Doubtful of this one. Physics and breakage stand in the way.
Yes they do break more easily. Samsung made phones like this for years and a lot of people avoided buying them due to how much easier they are to break when dropped. Plus they don't do well with tempered glass screen protectors.

They had better get those “palm rejection algorithms” right. I have an iPhone 15 pro that I don’t use a case with and it is constantly jumping all over the place because the bezels are far too thin already. I don’t care about a small black line around my screen. I do care about random page jumps, apps opening, skipping back and forth pages or articles.

I haven't used a case in years. Bring it on

Honestly the best part about these kind of rumors is seeing what kind of off-the-wall designs Samsung frantically comes up with to beat Apple to the punch. The iPhone 6 "curved glass" rumors were so overblown and Samsung ended up with that weird half-waterfall phone edge, lol.

I would strongly argue that the Galaxy S8 aesthetic should have won out over the iPhone X. Having thinner top and bottom bezels is much more elegant than that bloody notch or its punch-hole successor. The curved edge screen was a really nice thing to use, and enabled the use of swipe-in pop-ups without blocking the main display.

It sounds like Apple are going with something similar to the Huawei P40 Pro design with its 4-sided curved display.

As cool as it sounds, I guess a design like that wouldn’t even allow for a proper case, right? You probably couldn’t put one on without covering the display which kind of defeats the point. And with curved glass on all four sides, it feels like one bad drop away from disaster.

Would anyone actually feel comfortable carrying that around without a case?

I sometimes wonder if Apple's design team is even cares. They seem more interested in how the finished product looks than how it handles in real world situations. In the past, you'd always see Jony with an iPhone without a case.

Plus, Apple will probably just suggest you get AppleCare+

Rather than criticise them for that, perhaps ask why the can do it more quickly than Apple.
Many reasons.
Samsung manufactures its own memory, cameras, batteries, modems, and various ICs. They can throw spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks. Apple is the opposite.

We don't get Huawei phones in the US so when I looked up the P40 Pro it sure sounds a lot like that. That's a nice looking phone.

Sorry but what's the point if it becomes obviously impossible to use without a case because the glass is no longer protected? You put on a case and you suddenly lose the curvature and have thick bezels from the case.

Not everyone uses a case

Let’s get excited for no bezels and then do what everyone does and slap a case on the thing so that it gains those bezels back. And the 2% of people who don’t use a case now will want one so that the screen doesn’t have spurious inputs from holding the phone. I’ve never understood this obsession with no bezels. Pointless.

I'm a butterfingers and keep phone usually 3-4 years. I feel like this wouldn't allow for a robust case like my favorite Smartish Gripzilla.

I noticed you cut out my post where I also said "Only difference is Samsung only curved the sides, not the top and bottom also."
It doesn't matter what I cut. The edges on where it's curved you can still see the bezel on the samsung phones.

And even then, the "cut" part negates the argument you were trying to make.

and i'm sure Samsung will trash Apple's XYZ decision only to copy it later.

just like the headphone jack https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-headphone-jack-ads-1017246/
or customizing home screen icon layout.... or copy and paste....or Always on Display...home screen widgets...digital assistant....customizable toolbar....icons colors and themes.

Lets be clear here...they BOTH copy from each other.

This was one of the early iPhone goals. I wish Jobs were around to see it. I usually upgrade every other year but my 15 PM may just have to chug along till this is a thing.... Prob not, I suck at not getting the new toys.

Well, I do suppose that the only way to level up from "our smallest bezels ever" would then jump to "lol no bezels."

But then lots of questions pop up.

... I'm supposing they're somehow going to have a glass "shell" around most of the device. But if they do that, there are some questions. How the hell do you turn the phone on and off? What about the speaker system? Is it still USB-C powered, or charged via magsafe only? Is there still a tiny slit at the top of the device for hearing audio with one's ear? Are we expected to use Airpods with this?

How will some video game controllers work with the phone? Will they just turn the device off when they put pressure on the top of the phone?

Would a kangaroo be able to use the device effectively without dropping it? And, more importantly, when the kangaroo does inevitably drop it, what does the Applecare+ bill look like?

Too many questions. Too few answers. Only time will tell.

What and achievement would be for Foxcon!.
Apple just pushes its suppliers with a graphic design, not with engineering design.
