It's only superior in terms of security. It is far less reliable, sometimes slower, and doesn't work at all in some situations. Not a day goes by where I can't open multiple apps or autofill passwords. That sort of thing rarely, if ever, occurs with TouchID.
Touch ID requires an extra step. Face ID works seamlessly for me while inputting passwords and making payments. That’s a key issue for me.

These rumors have mixed up so much. Apple doesn't return to Touch ID after saying Face ID is thousands times more secure.

FaceID does produce fewer false positives (works when it shouldn't) than TouchID, however that is misleading because who the heck knows who their fingerprint doppelgänger is!? Whereas it is much easier to recognize who a face doppelgänger is or could be (twins, siblings etc.). My false negative (doesn't work when it should) rate is MUCH MUCH higher with FaceID than it was/is with TouchID. TouchID worked for my 99% of the time when my hands are dry. I'm lucky if FaceID works 75% of the time for me (and a much lower rate on my iPad Pro 11 since it constantly claims the camera is being blocked - sometimes it is but sometimes it isn't.).

Hopefully they will offer both FaceID and TouchID that you could chose one or the other (people can chose what works best for them) or even BOTH to be successfully for even another layer of security if people want it.

This doesn’t look terrible.

A smaller, flatter, rounded square unit for the camera looks ok.

Funny, I went back to Touch ID on my iPad and wow it is BETTER than face ID. Face ID constantly fails for me (and yes I have setup two profiles). If I am in the sun and my face is squinting it fails, it fails at times with my sunglasses, it fails all the time while laying down, it fails if I dont hold the iphone at about the same distance from my face. It fails so much that I keep my passcode as 4 digits because I am constantly entering it.

Whereas, when I went back to Touch ID, I was surprised how Touch ID in the iPad works all the time and is far more reliable in terms of working. It never fails whether I am in the sun, looking down, laying down, hair over my eyes, etc.

The big difference is to get Face ID to work I have to think about how I am holding the iPhone and my facial expression. Touch ID I don't think about being in the "sweet spot" for it to work.

Face ID is a great idea, but it is not as consistent in authenticating as Touch ID is for me...
Also, keep in mind that this is the third generation of Touch ID vs. 1st generation of Face ID. If you compare reliability of the 1st gen Touch ID, Face ID blows it out of the water.

I really hope this iPhone SE 2 only borrows the internals of the iPhone 8, but not its size. I wish Apple were more aware that some people want smaller phones.
That said, putting the internals of a phone that'll be 3 years old in 2020 is a cheap attitude Apple.

It works for different people.
I am the counter example. The Touch ID was what sold me on the 5s originally. But my sweaty fingers are constantly making it useless.
On the other hand, Face ID have yet to fail to recognize my face no matter what kind of lighting, eyewear, or headgear I have.

If there is another iPhone SE it should be “small edition” and not the cheap-out version. In other words, a modern iPhone designed to be smaller. If Apple would just make an iPhone that fits the physical size of the current SE but with the X style treatment I would buy it immediately.

I hope that’s what Apple does. It fits with the iPhone 8 rumor, in that shrinking the phone down to fit the iPhone 8 display size would achieve an SE-sized phone with iPhone 8 internals.

We don't want a damn iPhone 8 SE! We want a small phone!!!!!

Hopefully if this rumor is true that’s what it means, shrinking the case down to the screen dimensions of the 8.

Sadly I don’t have confidence this is what Apple will do. But they also won’t likely call it an SE either. So we’ll never know.

Do these people really believe that Apple will walk back on Face ID? After going with it on the iPads, the company has given more than enough evidence that it is fully invested in it. Never mind the fact that once you use Face ID you realize how much superior it is to Touch ID.

But how do You get a full screen is the question?!

Count me in. I would get in line for that.

You should get your phone checked. I don’t have the issues you’re talking about. I doubt my phone has a bug that makes it work better than it’s supposed to.

Me, neither. But definitely clean the notch once in a while! Naturally greasy skin and fingers certainly don't help.

Reading more and more about 5G I would really love it go away. The IMF will be crazy and antennas everywhere.
When will people start value health over small things like "faster" internet.

Ive had the same experience. Especially working on cars and just getting hands dirty and cuts all the time. iPhone X has been great with recognizing my face. My wife on the other hand, must change her face daily, because she claims hers doesn't work that well. (did swap out her first phone for faulty face ID which I didn't believe her for the longest time).

Lack of 3D Touch is a deal breaker for me as I use it ALL the time EVERY DAY. That would completely change my user experience, which is a terrible idea. Even if the majority of their users don’t use it (because they don’t really know how to or are unaware that it’s there). Haptic Touch is trash compared to 3D Touch. Guess I’ll be getting a XS for the next couple years after all... smdh
