I am a doctor (anesthesiologist). I use my phone at work (operating room and rescue helicopter) to look stuff up and make calculations in a hurry. Sometimes even to communicate with colleagues (obviously not on the helo).
I don't need my phone to be exciting. I need it to be practical (hence my desire for USB-C, so I don't have to carry different cables) and I need it to work the same in every condition.
You can imagine how well FaceID works while wearing a surgical mask or a helmet with sunglasses and an aviation microphone across my face.
I had an X for two weeks, sent it back and got an 8 Plus instead. It does the exact same things and it even allows me to see the battery percentage, which the notch forcefully hides (another lost feature which I use a lot).
Particular use case? Yes. But that's me. This is my opinion and my needs. I don't welcome the loss of TouchID and the replacement of it with FaceID. Neither are perfect technologies, but at the end of the day I still respect Apple for not dropping the 8 from the lineup so we can at least choose between the two.
Innovation for the sake of innovation is no good to me. Innovation must add functionality and possibilities, not shrinking bezels.
