Back in the day, some genius proposed a race around the streets of Monaco, in cars the size of modern rubbish bins, and it worked, it had a somewhat bizarre and quirky layout, and this become what we know and expect from Monaco...

No one has the courage to ask the question "Is this layout the best we can produce for modern cars?" If they did ask, they were escorted out of the meeting and into a waiting ambulance heading to the psych hospital...

We all agree Monaco is a bit of a problem, the race is won in qualifying, and overtaking, Max is more likely to be pregnant with twins than there be more than 3 overtakes for the lead..

Monaco is like the TSA line, something you just accept, it is what it is, can be better, but they choose this form of insanity.. Things evolve, will Monaco ever race in reverse direction? I am not expecting that, would be brilliant if they at least tried.. It works in the sims.. But "safety" elves lack imagination...

Charles Leclerc extends through the end of 2028 with Ferrari. And with Lewis having an option for next year which I presume he will trigger, looks like Ollie Bearman is going to need to wait another year at Haas. And what does this mean for Ocon? Toyota would like to put one of their academy drivers in a seat and there is Ferrari's Rafael Câmara, as well.

If his performance doesn't pick up I see him back at Mercedes as a reserve driver. If he improves, I'm having difficulty placing him.

I like Charles but I'm surprised they'd offer an extension.

Where else would he go? No better open seats. If Max retires I can’t see RBR wanting him. So it makes sense I guess.

Well of course he's going to take it.

I'm not surprised by that.

I'm surprised that FERRARI would offer him an extension.

Again, I like Charles, but I feel he's just a "So so" driver.

I could be wrong.

It's pretty busy... I can't tell what's going on with it...

So Monaco this weekend is the 1000th GP of the World Championship era? Then that's probably behind the move of the Monaco GP. Give the honor of that occasion to the arguably most prestigious venue on the calendar. It just makes sense.

No, it will be the McLaren team's 1,004th Grand Prix (999th start), so they're choosing the celebrate 1,000 this weekend. For the sport as a whole, Monaco will be the 1,155th F1 Grand Prix. Race 1,000 was the 2019 Chinese Grand Prix.

Ah, my misunderstanding. It makes little difference to me, though I'll miss Memorial Day weekend's racing trifecta. I could have Monaco after breakfast, Indy after lunch, and Charlotte after dinner. Now the real interest on my part faded out after Indy. On to the Monaco Parade.

For Ferrari, Charles has always been their foundation and their future. They signed him as a teenager and have completely ingrained and indoctrinated him into their culture. Both are integral to each other and therefore Ferrari cannot let him go and Charles would likely struggle to adapt and integrate anywhere else. So it makes sense for Ferrari to sign him "forever" and Charles to accept that contract.

Yeah.

I'm not questioning that it makes sense for him to sign it. ;P

I'm surprised they didn't look to go in a new direction.

I'm happy for Charles. Usually, guys that I root for get screwed over.

I thought it was McLaren's 1000th...

Considering there are no straights at Monaco... 😛

Seriously, The Race explains why it has been discarded for the track.

On the flip side, this is going to make energy deployment and recovery extra-critical for performance.
This. I think the only "straight" at Monaco is the approach to swimming pool.

Monaco is ok, not the best.. A few tweaks, like removing that suicidal chicane right after the tunnel, or at least have it a couple of meters further down.. Sort out that stupid 3km/a week corner before the pits.. I have said before, run the track in reverse, it works.. That fixes Monaco.. I doubt they have even tried, going up Rascase, instead of down, it works 10 000% better..

I will miss Monaco if it is removed.. A bit like going to a restaurant, they have onion rings, then one day they are no longer serving them, but that is why you go.. for the rings.. F1 without Monaco is like going to the restaurant without the rings, no point.. It should be a legacy listed protected event..
Do you end up with an issue coming out of the pits merging with everyone braking to turn left at Rascasse?
