No love for Mexico? Usually a RBR track, but really surprised to see a Mercedes 1-2 in qualifying. Had to wait for the rerun this morning. The race is on at midnight. Not great, but I’m off work again tomorrow, so at least it’s not too bad.
Hoping Lewis can close the gap. A couple of points difference going into the last race is the dream.

It's getting there buddy, 6 points in it I think now.. 4 more races and next week is a sprint race too. So fingers crossed it'll go to the wire and the last race.

EDIT: or is it 19 points?

Great result for RBR. Not so much for the drivers WC. Think Max has this now short of a DNF.
Bottas was unlucky to get hit and end up last. But he never gets back in the way you’d assume Max or Lewis would have.

So that’s why Mercedes achieved front row lockout in qualification? But I agree that track does seem to better suit Red Bull car setup and driving style.

I think the mix up in qualifying handed Mercedes the front row this year in Mexico as the Red Bull’s were dominant throughout practise and most of qualifying, not to mention the race. The Mercedes’ has been a few tenths of Red Bulls pace for much of those season which is a welcome change I think even for those who support them. It’s nice to have a competitive season.

Until next season. With massive rule changes we know there will be a big gap again in 2022. Always is.

i think Mercedes need to bite the bullet and drop Bottas now instead of waiting until the end of the season. He seems to be playing in Red Bull corner. He did nothing to defend against the overtake from Verstappen at the race start, in fact he moved out of the racing line and was on the brake early to make it easier for him. This is not the first time either a couple of races ago where Bottas and Verstapphen both got new engines but Bottas started tenth and Verstpphen 15 Bottas seem to move out of the way as if he was a back marker getting a blue flag.

I'm not going to fault Bottas for his actions considering:

  1. Max has shown no fear in taking a corner and if that results in physical contact, so be it;
  2. If there had been a collision, with Lewis to his right there was a legitimate concern that the three of them could have come together or Max could have pushed Bottas into Lewis with either result risking damage to Lewis;
  3. The FIA stewards have made it clear that there is no such thing as a "racing incident" anymore and if there had been contact between Max and Bottas, there was a legitimate concern that Bottas would have received a penalty;
  4. The Mercedes had looked faster in the practice sessions and qualifying and Max was definitely benefitting from the tow at the start. So it was not unreasonable for Bottas to believe that even if he "let" Max through, he could then catch up with him.

Don’t get me wrong, I really dislike Brundle and enjoyed seeing him being shoved, but these supposedly famous people (I’d never heard of her) and their large groups really just clog up the grid. They aren’t the most important people there and seeing them swan around pushing people out of the way had to be stopped I think.

I really enjoyed Peter Windsor's grid walks and I find Brundle's grid walks an enjoyable way to begin the broadcast and get a quick intro to how the teams did in qualifying and preparing for the race.

All of these celebrities in F1 are there because the teams invite them and give them passes to join the teams in the pits, isn't that right? If the teams want to settle down the chaos on the grid at the beginning of the race, it is completely within their control to impose that restriction, seems to me.

I like Windsor ...

He also has the five-place grid penalty for the new engine.

No determination yet. Apparently the violation was the gap opened beyond the allowed 85mm in the DRS Zones. There was no issue with the closure gap after the zone.

Would be interesting to know what an extra mm or more of drag reduction would produce in Q3.

FIA is now looking at it with the Stewards. Interesting. Stewards have been making some wonky calls this season.
