Why did HAM and BOT switch chassis ?

Now it seems BOT is killing it and HAM is struggling.

Hang on, from another site:

Bottas complained that his car wasn't to the same standard as Hamiltons.
Toto then took the decision to prove that they are the same...

Cool. I hadn't realized BOT complained.
Toto said on live TV it was a pre planned switch and not to prove anything.

Tremendous race out front. Lewis did all he could have 110%. Bottas screwed again by Mercedes.

Congratulation to Max, Sergio, and RBR/Honda Power.

Karma is a bitch. Toto has “Barcelona on my mind.” 😉

Can’t understand why they didn’t either bring Bottas in to split strategy or bring him in after the Perez pass for fastest lap? Seemed very strange. Can’t see Bottas there next season.

Just watched the Notebook on Sky which explained that. Mercedes thought Perez had all 4 wheels off the track when he overtook Bottas, so took the chance he'd get a 5 second penalty. Perez finished just over 5 seconds ahead anyway. lol

That makes sense. Still think they’d have got third place with Bottas if he’d come in sooner. Maybe more.

I saw. Makes sense. I can’t see RBR losing the WC now. The drivers will be closer. But two races in Austria will suit Max.
I hope it remains close and they trade wins until the end of the season. I don’t care if Max wins the WDC as long as Lewis remains on his game. We’ve got a good crop of British drivers in the mix too so the future years should be exciting. I haven’t watched a live race for 2 or 3 years now and rarely watch the highlights but I may be tempted to dedicate myself to doing that once again if the racing gets juicy.

Well you don’t have to wait long for the next one.

Be interesting to see what Red Bull do with their engine next year.

The 2022 Honda engine will be introduced prior to the end of the 2021 season. As we know RBR will take over the engine development with Honda Technical Support until the 2024 season.

2025 will be the next big engine decision for RBR.

The 2021 V. 2.0 of the RA621H was in Max and Sergio’s RB 16 for today’s race.

Even running slightly lower downforce the RA621H had little difficulty pulling the AMG W12 E.

Mercedes seems to be really in a reactive posture after today. If Lewis had not been on the wheel they would have had no podium today.

Should be interesting to see how Bottas handles any requests to hold drivers up for Lewis if need be for the remainder. He’s definitely gone next year after today’s horse crap despite what came out of Toto’s mouth.

It’s very hard to hold someone up when they have newer tyres and an equally (or perhaps faster) engine. It’s not like he can weave down the straights. Plus DRS makes it too easy these days. Wish they’d drop it.

Looks like Max & Red Bull are favourites for the titles this year.
@pachyderm You still think Max is a questioning what's the point?
No sir(or ma'am...?)!

I think he has something to live for!!

Early days still though...

I was traveling this morning and only got to see the first twelve laps.

Pleasantly surprised when I stopped for lunch.

Mercedes also admitted some weeks ago that they have stopped or reduced development on this years car so we could see them lose out this year due to this. I would be pretty miffed by that if I were Lewis as he’s clearly driving the balls off that car.

Great drive by Charles for DOTD. Great race for Carlos as well. Really feel bad for George going out with a mechanical. Was having a great weekend.

Mercedes really dumping on Lewis for abandoning the W12E for 2022. I actually feel for him. Great drive to bring it home 2nd in a chassis that is clearly unhappy with the new tires, and down on power. Fist time since 2014 Mercedes has gone 4 consecutive races without a win.

Great drive by Sergio. One more lap for P3. Amazing pace. Lost P3 from the blown Pit Stop.

Congratulations to Max and the RB16/RA621H. 0.23 quicker on the straights is powerful. Will he repeat next weekend? He gets my vote. 😉

I think Mercedes usually pretty run with what they have for the season don't they? They've usually been so far ahead it's not been an issue. With the financial rules, they don't have much choice now.

A combination of the rule changes affecting them more than they expected and Red Bull being strong from the first race has seriously put Mercedes on the back foot. Isn't this what everyone wanted, Mercedes & Lewis not to win?

Red Bull have the car and a maturing driver in Max who's making fewer mistakes. Long way to go but he's my favourite to win the title.

Sadly it is the only thing that let's them pass one another.

I'd get rid of the battery extra charge thingy too...
But the passing is always too easy with DRS. Just boring to watch. If they are close enough, they just zoom past on the straight. No late braking or dive up the inside. Just zoom past with no way to resist.
