And the Dolphins lost a first round pick in 2023, a third in 2024, $2 million fine and owner Ross suspended until Oct 17th. Losing a first rounder. Ouch.

Jimmy doesn't want to be demoted to a backup role though, and I don't blame him.

Honestly, there is only Seattle left as a market for him. He doesn't have much choice. Play the Trubiski game. Play out the season as backup, then get a fresh start.

Crap! The Broncos lost WR Tim Patrick to a season ending ACL injury. Happened on a no-contact play. This is a big blow to the Broncos.

With q good QB now in Russell, the receivers below him just became a lot better. I don't think it will hurt as much as you think.

Ouch... there are some strong feelings on the punishment dished out to the Dolphins...

From the article:

The investigation comes after former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores filed a racial discrimination lawsuit against the league.

Flores told "CBS Mornings" in February that Ross offered to pay him $100,000 for every loss during the coach's first season because Ross wanted to protect the team's draft pick.

"This game changed my life. So, to attack the integrity of the game, that is what I felt was happening in that instance. And I would not stand for it," Flores told "CBS Mornings."

But the league's investigation found the Dolphins did not intentionally lose games during the 2019 season. Nor did anyone at the club, including Mr. Ross, instruct Coach Flores to do so."

But it notes Ross did express his belief that the team's draft position "should take priority over the team's win-loss record."

WOW...

I was happy to see Lance do well this weekend. He wasn't in very long but that pass to Gray was a thing of beauty. Also liked to see Sudfeld do well. I don't know if I like the idea of him sitting out the second preseason game but hopefully he gets the entire first half in the third. He needs the Reps, but I saw improvement.

Time flies, and another season is upon us.

Who would have predicted that Jimmy G is still with San Francisco, but given the circumstances, it was probably the best outcome for both of them. The team gets cap relief, and a better than average backup/insurance policy, and he gets to stay on a contender, with a no-trade deal, time to let doubts about his injury recede, and the potential to step in if the new guy struggles or gets hurt. The biggest hangup may be the locker room, but it seems the team and their two egos can handle it.

Lance didn't exactly tear up the pre-season, so I hope SF knows what they are doing.

You know the old cliché, defense (and pitching) wins championships.

SF's defense got them to one SB, and had it been able to stop the Rams one more time last season, into another.

Whether they would have been able to win it is another matter, and why they sought out Lance.

Unlike a lot of rookie starting QBs, he's going into a situation with a good team around him, and won't be counted on to carry it. He just needs to be good enough, and not make too many hurtful mistakes. A story that shouldn't be unfamiliar to SF fans.

A strong defense and mediocre QB play can still win championships. The Ravens and Redskins come to mind.

But, good offenses are more entertaining. The Bills/Chiefs AFC title game was one of the best last season. I hope that was just the start for Josh Allen because he's fun to watch.

We in Buffalo are optimistic. But we've seen this story before. Buffalo spprts is littered with "almosts." Wide right. Music City Miracle. No Goal. 13 seconds. Three of Buffalo's six appearances in championships (4 Super Bowls, 2 Stanley Cups) ended in the city of Dallas. 0-6. So Dallas is always a special area of hatred :)

We'll believe it when we see it.

I don't think you can really judge what Lance did in preseason, considered he only played 2 of the games. I think Chicago (When it's not wintery) will be good for him. It's on the road, it's the first game of the season and the team will be going 100%. Also, the additions of Kittle and Williams will help.

Let’s not forget that Trent Dilfer led the Buccaneers to a Super Bowl win as well.

No, that would be Brad Johnson. Dilfer won his 2 years earlier with Baltimore. ;)

Dilfer was drafted by the Buccaneers.

Oops, you are right. Still, Johnson wasn’t anything to write home about.

Nope. Both were game managers surrounded by great defenses. And in the case of the Bucs, it was Dungy's defense, not Gruden's. His SB sort of feels like Barry Switzer's. Pieces were put in place by someone else. He just managed not to screw it up.

Draft Day Wednesday for my fantasy football league. 22nd year with the same league and group of 10 players (I won once). My favorite day of the year :)

9 players split the remaining 20 seasons, eh? Is there anyone who hasn't won at least once? If one person has 5 or more wins, I'd be hiring an investigator to uncover fraud. ;)

I lost the championship game three years in a row once :)
