So then it has to be cheaper, right?
Just because of a name? Doubt it
Car model names are equally confusing and yet consumers figure them out. This is 2019 not 2010. I’ll give some credit to Apple consumers they can understand the price/value equation.Apple's phone naming scheme is really confusing right now. Especially to average consumers. 9 years ago there was just the iPhone 4. Then they sold the older model for a cheaper price. No weird name like iPhone 4R.
Nothing makes sense anymore, I think it's time for Phil to go as well. The marketing department made a mess of almost every product category, only the names of the services make sense nowadays. Now they want to get rid of the 'iPhone' brand as well? What about this year's naming scheme? iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Crazy. What's next? Rebranding of the iMac?
Same. Something like "Mac Studio" maybe? Since that's mostly what the iMac is used for anyway. And then the iMac Pro being renamed to "Mac Studio Pro"IMac? Most macs don’t have an i-prefix and i can easily see them ditching it.
They got rid of "iBook" because it didn't have Mac in the name. That's not a problem with iMac. So dropping the "i" from iMac doesn't improve brand recognition. After all, they don't have the iBook anymore, so why keep the other 20 year-old naming convention?
You do know that the notch is top notch technology right ? You can always use the older boring phones with huge bezels and see If that feels like innovation
The xs is now just a blank slab, how is that the most recognisable product ever, compare to a classic VW beetle, not even close... or concorde or many other classic products...I'd give this a 0% chance. iPhone isn't just a strong brand, it's probably the most recognizable and successful product ever. From a sales & marketing perspective, this would be the biggest mistake Apple could make in just about anything they do.
I was talking more in terms of brand consistency than recognition. I don't think Apple really has that problem any more, even with their newer products and services. So feel like now they'll be focused more on uniformity. They got rid of "iBook" because it didn't have Mac in the name. That's not a problem with iMac. So dropping the "i" from iMac doesn't improve brand recognition.
As iconic as the name iPhone is, Apple has definitely moved away from the ‘i’ in their naming convention so changing to Apple Phone is probably a good bet. I don’t know if it will happen this year, maybe more likely next year with the redesigned iP...I mean Apple Phone 12 Pro (or maybe just Apple Phone Pro 2020 edition).Wonder if we're getting closer to a new naming convention.

it would basically force everyone to think and say the Apple brand every single time.
Ever since the Galaxy S6, Samsung has been on a 2-year cycle of design. And there's even smaller and smaller difference after that (S9 to S10 is just Samsung adding a "notch" in form of a hole).
At the face of it (notch aside), the xs then, imo, is no different than many android phones...just a blank slab. The xs is now just a blank slab, how is that the most recognisable product ever, compare to a classic VW beetle, not even close... or concorde or many other classic products...
No one was even talking about android phones, the point was the iPhone was one of the most recognisable products ever.. which it now clearly isn't..At the face of it (notch aside), the xs then, imo, is no different than many android phones...just a blank slab.
Oh yes. I agree the iphone with the home button stood out and had a classic look to it. But now it doesn't stand out in a sea of phones, unless the screen is on.No one was even talking about android phones, the point was the iPhone was one of the most recognisable products ever.. which it now clearly isn't..
Yep - so all the more reason not to repeat it this year![]()
You had a new phone at 2 years of age? Wow, that's impressive.....I agree with you. I can’t believe I’ll be keeping my phone for a 4th year. I was never a new every year guy but definitely a new every two my entire life until now.
