Qualifying will be interesting with seven mid-field cars facing grid penalties for engine-related reasons.
Toto Wolff said:“The results we have achieved together with Valtteri are no coincidence: he has been an integral part of our championship success in the past two seasons, his teamwork with Lewis has been exemplary and he has shown real strength of character in how he has responded to setbacks.”
Bottas to stay at Mercedes for 2020 season.
Ocon replacing Hulkenburg at Renault.
Ferrari aside, the Constructors Championship is what matters to the factory teams so keeping Bottas makes sense as he's a known quantity who can reliably score points to secure the CC for Mercedes every year.
Shows how competitive seats are in Formula One - not worth being part of a factory driver program if you don't get a drive.
Now where does the Hulk go? I'm hoping Haas to replace RoGro - and Guenther seemed a bit cagey talking to Sky during FP1 this morning.
Ferrari's looking strong so far. Also looks like Racing Point has done some nice work over the summer. Perez is flying
Agreed. Should be a good race. Ferrari seems to keep the speed in the corners as well. Looks like some very productive aero work during the break. Albon spent all of P2 working on his race setup as he is starting from the back anyway. I have a feeling he will be moving up quickly with the new Honda engine in his RB15.
It's Leclerc's race to lose IMO.![]()
Ferrari just smoked everyone, but obviously Mercedes haven’t hit party mode yet.
Are they going to risk using it considering Kubica's (and Sainz's) spectacular flaming MB engine failure(s)?
Q1 Red Flag was good for MB to get Lewis' car fixed.
I've never seen that much damage to a modern F2 car. It looks like the monocoque split in half. Just sickening. Safety has improved so much that it feels almost impossible for drivers to die today.
As an engineer you would know that just because the vehicle (or what's left of it) stops, the body itself doesn't stop. Blunt force trauma is likely the cause. Your insides slam into your muscle walls after you come to a dead stop, and at those speeds and G-Forces, you're... for lack of a nicer description, quite ****ed.The engine is designed to split away from the monocoque under the air box in big impacts but that one was huge. The survival cell was intact but the g forces must have been enormous.
The crash reminds me of something you'd witness in the 80s and 90s. Not later. The halo has been credit for saving a few lives already, especially the young LeClerc. This is just a freak incident. You could use aerospace tubing around the monocoque, but death is inevitable sometimes.Terrible news. So sad, so young.
Used to happen quite a lot, but these days safety has improved massively.
My thoughts are with his family.
Yep, redistributed kinetic forces travel from the main structure and usually through the driver. Motorsport is dangerous and it’s the risk that makes it exciting. However this sort of outcome is always a bitter blow.As an engineer you would know that just because the vehicle (or what's left of it) stops, the body itself doesn't stop. Delighted for Charles. He really deserves that win having come so close twice before. i am a Lewis fan and was backing him to pass on the last lap but I am happy the race was stopped and he did not get the chance. Lewis walks away from this in a stronger position for the championship. i think we should expect to see more wins from Charles.Nice opening hour on the broadcast hearing everyone speak about Anthoine.
A lot of people pulling for Charles in this one to get his first win and pay tribute, turn one coming shortly!
