Finally!!! It was driving me nuts. I will have to update asap.

Belatedly, I did say better, not 'fixed'.. definitely still issues, just less often.

Also I do have an Apple Watch, too. Perhaps will try disabling.

I've disabled the auto-unlock function for one week: no more Wi-Fi issues on my MacBook Pro! Tx Rate with my Netgear R7800 is now consistant. I've also disabled AirDrop and the ability for people to cast some content to my Apple TV even if they aren't connected to my home network. All of this is linked to AWDL, but the auto-unlock with Apple Watch seems to be the cause of the issue.

I've read through this forum and I too am experiencing some wild issues with my 2018 MBP with Touch Bar .

I haven't experienced any issues with my wifi disconnecting but what I have noticed is that my download speeds are so much slower than what they were on previous MacBooks I owned. I bought the 2018 model in July of 2018 and for months I would get very disappointing results on speed tests. I thought it was my ISP or router; not once did I ever suspect that my new MacBook Pro would be the culprit.

As I started researching and trying to find other threads of others maybe having this problem it wasn't until I posted in the Synology community forum about this problem and several others came back with experiences and feedback identical to mine.

I know for a fact there is something flakey with the 2018 models wifi chipset because I took an extreme measure and bought a 2017 model from apple's refurbished store and wouldn't you know it ... using the same router same everything the 2017 MBP's Speedtest results are more than double what I am getting on the 2018 model.

So my question is: some of you seem to think its an incompatibility with the 2018 MBP and routers that are Qualcomm based? ironically most of my routers are Qualcomm based. I own a Synology RT-2600AC, Netgear Nighthawk R7800, Netgear Orbi, and a TP Link Archer C2300......whats weird is that the only router that my 2018 MBP got good speeds on was the AT&T supplied gateway which is an Arris BGW210 which is Broadcom based......all of the others I own including the TP Link which is not supposed to be Qualcomm based I get terrible speeds. The 2017 model, however, gets me near gigabit speeds on the 5ghz band in the same room with the router.

So what do any of you suggest I do to get full speed using my 2018 model? are there any routers that some of you have bought and tried and it gave you full speed? I do not own an Apple Watch so I don't think that is my problem and just in case I tried to disable that feature but that feature isn't available in my settings. I'm currently on the latest Mojave 10.14.4

Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated; otherwise I may end up selling my 2018 MacBook on eBay and taking a loss and keeping the 2017 model. Thanks in advance.

Same issue on my MBA 2019 with Linksys Velop at home and Cisco at work. Very low tx rate while SNR is excellent. Disconnecting and connecting wifi solves it for a while.
I do have an Apple Watch and use it for unlocking. Will turn it of now and see if that solves it.
I have been in contact with apple support for this issue, he said they were waiting for a software update but he doesn't reply to my inquiries any more.

Just another data point--I am really happy I found this thread. After a month of no problem at all, I started having wifi connection problems on my iPhone, 2019 MacBook Pro, and even my Simplisafe camera. On my MacBook Pro wifi would either connect very slowly or not at all. Eventually I could get it to connect, but it was really a challenge.

I tried resetting all the devices, changing my wifi password, and a few other resets. But just disabling my Macbook's "unlock with Apple Watch" fixed it all at once. One additional datapoint--my 2018 iMac still unlocks with my watch with no problem, and, for some reason, never had the wifi connect problem at all.

Turning off unlocking with my Apple Watch, and wifi is much better.

I have also this annoying issue with my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014, Mojave 10.14.3) with Broadcom ac card (Broadcom BCM43xx 1.7.77.61.1 AirPortDriver BrcmNIC-1305.2).
Unlike other users in this thread, I'm not using Qualcomm based router. I'm using Cisco Aironet 3702 access point (Marvell based) which is rock solid with every device excluding my Mac :/

