Lewis may have finished ahead of Max but no points were taken today by either. I doubt Lewis is elated and it would have been nice to see him fighting for the win.
If you're a Lewis fan, yes.

Personally, I'm not.

That said, I don't dislike him (how could I I've never met him) I'm just tired of seeing him win... or never have any kind of mechanical or technical issue.

Before the final restart the commentators were talking about how much his brakes were smoking. Turns out it was probably his fault, right? Brilliant.

Great result for VET and GAS.

Congrats to Checo. If not for Lewis' suddenly human error he'd have surely finished 2nd.

Wanting someone else to win and being pleased is one thing, but getting enjoyment from someone's misfortune is another.

So much hate for Lewis and joy when things goes wrong for him. I take satisfaction in knowing it must really eat them up inside having to watch so much dominance over the last few years.
It did!

Again, he seems like a decent sort. His personality and what not don't bother me. I just get tired of any one driver winning all the time.

Damon Hill is the only driver that I've rooted for that had a good shout of winning consistently and that was only for what, 4 years total? And even then 1996 was the only true year of dominance for him and he actually had to fight off Villeneuve all season.

Don't get me started the Schumi/Ferrari era...

Oh lord...

I'm sure Lewis will be fine.

HAM fans take his failures, which are far too few IMHO, way too personally.

If you truly enjoy the sport you should be glad he didn't score any points.

I get it though. You want your guy to win.

You keep rooting for him but also try rooting for another driver who doesn't score points very often much less come within a whiff of winning or even landing on the podium. Then maybe you'll understand.

To bad my boy Jarno Trulli isn't racing anymore there's a character builder for ya...

Again absolutely normal and to be expected occurrences at a sport event. Every participant will have fans, and some of the opposite.

From what he said it was his fault. I suppose I enjoy more about the sport than just the drivers. Sure I’ve supported Lewis throughout his F1 career and follow a handful of other drivers I like, but I enjoy the engineering side too. I don’t cheer when drivers crash though or make poor mistakes. I know I’m probably in the minority with that one.

Depends on the driver! But yes I’d much rather see an overtake than a driver win due to a mistake.

Eh

I don't cheer when they wreck so much as I'm glad they are out of contention. I definitely don't want anyone hurt.

I saw a clip from Lewis at the end of the race and although some articles are making out he ‘forgot’ to turn the magic off, that’s not actually true. He turned it off and then accidentally turned it back on with the upshift.

Who thinks Mercedes will be modifying that steering wheel in the coming weeks? lol

I did wonder about the design and what poor engineer is now signing on at the local jobcenter... Although I have to question that as being the reason, why now at the 2nd restart did he hit the button? How come in all of last season this never happened, 2 cars, 2 drivers and now is the only time this happened... Makes me question the legitimacy of that as the cause of his going off the track..

I am sure he was foot to the floor and panicked, the only way to know is to see the data showing at what point "magic" was on, off, and on again as claimed by driver of car 44..

It was so fun watching my boy CL16 storm to poll , its so much fun watching F1 qualifying this season when its
not the usual "who of the 2 mercs will finish first" we had in previous years , race wise , its also nice seeing something else from Lewis starting on pole and just vanishing into the sunset and hoping for rain or other stuff to happen to get a different winner.

Also I wouldn't sleep on Checo , he is getting faster , and without a 5 seconds pit stop he would've gotten first place on track on merit , its going to be so much fun with the triple header coming up !!!!

What I am confused about is after the 1st tyre failure, safety car for a dozen laps, then Verstappen has the same accident, red flag within 1 lap.. Logic dictates that given what happened to Stroll, it should have mandated a red flag and tyre change for all cars, so when the radio message was played out "we had no idea, and I think a red is needed to change tyres" that then makes a mockery of the race director's ability..It makes him out to be a fool...Same accident, I would not be surprised if Mr Stroll snr is very angry with Race Director, as he race director obeyed Red Bull, it seems that the FIA favour Red Bull over Aston Martin.. Nothing else explains why Stroll got 12 laps behind the Safety Car, and Verstappen red flag within 1 lap, then the farce of a 2 lap shoot out...

Both Red Bull and Aston Martin have every reason to be annoyed at the professionalism of the race control, the 2nd accident would not have happened had there been a compulsory change of tyre at the red flag after stroll's accident..

It could be a new steering wheel design or just one of those things. Lewis doesn’t make many mistakes but he does make one from time to time. By the sounds of it it was his fault so I doubt anybody will be sacked over it. It sounds like the button or switch is on the back of the steering wheel to allow them to use it without altering their grip. They may look at moving this now but who knows?

I am not sure he hit the button or not, only the trace will prove that, showing the logged events of that period of the restart, I doubt he hit the button a 2nd time, and his own ego or whatever took over and he lost control and went off the track.. it seems strange that in all the races this year, and last year, this button was never once hit by accident.. The odds of it being hit must be quite low.. I do think a redesign was ordered within 20 seconds of the restart... But as to that being the reason driver in car 44 went bos..I think he just lost his mind...

So you think Hamilton admitting he pressed the button by accident is his and Mercedes way of covering up that he made a rare driving error? What the actual lol?

It is possible he hit it only once, and it jammed on, which led to the forest fire he had for brakes, or he lost composure, went a bit mental for a moment, and headed straight to the scene of the incident, hitting it a 2nd time seems implausible, given it has never occurred before, and I would have suspected that at any track in the season this accidental hitting would have occurred, Monaco would be it.. Not a static restart.. That is all, just seems odd, as to why now and not during the run down to the Lowe's hairpin at Monaco, that sudden left to right, bump at the crest of the hill... There it would make sense to bump the button..at a restart, level track...hard to believe.. The data logged pdf would reveal...

For those who watched live... when the race was red flagged, Hamilton jumped out of the car in the pit lane and looked very fatigued. He was noticeably limping and walking funny which can be understandable after 49 laps. It's just that I was looking at the other drivers that got out of the car and they all seemed fine. Maybe Lewis was just a but fatigued yesterday leading to the magic error.

More to the point why no 1st red flag after the Stroll accident? Who owns F1? Given how 1 phone call and Micheal Massey red flags the race.. That is more important, as it sends a clear message of who has the power in F1.. Not Merc, Not Aston Martin, Red Bull own F1, they called the race... Why 12 laps for Stroll, and not for Verstappen....

1 radio call... We had no warning, I bet the same message was at Aston Martin, they had no warning, then no red flag, then Verstappen, red flag, that says a lot about F1 and power bases...

Actually I think it was very good of RBR to say a red flag was the best solution. It gave them a potential restart with Lewis on there tail to worry about. That said after Stroll had his blow out it was a one off, a fluke. After a second it looked to dangerous to carry on IMO. I expected the race to finish under a SC.

Fine, but that does not explain the lack of a red flag after the Stroll crash, same conditions, 2 different decisions, given what happened at the British Grand Prix, 3 blown tyres, the FIA, and F1 are not that bright... There should have been a red flag and a compulsory change of tyres.. Had this occurred at the Stroll crash, the 2nd might not have happened.. So nothing can justify the Verstappen red flag.. The logic does not play.. The only reason for the Verstappen red flag, cheating by Red Bull and F1/FIA race control..
