What is going against the patriots is the general strength of the AFC east. No matter how you slice it, the patriots are a different team with Zappe. As much as BB wants to avoid a QB controversy, its hard to put Mac Jones back there when Zappe has been winning and/or playing convincingly.

I don't see the patriots doing much however because of Buffalo, Dolphins (if Tua is healthy) and even the Jets.

I agree, but I'm still not sold on the Jets just yet. They certainly have improved, but it remains to be seen by how much. Their wins have been against: Browns, Steelers, Dolphins, Packers.

The win against the Dolphins came without Tua playing. Their losses have been against the Ravens and Bengals. I'm not sure how to rate their win against the Packers. On the surface, it seems pretty impressive to beat the Packers in Lambeau. But I'm not sure that the Packers are as good as people think they are.

Both the packers and Bucs are mediocre - not bad, but not good either. I think both of those QBs over stayed their welcome and should have retired.

To be fair, Rodgers is throwing to practice squad players.

No question, but then that was indirectly his fault as well. He signed a massive contract extension and GB had less money to sign other talent.

I give Brady credit when he was at NE. He could have chosen to push for giant contracts, but he didn't. He kept signing team friendly contracts that allowed the patriots to keep improving the team

I think more what makes an offense great is quality players at all the skill positions. Brady and Rodgers are both still good enough, but it depends what they have to work with. It’s no accident that the Bucs won the Superbowl with Brady, Evans, AB, Gronkowski, Fournette. A weakness at WR, TE or RB means an offense becomes one dimensional even if theres a quality QB.

The results are proving that the Packers and Bucs have too many weaknesses to be great teams, fair enough. But to put that just on the QBs getting too old is not right, I think.

Question…

Since the Broncos traded our first round pick in the 2023 draft, and the Broncos are winning the race for last place, if the Broncos end up last do the Seahawks get the first pick next year?

BB has done it before - multiple times:

Kosar > Testaverde
Bledsoe > Brady
Brady > Garrapolo (Supposedly RK nixed it)

and now

Jones > Zappe

I think Cleveland ruins any QB they get. If Cleveland had drafted Josh Allen, I doubt Josh would have become what he became.
We'll see once Watson starts playing. I've seen him dazzle in Houston for several years. If the stinks it up in Cleveland then I'll believe that.

I'm getting the sense Jacksonville ruins QBs: Brunnel, Leftwich, Garrard, Gabbert, Bortles, Minshew. Well maybe not Minshew, since he was a 6th round afterthought. Boy was he entertaining to watch🤩 before things went south.😒 He's like a young Fitzmagic/Fitztragic.😊 T-Law is supposed to be a can't miss talent like Andrew Luck, but he has failed to live up to that billing so far.
Hope he doesn't become the next David Carr.🥺 The Texans ruined him with years of no O-line and little run support.

I thought Mayfield finally broke the QB curse,
Me too, and to be honest, I was rooting for him, when he went to the Panthers because I think Cleveland did him dirty.

He's a gifted athlete but he's been out of football since 2020, there's probably a significant amount of rust, I don't expect him to hit the ground running.

What is probably problematic for Cleveland is that their free agency issue and salary cap. With Watson's salary going increase significantly next year, will they have enough money to build a team around him. They seemed to have created a win now team, at the expense of the future, except that with them losing now w/o watson they may not get into the playoffs this year.

I will say based my own personal circle of friends and acquaintances, everyone I know is rooting against Watson and to an extent Cleveland, given what he was accused of.

I didn't like how the Watson thing went down. They sign him to that (ridiculous) fully guaranteed contract, then structure it in a way to help him avoid heavy fines. That reeks of collusion. The league has to approve contracts and that one should never have been approved.

Agreed. Or the league should have just let him play this year and sat him next year. LOL.

I can't put my finger on it but I tend to agree that both teams ruin QBs.

Surely it isn’t a team that ruins a QB? The personnel changes all the time, the playing style changes, maybe it’s more an offensive coordinator that ruins a QB?

Agreed, that contract stinks worse than 3 week old fish.

No, it's the team. Look at the Bears. They have a talented young QB. So instead of getting him some weapons, in 2022 their first two picks are a Corner & a Safety.

The team concept matters.
