Nice to see Lando win and keep the title fight going. Gutted to see Lewis so downbeat and the fact Ferrari is worse than many thought it was. He made a huge mistake moving there and should have stayed or moved to another British team. The culture there is fractured and every race seems like a catalogue of errors. Lewis needs to retire at the end of the season and walk away with his head held high. Seeing the abuse he’s getting across social media has really hit home just how toxic F1 has gotten in fan circles and I’m starting to remove most of the teams and publications off my feeds. Don’t need to read it. The days of even being able to discuss F1 online is well and truly over and it’s very sad to see.

You can always discuss it here (well if you ignore some of the posts!).

The race was a slow burn but did come alive at the end. Happy Lando got the win to keep the drivers championship interesting. He fought really well on those old tyres. After his start, he really had no other option but to try the 1 stop.
Leclerc drove well until the end. Then as he saw his win then podium slip away he drove angry with George. I’m glad they didn’t collide.

Lewis looks so down. I hope he can reset over the break.

Good result for Bortoleto. P6 with no DNF’s or rain either.

Should team orders be imposed in favour of Norris?

That would keep the “hard done by” Australian driver story going and the Australian media would no doubt love it for ratings. All we need is an unpleasant devils advocate team manager figure lurking in the background and the story is perfect.

Or am I being too cynical? ;)

Nah.

Let them race.

Also, why favor Norris?

In my estimation Piastri is the better driver.

I thought Charles LeClerc was the Ferrari golden boy? But wow, they sold him dud goods.. Lewis was thinking he was useless, but actually it was the team.. There is a lot going on in many of the teams..

What this race suffered from is "too short" for the modern 2026 era.. We needed this race to be 90 laps, instead of 70, on fuel plenty of milage left, and it would have made for an interesting finish...

But we cannot have nice things, F1 is for the weak and pathetic now.. F1 is no longer about the best, maybe the best of the worst of the bunch.. F1 is basically T20 of cricket.. A short game that is basically a farce...

F1 needs to grow a pair in the panties dept, stop being stupid.. Be useful. 25% longer Sunday races..
Didn't we all know it was the team already?

For me 2021 and Lewis was robbed by the FIA of a title was when I realized that no one cares about the sport, not the FIA, not the teams, not the drivers, not the journalists, not the fans... I was the only one to point out the actual events as they happened...

The problem is Drive to Survive, the netflix abortion, they f**cked up everything, and now it is destroyed, to the point that drivers start believing they are the problem, when it is the FIA, the teams, race after damn race we hear the same diatribe about unfair "steward" decisions...

F1 has fallen from being a brilliant event, now it is just a huge brown stink in broadcasting.. F3 is almost better..

F1 is made worse by over regulation that is driving the sport into complete irrelevance, the regulations instead of driving competition and development is driving the sport into a technology dead end... It is not right that we know the driver and winner of the series before the mid season break.. Might as well cancel the rest of the season...

F1 is pretty much a farce now, run by people that have no interest in F1, but have weaponized the sport for their own financial motives.. Dads making threats, teams unable or unwilling to hire drivers, as a result the sport suffers...

Every so often you make a pretty valid point.

I hope they let them race and if they impose team orders, I'll probably stop watching. Both drivers are fairly even in terms of ability with Piastri a bit more confident, but Norris is capable or winning it in his own right, so is Piastri. Its the first season since 2021 where it looks like it could be hard fought until the end, I wouldn't want this one ruined too with team manipulation.

Agreed. I can’t see why they would impose orders. It’s not like the constructors or drivers championship is under threat.
If they had team orders from the start of the season it would be so dull. But the fact that they are letting them fight it out is making it worth watching. Hopefully they continue to trade wins for the rest of the season.

Hang on, hold the phone, have we not seen this farce before "team orders" in relation to Lewis Hamilton and more recently, Max Verstappen.. So yeah team orders are a bad thing, we end up with boring multi-year champions, and the number 2 driver looks like they drove catering for Clown College.. We don't want this..

Team orders should see teams banned or $500m fines levied, and banned for 10 yrs.. To favour 1 driver should see both that driver, and that team banned.. It has no place, it renders F1 the same as WWF, it is rigging and fixing..

The only team orders I could see is if one driver gets a points lead and the other started doing desperate things, putting each other and the cars at risk. Anything else would not be good for McLaren's reputation and ruin the championship for us.

I think they are too sensible for that. I’m looking forward to a season long battle.

Ferrari doesn't know why Charles lost so much time in the final stint, but some think it might be due to incorrectly setting the tire pressures. As the car's fuel load drops they have to increase the tire pressure to ensure the ride height is sufficient to keep the plank wear within legal limits.

The only reason his Ferrari was quick was the borderline illegal ride height. Ferrari miscalculated fuel loads, and the plank was wearing out. George saw what was going on, and felt it was tire pressures. Charles had a reduced engine setting after the last box in order to finish with a legal plank. Very Ferrari like.

All the F1 teams try shenanigans like that.

Remember Brabham with the BT49 for instance.

You read the rules once to see what they say then a second time to see how you can get around them.

Yes I do. Interesting article in MotorSport Week on McLaren. Stella lays out the ground rules for split strategies for the remainder of the season. Could be exciting if they can keep it together….

Fuzzy logic. All else equal (no tire change at this point) a decreasing fuel load creates greater ride height, not lesser. As the fuel load lessens, overall weight decreases, and the lower weight allows the tire load to decrease. The tire contact patch shortens, increasing ride height. Now, if a tire change is made with too little tire pressure then yes, ride height decreases and the plank may be in increasing track contact. Gotta know which scenario, otherwise incomplete information to make such a conclusion.

I might have this wrong, but I thought they could adjust the front wing angle, to compensate for loss of downforce due to fuel use, so that the new angle would increase the "weight" on the tyres as the car is at high speed, to push the tyres into the tarmac to increase grip...

But this has me thinking, what is the best "idea" for the race, set the car for the last few laps, so that you are slower at the start and lap time decreases [a good thing] over the 70 laps, or do you set the car to gain advantage off the line, then lap times increase [to me a bad idea...]

Engines, computers, the number of titles the meat in the seat has [or should have] is pointless if the 4 bits of very expensive rubber is not touching the ground.. How much and for how long is the point of the season.. The team that has the best rubber meets the road will win a title or 2..

They could tie! 😉

They can’t tie. If two drivers have the same points the win goes to whichever has the most wins. Then the most seconds then thirds etc.
I ran it through ChatGPT, and whilst it took some time for it to compute, it suggests it can be done, hypothetically.
And boy did ChatGPT struggle, it even showed windows with code and math being done, in real time:
