I agree, looks like a mount. Very nice. I was contemplating doing the same but it's too permanent and I'm constantly re-arranging my office.

Yes, it is a mount. And smart thinking; I'm already thinking about changing things around but I like the idea of mounting the display so it doesn't take up much space on my desk.

Here is mine.

Question for the people who have their 24" hooked up to a MacBook Pro in closed lid mode:

Do your fans go frequently?

I ask because I use the 24" with my laptop lid closed, and it seems like the fans blow a lot--even when I am doing just keynote or it is idle.

I found this too and gave up and just opened the lid. I turn the LCD off sometimes if I'm not using it (using the brightness keys).

I have the same question about the fan running all the time when using the display with the laptop lid closed. Can the intense heat from the computer harm the laptop's display? I'm wary of doing processor intensive tasks like FCP and such. Also, is there a way to turn the laptop on without opening the lid? I want to buy one of those 'LapTuk Stands', but I think it will defeat the purpose if I have to take the laptop out from under it in order to turn it on... Any help is appreciated!

VESA Mount

To the person who did the VESA mount:

Is this the stock VESA mount kit from Apple? Do you have a part number on the VESA kit you used? Was it difficult to install? Staring at the back of the where the existing control arm goes into the back of the 24" ACD, I cannot see how you uninstall the current setup and install a VESA mount unless there is a special tool that goes back in there to unhook the existing setup.

Thanks in advance!

How to Set Up SPACES on the new 24" ACD

Can those of you using SPACES to setup multiple desktops share some screenshots and/or advice as to how you are setting it up? I would welcome some input and have not yet cranked up using Spaces. Any advice/screen shots as to best productivity would be great.

Thank you!

I personally set it up using:

1) All of the productivity apps that I need VM Fusion for
2) IM clients / Skype / along with a web browser and "take a break" apps like iTunes
3) Productivity apps I use in OSX (OmniPlan, Omni Outliner Pro, etc)
4) I keep 4 blank so far so I have a clean desktop to use when I end up manipulating files on the desktop or using programs not in 1-3

I only use the multiple desktops if I need a reference document open.

I'll try to answer all of your questions:

Yes, this is the stock one from Apple. They give you a bracket so that you replace your stand with it, and then use any industry standard VESA mount to mount it to the wall...so you need to parts. the one apple sells is: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB902ZM/A?mco=MTIxODk3Mw. I then used a cheap VESA mount for the other part that attaches to the wall.

Setting it up is really simple; I already had the mount attached to the wall, but installing the kit to the display takes about 10 min, doing it carefully and all...

You got the method right. The way you install is you insert a card (comes with the kit) into the top of the stand, and it pushes a lever behind the stand in, popping out the stand assembly. You then unscrew a couple of screws, and attach the kit. It's in the instructions, and really clear; you don't need to be a handyman to do it ;)

I don't have one of the new 24" displays, but I only use Spaces when my second monitor isn't connected. I have a 20" iMac (1680x1050) with a 17" Dell display (1024x1280) in portrait aspect beside it. I can't imagine why someone wouldn't have enough room on a 24" display, especially using the MacBook display as well.

Anyway, this is what Spaces looks like with multiple displays. My Dell display is somewhat shorter than my iMac, hence the offset.

Anyone here having problems with the MBA? I just returned my 24" LED ACD as mine and the store display were flickering black, freezing my MBA, and causing a kernel panic in clamshell mode.

Seems a serious firmware update is in order.

What desk is that?

Its the desk that you put together yourself from Ikea, its called the Galant.

I could even add additional round edges if I wanted to but I stopped there as it is more than enough space. I just love the spacing and now I'm eager to put a mac pro on that desk! C'mon Nehalem~~~
