The article mentions a smaller than 11 display in an 11 style design. I'm saying it would be the first time they create an original chassis for the SE so it sounds unlikely to me.
Yeah, the SE always seemed like a profitable alternate for new parts than FRU stock.

I see what you mean. Personally, I'd interpret that as an 11 but with a single rear camera, thicker display bezel (smaller viewable display), and power button Touch ID.

Some of us like the old design for practical reasons, not least being it's not very desirable to thieves, which matters when you leave your phone with your towel while swimming, etc.
Yep. I'm still using an iPhone 7 and I love it. I tried a 13 mini, but I just didn't like it as much as my 7. I know that sounds crazy. I tried a 13 and it felt like a giant blocky brick. I just prefer having the home button, touch id, the screen aspect ratio, the size, the rounded edges, the lcd instead of oled. I am really hoping they just improve the battery life on the SE3, because then it will be perfect.

This is not about money. I could buy a 13 Pro Max if I wanted to, but I prefer my 7. IMO, every other phone in Apple's line up feels worse to me than the 6/7/8/SE2020 form factor.

A better SoC might use less power. And people might not be using 5G most of the time. Let's wait for reviews about battery life.

Remember... it'll be a brand new iPhone using a decent modern processor for just $399

It'll still be a hell of a phone.

But if this literal entry-level model doesn't work for you... there are upgraded models available.
you dont get it...the current SE uses 7nm....the new one at most can use the old 5nm, so the SoC from iphone 12...and we all know the 12 series has the worse battery life from the 11, 12 and 13 series
So much gpu power and 5G draw the battery, physics
So apple should place a bigger battery

I don’t know battery size matters as much in every scenario, because the A-series processors are so efficient and matured a lot, and there’s so many ways to mitigate the battery efficiency through iOS settings.
I used to own the second generation iPhone SE and the battery rarely lasted for more than 7 hours. I tried tweaking stuff, but it really didn't make much difference.

Erm what? This SE will get the A15 - the one in the 13 series

that will be a plus if its A15 since the gpu cores run cooler
But still A15+5G for Li-Ion 1821 mAh is too much for a average battery life...expect an even smaller battery life than the 2020 SE, at least when its under load

I have always rejected the idea of an XR/11 sized iPhone, because it is not confortable for one handed usage (and on the store, every time I've tried an XR/11, I've dropped onto the table). HOWEVER, if they manage to make the XR/11 design smaller, even a bit, I might be interested. A 5.8" design like the iPhone X could be a good choice.

The ideal form factor for me is the iPhone 13 mini, and I've been able to test one this holidays, a truly amazing device, but sadly enough, I will return it because using it outside my home is very uncomfortable, having to type the passcode again and again due to Face ID not working with face masks. It is a pity that the only solution Apple offers to you is to pair it with an Apple Watch, a device I am not interested into, to be able to use the device properly on a pandemic situation. Face ID is not recognising me with a mask, and that's a major flaw that I cannot afford on a device that would be intended to last many years (and yes, masks are here to stay, the waves of SARS-CoV-2 haven't stopped yet and there's no point in the current horizon to when this will end). So I am staying with Touch ID.

Apple hasn't released the iPhone 13 mini with Touch ID, and next year's iPhone 14 will be big phones, regardless of them having under display Touch ID or not, I'm not gonna buy a smartphone I cannot handle with one hand (this is, bigger than 5.8"). Maybe the 2024 iPhone SE will feature the iPhone X/XS/11Pro body, but until then, this year I'm gonna return the 13 mini and get an 2022 iPhone SE, with an outdated design but hopefully a bigger battery and slightly better cameras.

Expectations:
Iphone SE 2024 = iPhone 13 & 13 mini with speed bump
I wish. But seeing as how the minis didn't sell as well as Apple wanted, I suspect that they'll stick with a larger form factor.

I will return it because using it outside my home is very uncomfortable, having to type the passcode again and again due to Face ID not working with face masks.
I don't have that problem. I just quickly yank the mask below my nose and the iPhone instantly authenticates, then I pull my mask back up. It takes me a couple seconds.

These past few years have felt like a time warp. The SE still feels new to me and, at most, 1 year old. Turns out, it’s going on 2 years old already. Crazy.

I wonder who would buy a device with bezels in 2022 when there are plenty of all display android options out there. Not all people care about 5G or having the latest chip, but they do care about displays.

As a happy 12 mini user, I am ready to wait until 2024 to upgrade to something with a screen that is smaller than 6.1”. No hurry Apple. ??

I’m not a fan of larger iPhones for myself, but Apple is really overdue to have a budget larger screen model.

I would rather have Apple and bezels then Android. Touch ID is also very important to me. I love my 2020 SE!

EDIT: I also prefer smaller phones.

SE serves as a marketing tool to encourage buyers to choose iPhone 12 for $699. For the people that really can't afford it, they go SE.

Android devices in the same price range as SE typically have a plastic frame.

Some of us prefer a home button. Changing the design of the SE is like changing the design of a sphere
Glad to see the iPhone line still has the option!

On the Android side, we went from capacitive home buttons on a dedicated horizontal row on the phone, to that virtual home touch bar, to gesture motions not unlike first used in the iPhone X. I've seen the Air and Pro have that same gesture navigation for the OS, but my 9th gen iPad still uses a physical home button. It takes a bit to get used to new things, and then go back, but I've managed to make it work (surprisingly. Nm learning what's new in ios15 since the last version I used were ios7 and ios8).

Still loving my iPhone SE 2020 but welcome the spec bump. As others have noted, this phone needs a bigger battery though.

1,821 mAh is simply not big enough. That's the same as the iPhone 8.

iPhone 7 actually had 1,960 mAh. If they could simply throw the same battery from the iPhone 7 in there, with the A15 Chip, that might help immensely.

I simply am still too in love with Touch ID to let go. My 2021 iMac has reenforced this for me. Touch ID rules.

You could be right. This new SE could be a complete disaster. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But like I said... if the new entry-level SE doesn't do what you need it to... try another iPhone model. That's why those other models exist.
