Changing the "iPhone" to "Apple Phone" would be a huge blunder. It reminds me of when WWF turned to WWE and half their viewership just DROPPED right off.
That’s completely different- The World Wildlife Fund had the rights to “WWF” long before the wrestling company. They finally wanted it and took it to court to force Vince McMahon to change his company name. He had no choice but to change. Apple doesn’t.

The camera upgrade better be good.

Sounds like a really boring / dull upgrade this time around, especially for them to start using iphone ‘pro’.

Usb-c would have helped but for some reason they want to keep it till next year...

Boring upgrade? You mean just like last year as well. I’m not saying Apple is doomed but their phones have been struggling lately.

My immediate reaction to reading your post was thinking that Apple Pad sounds rather like a tampon.*

*Which is a normal, daily thing, obviously, but as such it is decidedly prosaic and un-techy.

Actually, I was thinking the iPad is more of a Tablet. EX: Apple Tablet. Although one could draw similarities to the “Magic Trackpad” I suppose. However Apple does not preference it as “Apple Trackpad.”

Makes as much sense as the iPad Air 3 being called just the iPad Air. Business as usual with the “It no longer seems to just work like it did for me in 2005-2012” today’s Apple.

Unfortunately, you’re underestimating today’s unfortunate need to constantly tinker with a good thing. If Kleenex were invented 10 years ago, it would be called something else by now.

These 3 year iphone cycles are lame.

Are Samsung galaxy designs new every year? I dont keep up.
Ever since the Galaxy S6, Samsung has been on a 2-year cycle of design. And there's even smaller and smaller difference after that (S9 to S10 is just Samsung adding a "notch" in form of a hole).

Wonder if we're getting closer to a new naming convention.
Apple Watch
Apple Card
Apple Pay
Apple TV
Apple TV Plus
Apple Store
Apple Music
Apple Phone
Apple Pad/Tablet

it would basically force everyone to think and say the Apple brand every single time.
I mean, it basically already is that, the iPhone and iPad are the lone holdouts from the "i" era (with iTunes getting retired). I get that because it's so iconic, but I think it's time for Apple Phone and Apple Pad (you'll get used to it).

I even wonder if it's not time to call it something other than "phone" though. It sounds so pedestrian and really undersells the fully-functional handheld computer that it is. "Phone" probably doesn't even make the list of the top 5 things I use it for. Apple Slab? Apple Brick? Maybe not. Since it's pretty much all screen, maybe something like Apple View? I dunno, but "phone" is sounding less and less relevant with each passing year.

Please tell me who’s “solved the issue” and managed to cram a whole series of sensors without a notch or large bezel on top.

Xiaomi has a retractable front facing camera, which eliminates the notch. But they don't have to deal with the same number of sensors. Android manufacturers have pretty much punted on a legitimate Face ID clone, probably for cost reasons.

I have an iPhone 7 and I love the size of it. The only reason for me to get an XS is for the Dual SIM capability - so I can keep my US and European numbers active at the same time. Hard to justify $999 for that though. :(

Oh, there's plenty they could do that'd be worse than changing the name, you're not trying hard enough:
  1. Replace battery with a tiny rat on a wheel, and you have to take care of the rat.
  2. Switch to a physical keyboard, taking up one third of the front of the phone (and it's a Dvorak keyboard).
  3. Replace Apple logo with swastika.
  4. Foldable screen (with recent failed tech, not something from the future).
  5. Move current notch to the middle of the screen.
  6. Camera lens now sticks one inch out of the back of the phone.
  7. Switch phone casing from aluminum to adobe bricks.
  8. Switch display from OLED to nixie tubes.
  9. Replace iOS 13 with Windows 2.11.
  10. Equip phone with Tourette syndrome simulator you can't shut off, it yells things randomly.
  11. Phone now comes with one of six different bad smells that won't go away.
  12. Non-removable spikes all over the outside of the phone.
There's all sorts of mistakes they could make that would be a lot worse than changing the name. Thankfully they're likely to avoid most of these. Although I don't see them changing the names of the iPhone/iPad either (the other names are fair game).

This is hilarious. Thank you for making me laugh.

I'd give this a 0% chance. iPhone isn't just a strong brand, it's probably the most recognizable and successful product ever. From a sales & marketing perspective, this would be the biggest mistake Apple could make in just about anything they do.

I think it could happen. Apple may think the "iPhone" name is now an iconic metaphor sort of like Xerox became a catch all phrase for "I'm going to make a Xerox copy". Who knows.

Changing the "iPhone" to "Apple Phone" would be a huge blunder. It reminds me of when WWF turned to WWE and half their viewership just DROPPED right off.

They didn't own the WWF trademark so they had to change their name for legal reasons. And the viewing figures dropped as it's a pathetic pantomime joke. You have to really question why grown adults were watching a load of badly scripted 'plots' and men grappling in the first place.

Ok, so no name on the back, no USB-C.

But don't worry, you'll still get the notch!

You do know that the notch is top notch technology right ? You can always use the older boring phones with huge bezels and see If that feels like innovation
