Hahaha, Apple wants to tell me a Radeon RX560X is "modern" (uh, it's basically a 3 yr old GPU with a clock speed tweak) and sell me the machine with it and a mediocre Intel processor that is built on antiquated 14nm processes in it for $6,700.

I'm an all-Apple fan boy and all, but, uh, even I have my limits.

In 6 years, you don't think the price of production (and all that that entails hasn't changed at all for Apple?

If you were running a business, you would never change your prices, even if it cost you more for parts, taxes etc. or to give employees raises.

How about you show us Apple's cost for the last 6 years and then show us line by line where the greed is.
All you have to do is look at Apple’s gross margins which have remained consistent even considering a larger percentage of their revenue is higher margin stuff like services. If Apple really was price gouging people wouldn’t their margins be a lot higher?

Can confirm that 13" are available in the UK as well
The 15” isn’t available for in store pick up here in the U.K. yet the 13” version is, no idea what’s going on there

Yeah, I noticed it as well, it is because the 13" is more popular, hence why it is available

One would think so. At the same time, we don't know their per unit cost on the items involved. In that light, some of their individual margins could be higher, while their overall margin is relatively the same.

I’m still using a 2012 MacBook Pro with Retina display. I don’t need a new machine yet but I’m curious if the 2018 models are better in terms of battery life and the keyboard compared to last year’s model.
I bought mine yesterday and went with the 13" model as for me that was the best one for my use. I have owned the 2016 and the 2017 model and this one is really a great update. The keyboard is much better. Also the sound of the speakers is deeper and louder bass. Battery is still the same as last year. A full day depending on what your doing. A great machine. Wish you best on your decision.

Well I tried to be clever and as a UK resident travelling to US next week I thought I'd order from a US shop and in store pick-up ... the only barrier was that in store pickup requires a valid US 10 digit mobile number, there must be a way around that ?

In the past Apple sold base configs and usually a single predetermined higher end config in store. They need to stock some 16GB 13” units and even 32GB 15” units as well as stocking some various storage options. Many people will opt for the 512 and terabyte options and it would be nice to have some of those in store.

My store has the 16gb/512/2.5gHz in stock, but you must configure from the higher end model even though I believe its identical to the same configs on the lower model.

There are some sketchy-ish looking services like callhippo.

Note: I’m not endorsing this service and have never tried it.

I still have yet to get to a Apple store to have them lookat the speaker that blew out on my 2017 MBP days after I purchased. Wonder if they fixed that problem too?

People has been saying all over the internet that quad core is way ahead of last years dual core. I get that, for sustained load, the CPU obviously is capable to process faster.

But for a regular Joe who uses the machine to surf the web, open a few apps couple of times - will he see any difference in terms of preference? Does the system become snappier? Does the new machine open Safari faster than last year's model when the icon on the dock is clicked on?

Just curious.

Reliable quiet keyboard, MagSafe, SDXC card slot, replaceable storage, no dongles...

This is better, right? One cable that works basically with one computer, because it's not USB-C.

Nice avatar, if I did video production, I would impose Tim cook on Tywin Lannister taking apart a MacBook Pro, dissembling the ssd via screwdriver, and soldering in a new 128 gb ssd deeming the device unupgradable while deep cellos are heard in the background

Good, just got bestbuy to price match with Apple edu price and $150 student offer . Didn’t get beats instead got $150 off

That's AWESOME..I already have the student coupon for 150 bucks off..so you got best buy to price match the price being 1699 instead of 1799? Or you got additionally another 150 off(The beats headphones are a 299 value)

I know it's just anecdotal, but I'm pretty hard on my laptop / keyboard, and I've yet to experience any problems with my 2017 15" MBP. Knock on wood ;)
Exactly, and in my house there are 5 of them from 2016-2017 models.

Good specs. But I still don't feel like spending hundreds on adapters to be able to work on this thing...
WTactualF do you do that you have to get hundreds of dollars on adapters?

Did you do a boot camp windows install? That’s what blew my left speaker. I read some people got it fixed under warranty. Didn’t bring mine in yet But speakers should get replaced when they “fix” your keyboard with top case replacement under extended warranty.

Thanks, the configuration I'm looking at 2.9/32Gb/1Tb + AC I'd save about £500($634) or so ... feels risky tho
Edit: how likely is it that above config would be in stock or would I have to wait/in store pickup again (and have the same phone number problem) even if I order in person at the shop ?

We just bought my daughter the new 13” model today in store. Can anyone confirm it is the same dimensions as the previous model so we can pick a case for her?

Amazing to spend that much on a laptop and then have the plethora of dongles hanging it out just to make connections to other cords...

Plethora of dongles (aka adapters in the adult world) to make connections other cords? Read again. Two USB-C to USB-A 3.1 **CABLES**. Not adapters. Did you ever have to purchase basic cables for your computers?

If you can't afford basic I/O cables at $9 each, you're not going to be able to afford an Apple laptop.

With respect to RJ45 ethernet, how long has it been since Apple offered a female RJ45 ethernet port on a laptop? Certainly not on a 2015 MBP that everyone seems to covet now.
