Yes I think he’s gone too far really. Penalty given. Penalty taken. Move on. I think Alonso weaving yesterday was worse. He was just lucky not to cause an accident.

Agreed. The Weaving during “The Sprint” needs to be dealt with. Was my biggest complaint yesterday other than the “NASCAR“ ride around the track in a big truck waving.

Horner now on Channel 4 pretty much comparing Hamilton to Rudolf Höss lol. Come on mate, it was a nasty shunt but born from the slightest of touches in what was a racing incident.

Can I just congratulate my fellow forumers here for the level headedness shown and the fact driver preferences have been left out of this.

Yup, that was uncalled for. Pretty tame though considering what is going on in r/F1 over on Reddit.

I’ve never read such hate in there before. It’s usually a stable, facts oriented Sub.

Quite concerning, IMO. Hope this can be behind us by Hungary. This rabid nationalism is starting to be an issue in F1.

Sad.

Think there's going to be some feisty driving between Lewis & Max for the rest of the season. I doubt it'll be the last coming together, they both really want that title.

Agree. The trouble is with the big changes coming next year, no one knows if they will be driving a good car next year. This could be Lewis’s last chance for a title or Max’s only chance. I don’t believe that but you never know.

That has appeared in many places too and most notably in the official F1 Facebook page. People actually hoping Lewis has a career ending crash and worse. I only discuss F1 here and on Autosport now. It’s so much better when you’re actually discussing with people who have a decent knowledge and have been watching for longer than the last couple of eras. Even if the views often don’t align, you at least know you’re getting an educated discussion

Try this maybe?

This is what Max had to say on his Instagram account, also unfollowing Lewis. The comment sections on social media are a complete mess.

Sounds like thinks will be heated in Hungry. Can’t say I’m surprised. If people were saying Max was in intensive care, then yes celebrating would be disrespectful. But everyone was saying it’s just a precaution.

Yeah I’m in disbelief at some of the things I am reading and what was a simple racing incident is being discussed like Lewis intentionally tried to kill him. The fact Red Bull and so many of their social media fans think Lewis would calculate a hit that could well have seen both of them out of the race is beyond absurd. These are two incredibly talented racing drivers and if the roles were reversed, would Max have held the inside line through Copse? You bet your backside he would and if he says he wouldn’t, then he’s not the racing driver he gets the credit for.

A racing incident all day long and I hope all this gesturing from Red Bull doesn’t force the FIA to make an example of Lewis just to appease the less rational. Move on I say and remember what was a thrilling race

Absolutely. I’ve seen Max do similar stuff. Lewis has been around for ages and hardly has a reputation as a dangerous driver.

This was just racing. I'm surprised the stewards even handed down a 10 second penalty.

Play on gentlement.
Totally agree, it was a racing incident. However, this was coming for a while now. Max is very aggressive and i can remember at least three occasions this year when Lewis backed out to avoid an accident with Max. There comes a time when you have to decide two can be aggressive .

Absolutely. There is also the aspect when racing where drivers have to send a message that they are committed and won’t concede a corner through fear. Max has been used to drivers backing out and has had a few wheel banging moments in his F1 career so far. I don’t think Lewis intended for this type of consequence but this has certainly put a line in the sand for the rest of the season. I don’t think the Mercedes is powerful enough to beat the Red Bull overall but Lewis is in a position where he absolutely needs to go for those gaps should they exist.

His line into that corner was consistent to how he took it for the rest of the race incidentally which was interesting. LeClec avoided a collision in Copse with Lewis at the end of the race and commented that he thought Verstappen’s crash was a racing incident. Max did force him off the track recently though so I think he agreed Max can be pretty overly aggressive. It was a big impact, and I hope it’s the last of the season. It’s hotting up nicely from a fan perspective.

Both Red Bull and Mercedes have addressed the awful social media abuse that we aren’t allowed to discuss here though which is a great touch I thought. ‘Fighting on track, united off it’

Going out on a limb here but I believe that the sprint race qualifying led to this. Get rid of it.

I agree The Sprint should go. Just curious though. As far as “led to this.” Ive been thinking about this as well. While it was a racing incident and Lewis would never intentionally wreck someone, at least from what I’ve seen I’ve been wondering if he felt even more pressure to get past Max after the Sprint letdown?

No question both could have done more to avoid the incident especially since it was in Copse. Sometimes the intense pressure can lead to miscalculation (not mistake) by even the greatest athletes.

It just seemed uncharacteristically aggressive for Lewis on the fastest corner in F1. I keep seeing that pass on Charles at the end where he clearly backed out to avoid contact. It was a very consistent move for him.

Not placing any blame here at all. It was racing. I just think this Sprint format will lead to more aggressive behavior during the initial laps of a race. I don’t see the entertainment vs risk factor being acceptable.

I want to watch 50+ laps of competitive racing. If I wanted to see Sprint Races where aggressive is the name of the game, I’d go to my local 1/2 mile dirt track.

I’d appreciate if you had a point to make instead of just dumping links into the forum.

You obviously didn’t check out said link. Very much to do with thread topic plus I think he can post whatever he wants if it isn’t vulgar, threatening, etc.

In order to determine its contents you’d have to watch every video and load every link. It’s a discussion forum, if external sources are helpful, add them but not let them be your post.
