Nice... I seem to recall they had ghosts in a racing sim game around 2009/2010, on something I think was called a playstation, or x box.. it needed a cd/dvd in the drive...

Class 3 (highest) intensity rain has started to fall with 30 minutes to go so we will definitely see a delayed start (my guess is at least by 30 minutes).

There should be two races at the weekend, in my view, slightly shorter, and qualifying for the 1st on the Friday, and the grid order for the 2nd, based on finish positions of the 1st race. More revenue and interest from fans for the weekend, and adds more spice to the Friday.

Originally the Sprint Race results set the grid of the Grand Prix, but the fans and drivers were not happy about it because a bad result in the Sprint would scupper your Grand Prix, so they changed to the current format where the Sprint and the Grand Prix grids are set with dedicated qualifying sessions.

Class 3 intensity rain continues to fall, but is said to be ending in 10 minutes.

Sainz, Hamilton, Antonelli and Alonso are all starting from pit lane so I presume they are on Full Wet setups now so they could be seriously strong early on.

Rather boring race if I am honest. They should have called in the SC at the end of Lap 2 to give the cars on high downforce wet setups a better chance. But kudos to Lewis for making that setup work when none of the others did.

I figured Oscar, Max and Charles on the podium, so I got two out of three right. And honestly better Lando than Max (especially now that Max is out of the WDC hunt).

Congratulations to Oscar. Great drive. Lando was in reach, too many mistakes once again…………. Great drive from Chuck to hold off Max’s last laps charge. Snooze from P4 back.

Listening to Crofty and Bumble explain away Lando’s errors with Fuzzy Logic, priceless. 😉

On to Hungary.

Not the best. Especially as a wet to dry race usually gives an exciting race.
Once Oscar got the lead, that was that. Lando made the right call going for hards, but the mediums held up reasonably well. Especially given Lando’s little mistakes.

Said it weeks ago and I’ll say it again. Only a dnf or two will see Oscar lose the Drivers Championship.

Great drive from Lewis. It was like Lewis of old for a few laps there.

In many other 'Formula's' they have 2 races a weekend. I can see its downsides, but also it's upsides. I love the sport of F1 and have been lucky, in the past, I worked as a Medical Officer at Brands Hatch/Silverstone, around the era of Johnny Herbert leaving F3000 to F1, and was part of the team that looked after him, after the horrific crash he had in August 1988.
But when the F1 race is 'effectively' 'won' on the first lap, it loses some of the magic.

This weekend proves my point 100% as to why Sprints are stupid and have no value, other than to destroy Sunday's racing...Here you have Red Cows going for a stupid race win in a pathetic non event, that cost them any hope of a win on Sunday.. Where as PawPaws couldn't care about the farce on Saturday and went all in for a double on Sunday..

As a result of stupid decisions made years ago, this event was ruined as a result, we had only 2 cars in the race, the rest were just there for show, this was a demo of the power of MacLaren Engineering.. There was short of a couple of morons in pawpaw orange going off, never going to be a result other than a PawPaw 1 n 2...

I agree, once the race is "won" on the 1st lap, it becomes a bit boring..

Here this weekend we saw a clash of ideology within the FIA... 1 side wanting to promote racing, and the other, rules...

So Red Cows set the car for the Sprint Win, but due to "rules" cannot change the car as it is parc fermme rules, the weather changes, and now they have a boat anchor, a car that is for all intents and purpose is not fit for the conditions, it is a non viable car for the Grand Prix...

We as the audience are robbed of a race due to pedantic and pathetic rules that maybe should be shredded.. If the weather changes from dry to monsoon, like the FIA drop the 2 compound dry tyre rule, then drop the parc fermme rule, each team is allowed to change the car to suit...

A 20 minute warm up 2 hours prior to the start to ensure a safe car more suited to conditions on Sunday.. But no we are forced to watch a silly procession and zero overtakes and because PawPaws sacrificed a Saturday win [robbing us of a Saturday race] for a Sunday win.. Rules..

Seems there are not a lot of very bright folks working on the problem.. Or they are just too scared of having pink slips and being unemployed..

Yes, they chose safety over entertainment. Oh well. I'd hoped they would have done a few laps with the safety car then let it rip but I'm okay with the red flag. One of the most boring races, for me anyway, that I've seen this season.

@Apple fanboy boy I've been saying it for a while now too... It's Oscar's to lose.

Just overly cautious. The drivers and the FIA need to meet again. Their meeting at Silverstone seems to have been taken too an extreme by the FIA. Max commented in the post they should meet again to discuss this....... I don't approve of the FIA in this race, however, Spa does have more of an issue with spray visibility than Silverstone IMO. The very high speed circuits do need a different approach.

I post quite seldomly, but this post by JustinePaula begs for a slight correction. Parc ferme rules for the GrandPrix race require that no changes are allowed after the car enters the track for the first time in Q1 for the race in question. Thus Red Bull could change their setup after the Sprint race, and in fact did. The commentators made note of the different rear wing on Max's car from the Sprint. The sheer stupidity of the Sprint races is another discussion altogether. My opinion is apparent.

The problem is not so much the wet surface as much as it is a lack of vision due to spray from the cars.
The new cars seem to create much more spray than previous generations and other race series.
Mostly due to the ground effect floors and wide tires.

So FIA/F1 teams need to figure out a way to reduce the spray, which is easier said than done when the wheels are supposed to open ("open wheel racing") and the ground effect full body diffusers are part of the solution to the problem of cars not being able to follow each other.

Personally, I would try to go back to the 2008 cars but that will not happen, of course.

For a Sprint Weekend, Parc fermé does not come into effect until before Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday which is why Red Bull was able to crank more downforce on the car between the Sprint race and Grand Prix qualifying and why Charles Leclerc was able to take downforce off.

Hamilton, Sainz, Antonelli and Alonso all decided to significantly change their setup after Grand Prix qualifying to add more downforce via changing components and configurations, which is why they all were required to do a pit lane start as it was after Parc fermé had come into effect and the car was no longer representative to what was qualified.

If a race is declared "Wet" prior to the start, the teams are allowed to make certain changes to the setup to accommodate this. While they cannot swap front and rear wing elements, they can change the angle of the existing element to add downforce before the start (rather than having to wait until a pit stop). I believe they are also allowed to soften suspension and spring settings to make them more compliant to improve tire grip.

And it is correct!

Well put, well said.

IMO, after a Class 3 intensity rain storm, the teams should be required to bolt on a set of "free" Wet Weather tires and circulate behind the Safety Car at extended distances for a number of laps to remove the standing water off the track surface and allow all the generated spray to be dispersed. Then bring them in for fresh Intermediates and either line up for a standing start or a rolling start behind the Safety Car.

Its an idea, but how would that work in practice? :)

Imagine you have a race and declared wet:
You bring out the safety car and then ALL the drivers (20 cars!) all have to dart into the pit at the same time, change tires to the "free" set, line up and plod behind the safety car for a number of laps, then drive into the pits again to change back to "their own" tires and then re-arrange themselves to be in the EXACT order they were before the race was declared wet and then restart.

You know how long it takes for the leaders to unlap themselves when there is a safety car imagine trying to make the drivers rearrange themselves back in order again.
The pit lanes are not big enough for 20 cars at once.
You could make 10 drivers move in one lap and the other 10 the following lap, but that will add more confusion to the race order. What if someone has a slow stop or has to swap wings...

It's sadly an unfeasible idea.
