True, but according to The Race or one of the YouTube talking heads, the BWT sponsorship was only worth about $25M/yr (reflecting the lackluster results). Seems Gucci is paying upwards of $50M/yr. Still not in the ballpark of Oracle/Red Bull or HP/Ferrari at $100M/yr. But a nice increase for Alpine. Crazy to think Colapinto was bringing in upwards of $30M/yr for his sponsors exceeding the title sponsor. No wonder Briatore wanted him in the seat. Sponsors aside, happy to see Colapinto making strides and improving on the track as well.

Agreed.

Maybe we will see them in the good points soon.

So let me get this right, the herd of insane cats, signed off on a set of regulations, along with a calendar of events, for 2026, then at some point, someone realized, yikes, eek, we goofed.. So now for 2026, we have a car that does not fit the track, so lets just change the rules, bin the make the car go faster bit.. for safety..

Did no one tell them Monaco is a tiny track, only fit for racing shopping trolleys or Bugatti Veyrons on bricks??

That's about right but let see what these smaller cars are like wound Monaco - you might be surprised.

Weeks away, enough time for the morons to make further dumb decisions, there is a way to fix Monaco, run the race in reverse, from finish to start, exactly backwards, make no course change, and it works, and you can have a go faster bit, and everything, but you see, they have exactly the brains of porridge when it comes to fixing a track.

Mercedes has withdrawn their bid for the Otro Capital ownership stake in the Alpine F1 team as they believe Otro is asking too much.

In other news, a court case playing out in New York State has uncovered a "shadow owner/investor" in the Williams F1 team that the team had worked very hard to keep from public knowledge.

Are we supposed to care? Be shocked?

I'm not sure what to feel...

When I was a kid, late 70's, one of the best things on tv was WWF, as a 5/6/7 yr old, you believed in the goodies and badies, people did things for the right reason, then you grow older, wiser, learn the tooth fairy, Father Christmas, Easter Bunny are fake... Then you get older, start driving, working, earning, then it dawns on you.. F1 is about as real and legit as WWF was in 1980.. Sad I guess..

F1 has crashed and crashed hard, it is a shadow of what it was 40 yrs ago, or maybe it has never changed, I was brutally naive 40 yrs ago, maybe it was always a clown college, but I was not yet ready to understand this...

In general, I think most F1 fans at this stage will indeed be "who cares"?

But the FIA might care under the "Fit and Proper Persons Test" regulations if they were not aware of his major ownership stake in the team.

Anyone remember this?

Hahaha... Yes, only too painfully, stupid cars on stupid tracks, oh, just a tad better than Monaco...
They were loud, trying to edit and they had races, very loud, and the track layout was never going to work...

I seem to recall it was a ponzi-like fraud scheme, all smoke and mirrors, a scam..

Qualifying is always super-important at Monaco, but with new changes implemented in the name of safety that will likely make passing even more difficult, it could be absolutely critical in determining who finishes in the points.

Sooner they drop this ‘race’ and make it some sort of showcase instead the better.

Oh, no no, drop Monaco, no, they just need to race from the flag to the lights, backwards, start at the end, and finish at the start, then the track makes sense... If they have to drop any track, sadly Spa.. Too wet... We cannot have 2 lap events...

Monaco works perfectly if they race in the other direction...

Ahhh cool. that explains a little more to me than the actual video.

I know the real reason it is on the calendar is that it has traditionally been where all the teams entertain their major corporate sponsors and renew existing deals as well as sign new ones, but now that we have tracks like Jeddah, Abu Dahbi, Miami and Las Vegas on the calendar, I wonder if a fair bit of that "action" now takes place at those events, reducing the importance of Monaco? Perhaps that is why F1 was willing to move it to the new date to better accommodate Montreal?

Monaco is ok, not the best.. A few tweaks, like removing that suicidal chicane right after the tunnel, or at least have it a couple of meters further down.. Sort out that stupid 3km/a week corner before the pits.. I have said before, run the track in reverse, it works.. That fixes Monaco.. I doubt they have even tried, going up Rascase, instead of down, it works 10 000% better..

I will miss Monaco if it is removed.. A bit like going to a restaurant, they have onion rings, then one day they are no longer serving them, but that is why you go.. for the rings.. F1 without Monaco is like going to the restaurant without the rings, no point.. It should be a legacy listed protected event..

Jeddah. AD, SA, but they are now bankrupt, spent all their Dirhams on floggers, a couple of floggers on a fake tour.. Paid them billions and now the bank account is in overdraft.. nothing left to sell but the yacht and time on the F1 calendar..

Which is why I think Monaco might never not be on the calendar, big sports ie tennis, F1, soccer etc, they operate the year like timeshare, you as an owner of an event, say French Open, you have 15 days end of May, into June, that you own, if someone wants to run a tournament, it has to buy that time from the French Open...

A couple decades ago, we had the South African Open, and the federation ran into financial issues, and as a result had to sell their date in the WTA/ATP schedule...F1 is the same..

Lewis and co, want an South African GP, but where on the schedule, who is selling their slot? When does it make sense to host, with regards freight, weather, other events..

Which makes me wonder, why was Monaco moved? At first I was pissed off that Monaco was moved, and Montreal GP in it's place, but I thought about this for a while, and I think it was so that both Indy and F1 benefit, you as a massive sponsor, have to choose between Indy500 and Monaco, arguably the crown jewels of each season.. You have to choose where to send your clients, Indy or Monaco...

But move the F1 2 weeks later, drop in a run down semi pro track as a compromise, now the big spenders, have a weekend in Indy, then a weekend in Monaco.. And it is after pay day!!!!

I am sure that Monaco got a bit of a bonus for the move.. No free lunch..

The point is, I doubt the oil-barons really care, they are on a hiding to nothing, looking at the cupboard and wondering if the tinned beans are still safe...

Liv took them for a massive ride.. But I am sure they are going to be ok..

A1 GP was about as ship* as it can get, it never really made a lick of sense, but I guess it was something.. Then one day the penny dropped and everyone and the local camels knew... yeah, scam did not mean super camera...

The Durban track was ship*...Oh I had forgotten Beijing's farce, that was at the time, like what the.. I had no idea anyone could 1-build, 2-authorise, 3- race.. Bizarre and baffling...

Reports are that the FIA have completed their ICE analysis and Mercedes is the most-powerful ICE with Red Bull Ford Powertrains close behind. Neither will therefore receive any ADUO upgrades.

Motorsport Italy is reporting that Ferrari is 25hp down on Mercedes and will receive two ADUO upgrades. The first upgrade is expected to debut in Austria with the second after the summer break around Monza. Upgrades will focus on the thermal side of the ICU as well as a slightly larger battery pack.

I have not found anything on what ADUO upgrades Audi will be eligible for, but my guess is they are farther down than Ferrari and therefore will also get two upgrades. And then there is Honda, who is getting significant additional help beyond the two upgrades.

I'm still impressed with RBPT. I think they are within 10hp of Mercedes if not less. Dam impressive for a first PU. If only Horney could have behaved. Big win for Ferrari. Let's see if the upgrades can put the power down without chewing up the rears.
