Funny, wrong button cost Lewis 2 titles, one in Canada, and one in Baku, Lewis and buttons, I wonder if George uses Lewis's locker.. Wrong gear, not sure that is possible, 20 000 laps and today he pulls the wrong gear whine???

So, I went back and listened again. His comment was that for some reason being behind Carlos resulted in his starting the lap in 1st. Not the gear he wanted. Felt it cost him .1

Seems more a lack of situational awareness, IMO.

Oh, funny, really, F1 is SNL.. A bunch of comedians.. who writes the scripts? MBS? .1 over a whole lap? He had at least 2 chances in Q3.. F1 is pure comedy...

What a testament modern F1 safety is. After Yuki’s crash you fear the worst. Then out of the wreck he jumps.

Ferrari fail to qualify in top 10 for both drivers for the first time ever at Imola.

Williams and Aston Martin both step it up.

But all eyes will be on Oscar and Max. Russell and Lando behind probably hoping they take each other out!

Sadly tyre management will be a big deciding factor tomorrow.

Teddy Bear makes a great point, the donkey racing team, goofed... "we don't have a tyre..." like "we will get back to you.." How long have they been racing? Maybe not hire toddlers..

Max wins the race in the first corner of the first lap with a great pass of Piastri.
Norris in second and Oscar in third. Albon finishes 4th.

Looking like the latest upgrades have brought the RB20 pretty equal to the MCL39 when Max is behind the wheel.

LeClerc only had new Softs and those were barely lasting a single qualifying lap. To expect them to last (at the time) 17 racing laps...

Ok, so that is all Minimum wrote, the end of an era.. The last winner of Imola... oh well, PawPaws goofed.. Not as bad as the Donkey kart Racing muppets.. oh I would love to pay $5 for the pay per view of the debrief at Mclaren or Donkey Racing!!

The only real strategy mistake by McLaren was bringing Oscar in too early, but LeClerc was flying on fresh Hards with an early stop so it looked like the undercut was very strong so I understand why they did so. The slow front right guy didn't help, but in the end it would not really have made a difference.

Norris was unlucky at the time to pit the lap before Ocon's VSC, but it was a moot point since if he had stayed out, he would have still been behind Max at the end and Max had the pace in clean air to keep the McLaren's at bay.

We did have 2000 laps with the advert laden go kart, that I thought would end up on it's roof..

Metronomicly Perfect Max. McLaren had nothing for him after the SC. ;)

Looking forward to the day Sky Sports is no longer in F1, and MBS is no longer Photo Bombing. 🤬

On to Monaco.

Monaco, a race it is not, a procession it is, and I so enjoyed the commentary today, and yeah, teddy bear made a great point, after so many laps behind the shopping trolley, the donkey racing outfit could have fitted pillows and they would have been ok... but no one has the guts to actually make a decision.."We will get back to you.." that should be the team anthem.. it speaks to the team ethics, decision making inability.. If asked about pineapple on a pizza "we will get back to you.."

Everything was going well until the pineapple pizza……..

Good win for Max. He made the most of the start and was lucky with the SC. Where as Lando was very unlucky with the SC. But ultimately he made inroads into Oscar’s WC lead.

What are your thoughts on two mandatory stops for Monaco next week? Hopefully makes it more interesting than the usual procession through the Principality.

I don’t really see the reasoning to implement this at Monaco other than attempting overtakes in the pits. It isn’t going to create any passing opportunities on track that I can visualize. Seems like an artificial attempt.

2 stops at Monaco.. interesting but fatally flawed, it does not make for better racing, the problem and I am no engineer, but I think the issue to degree of... By degree of, I mean the range of tyre is too narrow from the 3 dry, you want a stick as hell, pulls the moon out of orbit sticky, but only lasts 5 laps, but gives you many seconds per lap of pace, v a tyre that is slow as frozen molasses, but gives you 100 laps...

A C6 and C1 tyre for example, as wide a range as possible, so you are deciding between pace to start or pace at the end.. and a long stint, but the problem.. Monaco is too short an event.. hence the 400km or 3 hours... Monaco is way too short a race...

That first corner. Wow!!! When you think you’ve seen it all, what a move. I didn’t watch the post interviews and was wondering what Oscar was doing, I mean Russel got away real good. So whilst a great move, also a bit lucky that Oscar held up George.

I didn’t watch the post interviews and was wondering what Oscar was doing...

Oscar knows the 2025 rules and he knew that with Max's front tire ahead of his mirror at the apex, he could not push Max off the road so he had to leave sufficient space on the inside and Max used it to his advantage to slingshot past into the lead.

I like to think that with no VSC and SC, Oscar would have eventually been in a position to run Max down after the planned one stop when both were in traffic working their way back up.

I wonder had the race been 17 laps longer, maybe a better race.. The cars, the tyres, the fans, the sport really is being scammed at what is in effect a long sprint now.. We need longer races..

I didn't watch this race but saw a few clips and read the reports. Looks like Max pulled off a great first corner overtake and Red Bull have made significant progress in their performance in the last couple of weeks. McLaren couldn't touch him. Not sure what happened to Piastri's start as he seemed sluggish. I think had Max not been where he was, Russell would have had the pace to get past. Chuffed for Lewis, drove very well and I think he needed that boost in confidence. He seems to be having more of a say on strategy during the race which can only be a good thing.

As artificial as that is, I think they need to do something as Monaco has long been overgrown by the technology in F1. Its a marketing venue and I think the sport would be poorer for not having it on the calendar, but the racing is often dull due to how big these cars are and the limited overtaking chances. It might end up being a mixed race with rookies, 2 mandatory pit stops and hopefully a healthy dousing of rain.