When problem occurs my rates look as follows:

jan@MacBook-Pro ~ $ sh info.sh
agrCtlRSSI: -54
agrExtRSSI: 0
agrCtlNoise: -95
agrExtNoise: 0
state: running
op mode: station
lastTxRate: 27
maxRate: 1300
lastAssocStatus: 0
802.11 auth: open
link auth: wpa2-psk
BSSID: 84:3d:c6:8c:4f:a5
SSID: JAN_5GHz
MCS: 1
channel: 48,80

After wifi disable/enable rates looks like this:
jan@MacBook-Pro ~ $ sh info.sh
agrCtlRSSI: -54
agrExtRSSI: 0
agrCtlNoise: -95
agrExtNoise: 0
state: running
op mode: station
lastTxRate: 1053
maxRate: 1300
lastAssocStatus: 0
802.11 auth: open
link auth: wpa2-psk
BSSID: 84:3d:c6:8c:4f:a5
SSID: JAN_5GHz
MCS: 8
channel: 48,80

I noticed only that, when i set channel width to 20MHz on my router then I'm not seeing rate drops... strange.
I'm not using Apple Watch.

Disappointed that this isn't fixed. Wifi is still slow on my 2018 MBP (I'm using a Synology RT2600ac with firmware SRM 1.2.3 8017). I'll have to find another router that is similar to the Synology, but with a Broadcom chip.

I'd finally dropped my wifi fancy dream.
Hook up Cat 7 with electronics shield back in business.
This my 3th Macbook I've had almost go through all of them.
And what we doing here is just one of issue.

I not gonna lie but if you truly need some speed and stop wasting time on it.
Try a cable.

TO add to this.

I have a 5 node Linksys Velop setup (bridge mode) along with a Thompson Router (AC speeds).

My 2013 iMac connects to the velop at 867mbps speeds.(AC 5Ghz)

My 2017 Macbook Pro will only connect at 144mbps speeds (AC 5Ghz), even if I place it 1cm from any of the nodes.

If I connect the Macbook to the Thompson Router I get 867 mbps AC 5Ghz speeds, even from 20-30 ft away.

I have tried all of the suggested fixes that I have read and just can't get this Macbook to connect to the velop at higher speeds.

I’m having the same exact problem - 2019 MacBook Pro 16 on Catalina.
Slow WiFi speeds after wake/after being on for a while. Low tx rate from Router.
I do have unlock with watch turned on - going to try turning it off and report back.

I’ve reproduced the problem on the Netgear RAX200, RAX120, ASUS AC11000, AX88U, AC86, AC3000, Orbi, Google WiFi, Amplifi Alien.

Yes, 9 different routers. It has been driving me crazy. Qualcomm, Broadcom doesn’t matter. WiFi 5, WiFi 6. Doesn’t matter.

Doesn't bode well for the very latest model Macbook !

So just to add to this.

I just logged into the Velop app on my phone, and did the channel finder scan again.

Straight away I'm now connecting to the velop at 867 Tx (AC 5Ghz), finally !!!!

Very strange how my other machine was connecting fine to it before.

Apple Watch unlock is turned on and working.

At least it's now working for me.

No idea if this is an Apple issue or a Linksys issue.

Well, I don't want to jinx it, but so far so good - normally I would be <300mbps by now but after a night of sleeping and a few wakes throughout the day, wifi speeds are stable and >700mbps. Apple Watch Unlock turned off, Amplifi Alien router.

Going to give it a few more hours then see if I get the same result with the Netgear RAX200.

Interesting thread for sure.

I just installed a bunch of Unifi Nano HD access points throughout my house and was getting great speeds with my devices, but i noticed this same 'speed degradation' as the day went on with my 13" MBP with Touch Bar. Tx/Rx speeds reported by the Unifi controller would drift down and i could only fix it by turning wifi off then back on.

I did three things (all at the same time, not very helpful for testing i know) -- first disabled the apple watch unlocking but i also changed the DTIM setting from 3 to 1 on my wireless network (which seems to mitigate power-saving features on clients) and lastly i disabled power nap on my MBP. One of these things seems to have made a difference, because all day in and out of sleep mode, i am getting 600+ mbps from my MBP.

