Ironically, after my prolific posting in this thread over recent days, I felt instant buyers remorse on opening up yesterday evening. The new 13" MBP doesn't cost much more than my i5 / 16 / 512 MBA, so quite sadly, I've initiated a return to Apple. Just for me, I'm in a position to trade off the extra 200g or so in exchange for the extra power.

For anyone still waiting for their Air, the MBA is a beautiful machine. The keyboard is way improved over the butterfly, the speakers are very good, the display is wonderful, and general system performance is snappy. Secretly I think I'm going to prefer the lack of touch bar on the MBA too. :)

You aren't the only one doing this. I am going to keep my air - i'm not a power user at all (also mine is gold!). I noted that upgrading the ram on the new MBP's is not that pricy. Whereas it is on the Air. I think it could be because the ram on the air is a faster version. I am unsure what differences these make.

A lot of people have been discussing the heating issue - i feel this is overblown. What were your thoughts?

Finally my MBA (i7, 16GB, 256GB) arrived with DHL 😊

For everyone still waiting and interested:

I was almost sickened yesterday when i heard that Apple had announced the new 13” MBP. But be careful initiating a return too soon. Read some of the fine print on the new 13” models. The base models (1299, 1499) still use the 8th gen procs, which means slower RAM than the MBA as well. Only the 1799 & 1999 configs come with the 10th gen procs and faster RAM. After my configuration of a 13” MBP, my config was $600 higher than my MBA config. I think I’m sticking with the MBA. Ours is mostly used for general computing because I have a 2019 27” iMac for stuff i need more power for. I’m still quite happy with my purchase.

In general use - overblown, yes, it's a silent machine for general navigation and tasks.

In specific scenarios - I get it. I did see some slowdown when watching a few 1080p 60fps clips I'd shot, ones where on an actively cooled machine the CPU would remain on full pelt, but on the Air it throttled down and caused some annoying frame drops. Also if you're a Chrome user, it's pretty poorly optimised and was much more CPU hungry. Safari all the way on the Air.

Yeah, I totally get this. Having specced up my Air to i5 / 16 / 512, the similarly specced 10th gen i5 / 16 / 512 is around 20% more. Like you say, you have to jump up the MBP scale to get the 10th gen machine with faster RAM. Certainly not an upgrade for everyone.

The Air's a great machine, but in my use case - I am replacing a 2016 Macbook which I can retain for lightweight travelling - the new Pro is worth the jump for me.

Currently in Kentucky. Scheduled for delivery next Monday, 5/11/2020....I'm guessing it will come earlier than that to Virginia, unless they sit on it.

I think a lot of people haven't recognized that the Air has faster RAM and they're just looking at the number. I'm not sure how this will effect real world performance but it is why the RAM upgrade is more expensive (I would think!).

I'm happy with the configuration I've gone with and hopefully I'll keep for sometime. Hope others here do as well1

I briefly looked at the new Pro, I'm surprised they kept around the lower spec MBP. I'll have to see how the Air holds up for me, but I expect it'll be fine. I want a machine that's faster than my 2015 i7 Air, but I don't need a ton more power. I don't want the Touch Bar(I use the function keys as part of my workflow). And I like the taper design for typing. So the extra cost isn't really worth it.

If the Air was stuck with a dual core, the new Pro would be the way to go. They are much closer in performance now than the 2019 versions.

The Air also got a price drop, the MBPs didn't.

Ordered i7/16/512 SG for delivery to FL US April 22nd.
Delivery quoted April 30 - May 7.
Yet to see the pending charge.

Read through the last few thread pages and looks like i7 aren't doing so well on the delivery window. Will update when I see the pending charge.

Order finally moved to preparing for shipment and the pending charge hit my card. Not sure it'll make it here by May 7th, but at least it's progressing.

Still in Kentucky as of yesterday. Still shows Monday 5/11/2020 delivery date. Hopefully they will put it on a truck today. Virginia isn't that far from Kentucky.

Where is it shipping to? I order same config on 3/29 and received today in Canada
Hello, would you be able to post the travel history of your MBA? I am also awaiting for it in Canada and it left South Korea recently and estimated shipping from UPS was 12th May.

Got some update today - instead of 11.05 my MBA will be delivered on 7.05 😃 woohoo!

And it was delivered even quicker than that - today! Beautiful surprise.
Ordered on 19.04. i5/8/256

And it shipped! Oddly coming from Pennsylvania, not China, and scheduled for delivery tomorrow.

After giving Windows and the Surface Pro a chance I have given up and ordered a MBA I5 that will be attached to a 27" 2011 iMac. The Surface Pro is nice, but overheating, Blue Screen of death, BT not connecting, etc etc was too much. I ready to come back to Apple. Ordered yesterday Space Gray, can't wait!

My MBA is being shipped to the UK via DHL.
The status has been stuck on “shipping information received”, for days now. Does that mean it’s still at Apple? Or does it show this until it arrives in Amsterdam? As this is showing as the origin, not China.

I think aagnese’s screen shot might give you the best answer. The UPS ones seem to provide tracking the whole way whereas the DHL ones provide it from Amsterdam onwards.

SG i5/16/512
Ordered April 17th
Est Delivery dates were May 4th-May 10th

It ended up shipping out May 1st but got stuck in customs for what felt like a lifetime; enough that they pushed my delivery date to May 11th. After bumming for a day I checked status and it cleared and made it to the states (Chicago here). It’s finally out for delivery today so the wait is finally over!

...I missed the FedEx delivery... while I was at home. Boh. I had a window of time to do a video meeting and thought I heard a noise...

Oh well, the original delivery was for the 8th anyways.
