There isn’t any problem with the keyboards, you guys just aren’t pro enough; real pros only use their computer under a laminar flow hood.

Have you not seen the Intel bunny suit commercials? That’s how you’re supposed to use them.

Just came back from Apple Store at Willow Bend Mall in Plano, TX, where on a display table I was able to compare a 15" 2017 model next to a 15" 2018 model. No question: 2018 KB feels better and is quieter. Can't say it's dramatically better than the 2017 feel-wise, but I'm used to a Magic Keyboard II at home and find it a pleasant experience, so perhaps those of you who like to beat the daylights out of deeper-travel KBs should look elsewhere.

As for me, I'm sold. Now just need to figure out my BTO config. :)

That is a good point, I do notice some people's finger dexterity seems impaired and really pound on keys instead of a light touch. I even wonder if some people think the harder they bang, the faster they might be? Maybe these people are the small number of people having problems with keyboards. I actually never thought of it this way until now.

In the past Apple sold base configs and usually a single predetermined higher end config in store. They need to stock some 16GB 13” units and even 32GB 15” units as well as stocking some various storage options. Many people will opt for the 512 and terabyte options and it would be nice to have some of those in store.

aw come on, real pros only use computers where every single component is user-replaceable, and only use windows because they like to spend so much time fixing things. Imagine that is why surface pro is doing badly, everything is glued together, worst in industry, and Windows 10 actually works. Whats the fun then?

Apple should do a redesign next year. iPhone X style bezels, Face ID, 4k screen.

The original 15" Retina started at $2199 with 256GB flash storage, GeForce GT 650M and world's highest-resolution notebook display at that time. And now, here we are, 6 years later with the same amount of base storage and the same resolution display, but $200 more expensive? Pure greed if you ask me.

Pricing is criminal.

Gosh, few years ago my top spec “off-the-shelf” 15” Retina MacBook Pro was just under £2k and now the top spec is £2,700... and still only a 500gb hard drive... I could barely afford it back then, never mind now! :-/

I got the 2014 top spec 15" for uni, cost me £2,000 (£1,700 with student discount). The equivalent now is £2700 (£2530 with the discount). Complete joke. I'm buying the new Mac Mini and building a monster PC rig. Apple has lost all focus on Macs.

$2199 in 2012 = $2305 in 2018. So, an "outrageous" $94 price increase after adjusting for inflation. And TrueTone, Touch ID, Touch Bar, TB 3 . . . .

Man, I am gad I purchased my MBP 2015. I hope to last few more years. I am not impressed with these new MBPs. The dongle festival is not something I really care about. Apple should have a version with the old ports just like they did with the iMacPro.

I have had my 2017 13” mbp for almost a year now. After the year I can no longer get the AppleCare of course. Should I sell this one and get the 2018 or get the AppleCare for my current one?

Your current laptop has an extended keyboard warranty. Other than that, I haven’t heard or read of any other MacBook Pro issues.

$6,700 and still no SD card slot or HDMI... Yeah, it's totally a "pro" product...
The 15” has 4 HDMI ports or 4 DisplayPorts or 4 USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports or...

You’ve got Ethernet (1Gb or 10Gb), FireWire, eSata, Thunderbolt, or any combination of ports YOU need. I don’t want an SD card slot but there is one facility where I need both 1Gbe and 10Gbe active; do you ever need that? The versatility of having 4 of anything, including things that may not be invented yet, really appeals to me. Add in a dock (which I have used since Thunderbolt was introduced in 2011) and I have even more ports.

This is, in my opinion, the single greatest advantage of the MacBook Pro since 2016.

Thing is nobody asked for true tone or touch bar, but you have no option but to get them if you want 45w cpu and dGPU in a macbook. The touchbar is still hilariously under-utilised 2 years after introduction and even Apple themselves never mentioned it since 2016. There is little 3rd party support. The faster components and TB 3 should be accounted for in the natural technological improvements and not considered a "new feature". It also ships with a 3 year old graphics card that at the point of release was already low end.

You're buying a mac mini desktop with state-of-the-art dual core HASWELL ultra low power mobile components? Smart choice.

So since the keyboard is covered would AppleCare be a waste of money?also, Some are saying the 2018
Keyboard feels better but don’t know if it’s worth taking a hit selling my 2017 model for it.

In 6 years, you don't think the price of production (and all that that entails) hasn't changed at all for Apple?

If you were running a business, you would never change your prices, even if it cost you more for parts, taxes etc. or to give employees raises?

How about you show us Apple's cost for the last 6 years and then show us line by line where the greed is.

Hundreds? Really? Of course everyone's needs are different, but I'm doing fine with two USB-C to USB-A 3.1 cables at $9 each. And a USB-C to RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet adapter for $15.
Amazing to spend that much on a laptop and then have the plethora of dongles hanging it out just to make connections to other cords...

Yeah, I’m not seeing any higher config options available in store. I would’ve expected a 13” with 16 GB and either a 512 GB or 1 TB SSD to be available. In 2018, a ~$2k laptop with a non-upgradable 8 GB of RAM is a mistake.

Britain has 13" models available now unless you want 16GB RAM in which case you have to order for pick up on 1st August. Come on Apple, that is lousy. If it is a Pro laptop keep a couple of 16GB models in stock.

Are you talking about the launch of the iMac G3 in 1998 introducing USB to the masses? Sure seems that way.

'Apple Inc.'s iMac was the first mainstream product with USB and the iMac's success popularized USB itself.[12] Following Apple's design decision to remove all legacy ports from the iMac, many PC manufacturers began building legacy-free PCs, which led to the broader PC market using USB as a standard.[13][14][15]'

'The marketing and sales success of the iMac G3 contributed to Apple's turnaround from financial ruin in the late 1990s and revitalized the Apple brand as design-oriented and simple. It was, nevertheless, criticized for abandoning then-current technological standards like the floppy drive and the Apple Desktop Bus connector in favor of the emerging USB standard.'

For those of you coming from a 2016 or 2017 to this post your impressions of the keyboard and differences please.
I bought mine yesterday and I bought the 13" base model and the keyboard is great for me. I had the previous models 2016 and 2017. I had the 15" MacBook Pro 2017 and had trouble with the keyboard and also it marked up my display every time I closed the lid. The new one I have the keyboard is great and quiet. Also the speakers have a much better stronger bass sound. I am glad for this update. Best wishes!

The 15” isn’t available for in store pick up here in the U.K. yet the 13” version is, no idea what’s going on there