Prior to this, i would start the day getting 600, and then throughout the day speed tests would drift down to the 100s-200s for seemingly no good reason until i manually turned wifi off then back on. There are no other networks on the channels my APs use, and my APs are not overlapping with each other. Tx/Rx rate reported by the Unifi controller would drop to the 100s-200s. Now they are steadily 900-1300 mbps.

Yeah I'm seeing the same thing. For me it was all about the Apple Watch unlock. Wifi has continue to be stable and fast since disabling.

I've submitted a report to Apple using the Feedback app, I recommend other folks experiencing this do the same. I really miss using Unlock With Apple watch, but not worth destroying my WIFI for!

The good news is that I've found the best modern router - the Netgear RAX200 seems to be the most reliable and fastest for the Mac and iPhone 11 Pro.

oh man what a thread.

this issue has been driving me nuts. literally experiencing the same issue you guys have had. I went through a 2017 15" Macbook Pro in 2018/2019 up to the newest newest 2019 16" MBP as personal machines that all had these exact same weird wifi speed drops and I couldn't explain what was going on. What made it bizarre is that I also previously went through a 13" MBP and currently a 15" MBP for work and those laptops never experienced the same problems my personal macbook did. And wiping clean/reinstalling Mac OS on the personal laptop didn't fix the problem

And similarly to the majority here, I also have the Apple Watch on set to Unlock automatically.
So i'll turn it off and see if it helps and hope this solves these awful wifi problems. If it does i'll 100% put in a bug report

So my update.

TX stayed at 867 for around 4 days, then it dropped for no reason to 400.

As of yesterday it dropped back to 174.

I have logged this on the feedback app.

I'm seeing this behavior from my MBP 16" connected to a netgear nighthawk extender...I get great speed, then I will let the computer sleep and wake it up -- slow as hell. Where it really showed today was copying files from my MBP to a wired server (MacMini) on the network was abysmal until I rebooted the MBP -- then the speed came back. I'll try turning off Apple Watch unlock. Weird.

I'm still seeing the same issue with my MBP 16" as well if AW unlock is enabled. Was hoping 10.15.3 would finally fix this, but no dice. As long as AW unlock is disabled, my wifi speed stays great.

My 13" touchbar MBP from 2018 seems to have stopped exhibiting this behavior after I separated out my 2.4 and 5 ghz networks. I was previously running a combined 2.4 and 5 ghz network on the same SSID.

My APs are Unifi NanoHDs

Wow, very interesting! I currently run a combined 2.4/5ghz SSID, but use MAC filtering to allow only my family's Apple Watches to use 2.4ghz while all other devices join the 5ghz band. I do this primarily because of major neighborhood congestion on 2.4ghz channels, but also because the AW only has 2.4ghz radios.

With the ability to join an SSID directly from an Apple Watch now, having separate 2.4/5ghz SSID's is also now possible. Especially in my case where I'm already keeping a very small subset of devices on 2.4ghz via MAC filtering, I may give this a whirl today as well.

If I do, I will report back my findings too.

**UPDATE**
I separated my 2.4 and 5ghz SSIDs and so far @MBHockey seems to be onto something. Seven hours later now and haven't seen the crap WiFi speeds I was seeing previously when unlock with AW was enabled!

**UPDATE 2**
Well, nice while it lasted.... I just had my MBP unlock with my AW and noticed (using WiFi Signal.app, which I highly recommend) that my TX dropped immediately to 14 Mbps. It did climb back up into the hundreds of Mbps for a short time, but never got back to the 1100Mbps+ that I typically see with the unlock with AW disabled. So, back to disabling the unlock with AW setting for me. :( @MBHockey--is yours still working at full speed?

Having the same issue on my 2017 Touchbar MBPro. It started for me when I upgraded to Mojave (I left the upgrade literally right up to the last moment ... and now I am kicking myself). Has happened on 3 different routers at home (Fritzbox 7490, Netgear Nighthawk 7000p, & Netcomm NF18ACV), but doesn't happen at all at work (not entirely sure of the routers used there). Unfortunately I don't have an Apple Watch so I can't blame the unlock...but have tried all the other suggestions here.
