But the passing is always too easy with DRS. Just boring to watch. If they are close enough, they just zoom past on the straight. No late braking or dive up the inside. Just zoom past with no way to resist.

But wasn’t the issue previously that nobody dared or could overtake at all anymore?
I think you have a point that DRS makes it easy to overtake, but if that were the case universally, there would never be any significant gaps between cars during a race as it would be a constant fourth and back.

Next season the cars will be less complicated aerodynamically. So in theory should be able to follow each other with out as many issues. Passing is great. But if it’s open the rear wing and just drive by on the straight with no chance to defend or no need to out brake the other guy, it’s just not the same. It’s a forgone conclusion.

Not sure a F1 car and less complicated aerodynamically could ever be used in a sentence. (I'm making a joke. Please don't take view that as an attack!)

Next season the cars will have limited venturi tunnel ground effects. This will increase the car downforce making it less dependent on air flowing over wings. It is hoped this will allow closer wheel to wheel racing.

Some may recall in the glory days of F1 Ground effects, many cars didn't even have front wings.

Hence it is just a few zones and not the entire track. You still need to make it into the one second window to even be allowed to trigger it.

Again it’s a direct result of even more boring races prior to its invention. I’m all for simplicity as long as we get racing in return and not a long procession of cars following one another until we’re all asleep.

Well you couldn’t use it all over the track anyway. They’d never make the turns!
Agree we want to see more overtaking. But a system where the guy behind has the advantage of the slipstream plus DRS is too much. Once you are within that 1 second window, it’s too easy on most tracks. Maybe they should experiment with shorter DRS zones.

No shorter DRS Zones.

I remember. I still enjoyed the period of Senna and Prost in the MP4/4 with the RA168E the most in my decades of F1 watching. It was such a monster of a car. You had to be on the edge all the time driving. The 1000 + hp was like a light switch. Nothing like todays Turbos.

In the hands of Senna he could make it do unnatural things.

Have to say it - George Russell gets the Williams into Q3!!! Cannot wait to see this kid in a proper car!

Cool to see Lando on the front row tomorrow, that kid is one of the best talents I have seen in recent years. I think him and Verstappen are going to be the rivals in future years and it should be very good to watch.

I’ve had to unsubscribe from the official F1 page on Facebook as the comments on there are just infuriating. So many new F1 fans with no clue how to differentiate between how good drivers are and it’s all just so simplistic. You just can’t educate those people and I’ve realised it’s best just not to read the comments.

Plenty of that goes on everywhere. That’s why I’ve never joined FB. Can’t deal with the idiots. Plus I’m not really in to data mining!
But yes Lando is a real talent. The fact that he’s making Ricardo look pretty average is testimony to that.

Very excited for him.

I hope he doesn't "Trulli" that into 7th by the end of the race.

I can't see Lewie finishing any lower than 3rd.

Poor Fred. That was one of the best laps I've seen the Alpine almost complete.

RUS was impressive again.

Ferrari seem to be going further adrift this season.

The thing about Alonso’s lap was if it was one of the newbies that got into his way you’d get it. But Vettel? He should know better.

HE'S IN 3RD NOW!!

SWEET!

I’m listening on Radio 5Live due to the races not on tv anymore and Jolyon Palmer made a good point that forcing someone off the track where there is a run off area isn’t penalised but when there is gravel there is. Nothing in the rules mentions the surface of the track limits and that needs to be amended I think.

Was there ever any doubt??
