I don't remember when, but it was about 5 or 6 years ago in Alpharetta, GA. I so hated that job. They spent one week training us before throwing us to the wolves. Yeah, I got out of there in a hurry.

1 week... that's brutal. We had 1 week in a classroom, then 2 in a small, managed area with 1 supervisor for every 3 people. THEN they threw you to the wolves. I quit the first day of the 4th week ;)

Just got my phone right now. I ordered it on Tuesday. Everything looks good so far. It comes with the cleaning cloth and 1.1.1 firmware. The phone looks brand new. I hope everything goes good with the phone:)

Where in the box was the cleaning cloth? These phones are old. Mine has firmware 1.0.1 (serial indicates 25th week of 2007). And no, Apple and AT&T obviously do not have the same standards for refurbishment.

My phone works fine on my wireless network (I agree that one should thoroughly check out the phone before unlock). My problem is this: I can't seem to get it into DFU mode for a firmware upgrade. I press and hold both the sleep/wake button and the home button for 10 seconds, and my iPhone appears to turn off. But I don't get the popup from iTunes about detecting recovery mode (I can get iTunes to offer to activate, though!).

Any suggestions?

ModNote: My apologies for catching this so late and merging these threads after Mike's already had forty posts... here is the MacRumors official post, buried on page 2. :)

No need to sign up for service when ordering. Just activate when you get it at home. Surprised this isn't posted.

I'm a newbie on this forum (I signed up last week). Anyway, first of all, I want thank the person who started this subject. I managed to get a refurb iphone from At&t on tuesday. Just received email notification from DHL that my phone was delivered at my home 20 minutes ago. Going home right now to check (I'm lucky, I only live ten minutes from home). report back later on the condition of phone.

It is in the little black booklet that contains the instructions. Hope that helps.

OMG... I'm in heaven... GOOD FRIDAY!

Also, I did not receive a cloth either. She's going into a case, straight away though, so no worries here! Off to jailbreak!

BEWARE:

I ordered my $249 refurb iPhone on the 18th, and received and activated it on the 20th with AT&T. I went to Apple's website under Support to verify my standard 1-year Apple warranty for the iPhone. It did not appear that way, instead my warranty said it will expire on Sep 8, 2008. OBVIOUSLY, AT&T did the whole refurb process (NOT Apple), and therefore Apple's support dtabase was not updated accordingly. Now I have to fax/mail my proof of purchase to Apple so that they can "hopefully" amend the start date of my 1-yr warranty. Shows you how much AT&T DOES NOT take the extra step to satisfy its customers.... :(

For those who just received theirs... go to Apple's website and verify your warranty coverage!! It should start this month, not when it was first sold as "new" to the original customer!

Mine is Jun 28 2008. Wow... so if i'm jailbreaking/unlocking/activating, should i bother purchasing applecare or no? The serial is already registered obviously... what do you all think?

It is only supposed to be a 90 day warranty according to ATT's site, so I would say you lucked out.

My big problem is now Unicel is going to be bought out by Verizon and that is the only GSM carrier in my area, so I hope that does not screw me over in a few months as I don't want to switch to CDMA.

But Sep 8, 2008 is still more than 90-days from March 18-20, 2008. (it's approx 6-months) So what gives??? Anyway, I contacted Apple... they told me to send/fax the proof of purchase and it wouldn't negatively impact my status according to them - if they can say "no" then it will remain as what is on their database currently. It's a 50/50 toss-up from this point on...

Just got mine, comes with everything the iPhone came with, including the cleaning cloth. Condition-wise it's in perfect condition.

EDIT:
Came with firmware 1.0.2

Mine expires on June 28, 2008. But here's the problem: when I called Apple, they wanted the phone number of my iPhone, which was not activated for ATT. Do you have an ATT phone number or something? As someone already noted, unlocking the iPhone voids the warranty!

Just got my refurbished iPhone from at&t. It's in a very "used" condition and I would by no means call it refurbished. There is white gunk in the button and the side cracks where the screen meets the case and the screen seems to be separating from the top of the unit.

Absolute shame, was really looking forward to this. I'm glad everyone else is getting better models though! Just watch out.

I'd SOOO be calling AT&T tomorrow/Monday and yelling at them... a lot... That sucks, bro.

Mine arrived today, and the quality is as I hoped it to be, it looks like new except for a small scratch in the aluminium at the side. The cloth was into the black plastic case (together with the manual and the sticker), the headphones seem to be new, the cable and the dock used, but in very good condition. All in all, I'm really happy with it. :)

Do you guys think a cover for it is really necessary? I read that the screen would be very resistant when it comes to scratches. Not sure about the backside, though...

I got the incase slider case in white. It is really really really nice. Doesn't add much bulk at all. The case is a little stingy to get off, but I can't really see myself taking it iff much now that it's on. Really a good case. Very highly rated on Apple's store too.

They got em in black too, and you can pick them up at the brick and mortar stores.

I ordered my $249 refurbish iPhone yesterday before 9AM PST.

I received my confirmation order right away after I placed the order yesterday.

I received my Order Confirmation with DHL tracking number 1Pm PST next day, today.

DHL indicated that I will get it this Friday :D

Received this $249 iPhone from DHL this afternoon. AT&T box and phone looks as new. Comes with all accessories and with 1.1.1 firmware.

Thanks for your reply, I was already thinking about that protector! How do you like the added screen protector, is that one good, too? I made good experiences with the invisibleShield, but I don't want to spend the extra money if it should not be necessary...

Yes I have a legit and official AT&T number (always had since I'm a current customer) and an official iPhone plan now (it just added $20 per month to my bill). So if they call me, they have no ammo regarding this, and I haven't jailbreak'd nor unlocked (no need to) my iPhone. Let's hope for the sake of all of us buying refurbs, that Apple will "take care" of us as gratitude and customer courtesy/service... but I won't lose sleep over it. So we'll see....

I don't use a screen protector, actually. The guy in the Apple store didn't, so I didn't waste my money!

No more?

I cannot find the refurb iPhones at the at&t web site anymore. Are they all gone?
After getting one for me and my wife and loving them, I thought to equip the whole family.

BTW, ours were both 1.1.2 and looked perfectly brand new.
Interestingly, the warranty check says mid December 2008 for the at&t activated one (a little over 9 months) and says not yet activated for the unlocked one, which is true at least for the time I had it. Both were purchased in an at&t store in a mall (same one per customer).

Sorted out my card issues finally!

But now the phone is still "backordered" but many people have said backordered then it ships within a few hours.. I'm hoping for my shipping confirmation soon!

They disappeared a few days ago, but I think they come and go because of the nature of them. Best to just check there as often as possible.

Mine (my wife's) arrived too. Perfect in every way. It had 1.1.1 installed. According to Apple's site, the warranty expires Oct 21, 2008.

I just filled the "update purchase date information" form, printed the cover letter, and will fax the proof-of-purchase on Monday. Let's see if they give me a one year warranty from the DOP. Otherwise, I'm not too upset about just 7 months warranty. I plan on eventually getting Applecare.

Regards,
