He's got a long way to prove that.
Agreed. Lewis, Max, Lando are all very capable. Vettel, Alonso and Kimi all were but they have lost the consistency and outright pace they had.
F1 isn’t just about being the fastest, it’s also about knowing when to push. When to save tyres, when to go for the pass and when to wait. You need the complete package. Yes you also need the car, but having the car alone isn’t enough.

Don't get me wrong, Russell is a good driver with great potential. And if he keeps doing what he's doing, he'll get his chance in the Mercedes.

But to say he's better than Lewis & Max because he got into Q3 a couple of times is laughable. And I certainly don't agree with Red Bull being "desperate" to sign him.

Didn't say RUS was better at this time than either HAM or VER, but right now he's got the most talent and potential.

Put another way, if you had to pick any driver from the grid for the next decade, who would you choose? My pecking order would be the following: RUS, VER and LEC.

I’d pick Norris before any of those to be honest.

I can’t agree there lol. Not a fan of bulky garish Richard Mille’s if I’m honest. I’d sooner take an IWC or an Omega personally. Plus Lando wears what he’s given, probably has an Apple Watch at home

Agree on the watch. While I use an AW daily I do have a small collection of Analog Watches I’ve acquired over my lifetime I wear out to special events.

My favorite is my fathers 1967 Omega Constellation Automatic he left me when he passed. It’s immaculate with the original band.

The entire sponsorship of racing with ever so super expensive luxury bling watches is about as believable as a sponsorship from Victoria’s Secret.

So how hard do you lot reckon these guys will be racing today?

I mean if they incur damage, serious damage, won't they be screwed for tomorrow?

Are the teams allowed to bring more than one back up chassis?

If you are in the top three you get points. The rest of the field can take it or leave it. If I was Hass I’d not even bother running!

But then it was pretty much done. You can’t pass all that easy once you get within a certain distance. Hopefully next year’s aerodynamic simplification will improve things.

Well this really was a "sprint" - I blinked and it was over - so with no appreciable tire wear or fuel burn-off (compared to starting on full tanks) I'm not surprised the cars were generally "position stationary". We see much the same in the early portion of a full race distance.

Well, it was sort of a race, at least the first 2 laps. Stewards too lax on the weaving train IMO.

Sunday will be interesting. Even with the new very low downforce wing the Honda had no trouble pulling the AMG on the straights.😉

Sunday will be closer. Tire wear will be the make or break on Sunday especially on full tanks at the beginning.

Nice “Sprint” from Lando. 👍

Can the ride around the track in the bus after the race. Too NASCAR.

First ever spin in a sprint goes to none other than MAZ.

At least the boy is consistent

Well that was disappointing. Basically the sprint race undos everything about qualifying, put the cars in basic GP order, and ups the risk of poor GP starting position. And quali was exactly the same, but less important for the GP. What’s the upside?

The RBR seems to just be better than the AMG on full tanks - better chassis stability and lower tire wear.

As the fuel burns off, the AMG starts to come alive which is why Lewis usually becomes a real threat in the final third or so of the race.

The sprint had the advantage of low fuel loads for the AMG, but the tires were equally fresh so Lewis was able to make a charge or two on Lap 1, but that last lunge forced him to hit the brakes and drop too far back to mount a real charge against Max over such a short race distance.

I have no disagreement with your point on full tank tire loading.

I simply don’t believe the W12’s chassis will allow the tires to put Lewis in a position of not having to box near the end.

Power aside the RB16 is easier to manage tires IMO on any fuel load.
It’s a better chassis and the Mercedes never liked the new Pirelli tires from day one.

I hope tomorrow will be tight at the end. I just don’t think even Lewis’ outstanding skills will be enough to offset the RB16’s ability to put its power down for 52 laps.

I presume the Top 10 ran the sprint race on their Q2 tires and now have fresh rubber. And do they get free choice for starting tire compounds on this one?

Button(?) seems to think blistering won't be an issue today...
