredibly disappointed by the Mini.

While I do understand your points and see them as valid, I was not disappointed. To be honest, this was [almost] exactly what I hoped for. I currently own a 2012 Mac Mini, and I have long - as so many others - been waiting for Apple to do something modern with the Mini. I do some light video editing, motion graphics and coding and the occasional gaming.

The Hades Canyon NUC (NUC8i7HVK) was a big contender as a replacement, perhaps even a Hackintosh, but the price kept me off and also the fact, that it's 'only' a quad-core. I was hoping for something along the same lines from Apple. Perhaps a hex-core with Radeon Vega graphics og Iris Plus. But I digress.

Finally, I can replace my old Mini with this one and keep the GPU from my Windows-desktop and buy a GPU-enclosure. The price isn't that insane (here in Denmark) compared to the DIY route or a full system from another boutique/OEM.

That is ridiculous. You call the $799 "unusable" and then you compare it with a $499 one that doesn't come anywhere near.

You are ridiculous. Every time there was an upgrade, Apple used to keep the same pricing as the old version. Now, not only they are not keeping the same price, they are almost doubling it. Is it our fault that they did not upgrade it for over 4 years? Nope. It supposed to be an entry level computer with an entry level pricing. Not anymore.

Apple pricing has become a joke.

Now Mac mini is excellent. The only downfall is the integrated GPU and a well specced confit will be very expensive. You get quad and hexa CPUs, 4 TB3, HDMI and 2 USB 3.1 type A ports. Great Ethernet as well. With an added eGPU this can be a better machine than an iMac paired with a good quality display of course.

Apple should’ve introduced new TB3 cinema displays to go with these. They are leaving money on the table as usual.

Don't forget to add the external GPU, because the Mini has none built in. I'm waiting for iMac vs Mini with eGPU FinalCut benchmarks.

That's a fair call - for me I don't need the external GPU (the default one would be fine for all my professional purposes) but should consider it into specs / pricing. I too am going to wait as there could be other factors to consider.

The issue that I have is that there isn't an option for a GPU. That would have pushed it more towards the "pro" users running the Adobe tools.

You are supported by Moore’s law - saying typical price/performance in the IT-industry halves every 9 months*
Now in 4 years, that would be more than 1/16...
With approx. quad performance of the 2014 Mini that would be 1/4...

*I am aware that this only refers to CPU and chips, but anyway...”What’s a computer..?”
It’s a product by an industry fighting to survive in saturated markets - or in Apple’s case, pretending so. This actually is a 2016 upgrade - and I know that Intel screwed them but they should have made the transition to their own ARM by then

Quick question. Since the new IPAD now has USB-C. Would it be possible to run it with the new MINI as an external monitor? Thanks

Again, one of the worst events ever.. mb air 2 - who the **** asked for low voltage cpus? Only 2 usbc ports? ****ed keyboard? Hell, if they had took old mb air and slaped full hd ips display on it and bumped cpus, that would be million times better upgrade than this...
And mac mini, what the **** took them 4 years to do simple specs bump and new color? Like what??
Yeah, and price bumps, cause thats what cook is good at...

Old Apple is dead, this is like microsoft in 90s...

Disappointed in the Air (especially that keyboard - I despise it in my MBP) but was pleasantly surprised by the Mini!

This event beyond any others proved that to Tim Cook's Apple - the Mac is on life support until they can get the iPad Pro to replace it (somehow). They look at guys who need Macs as dinosaurs. I don't think they think there is any reason to create a new MacBook Air, other than they were getting bad press for not having one.

So they created a version with a keyboard that is terrible with low voltage processors and a crazy high price. Almost to thumb their noses at Mac users. It is astonishing.

I do like the new Mac Mini though!
