HA!
Worst. Rumor. Ever.
The first laugh of my day. Thank you Dernhelm. haha

Apple wouldn't release a cell phone with 25 song play capacity. Imagine Steve standing up there with a big shizzle eating grin and announcing a 25 song capacity phone. Ha.. that would be a laugh.

They're either going to release a phone with a as much as the smallest shuffle or much larger or they're going to announce some other product.

the limit is really easy to hack.

The overwhelming majority of people don't 'hack' things, however, if it is in software it can be done. If they do do this it will as anti climatic as the last round of product updates and apple will be looking a little bit sour. But the reference to the 1000 songs from the first ipod advert must be significant, video must be where they are going. But it is not long to wait now. Why isn't this happening on a Tuesday, won't that upset SJ with his near autistic adherence to preferred release days?

Aren't the cell phone operators going to charge people to transfer their own music on to their phones?

That and a possible 25 song limit makes the phone is a complete and utter waste of time. Also, due to the fact that its usa only... Apple should market this thing in Europe where the mobile phone market is waaay larger. Perhaps they did - and didn't get anywhere?

Crap battery life too, probably.

iSaber

You're all stupid.

Apple is going to announce iSaber and all Mac users who purchase it will become Jedi. All loyalists will become Jedi Masters. This will be the start of the new switch campaign to defeat the window user or sith. It's so obvious. I can't believe you're all too stupid to figure it out.

I'm so sick of this phone, I just want it to come out so rumors about it will stop.

here here.... stupid phone... whats the big deal.. i have 1GB of music on my treo... this phone is going to suck... its a stupid gimmick for people who don't get it... none of you will want it!

i can't wait until we can stoip talkiing about it!

my biggest worry isn't song count

...it's power. my phone battery doesn't last that long just with negotiating the network, let alone listening to music regularly. it'd have to have at least 8 hours power time with both functions without powering up

Stupid. Motorola's been working with Apple for so long, and this looks (along with the Q and Pebl) to be among their best attempts at regaining all that lost market share from Nokia. No way would they botch a chance like this. The field is open for an MP3-playing phone, and 25 songs = nail in the coffin.

LOL. Ummm 25 songs...right... Worst idea EVAR.

I think it will be something that is cooler than the phone, with all the hype...man it would be sweet if it was a tablet style device, that's what I really want. At the very least I wish they would come out with iTunes 5 and give it a new look, the gui of iTunes is really boring if you ask me, and I think it could use a make over.

I for one am excited to see what it will be, and if it is just a phone, well I'm not going to get all pissed off about it or anything, whatever...

But, I bet it will be something unexpected and all the grumpy faces will be happy again. Have a little faith. :D

I just think it's funny that you guys are all upset over something that hasn't even happened yet.

(oh, right... sorry, forgot where I was for a second) :p

There's a much simpler explanation for a 25-song artificial limit.

To prevent employees from stealking engineering samples. This cripples the phone in such a way that it can be tested and demonstrated, but will make it unattractive to any real user.

They can quickly remove the limit before the unit goes into production.

Of course, I could be wrong about all this.

I'm just going to tape my iPod mini onto my cell phone.

Why not let Samsung or LG design the phone? Motorola makes the WORST phones EVER!

Apple brings out the bad in Moto. Other than Moto's poor u/i and all those good times with the G4, this could be up there...if true.

That said, I have Sprint, so this phone is a worthless rumor to me. Bring on new Airport Expresses!

or Simens - they just look so good.

25 songs- is this like 100MB. Pehaps it is just a low end phone or a demo version only.

There is a rumor of Apple making 2 or 4BG shuffles so they should at least have 1GB iPhones.

Rumors, rumors, rumors....six days till we learn the truth. :D

iVideo

Here in the UK the PSP is just being launched today, which makes me think......... I'd like one, but I think I'll wait until next week's announcement. I'd much prefer to download a movie via iTunes, rather than buy a UMD disc..

I'm still waiting for AACplus. CD-quality sound at only 48-64Kbps.

I was stunned it didn't make it onto the Shuffle. The Shuffle could have been double capacity. Maybe the appropriate silicon hasn't existed up to this point.

I bet Steve Jobs is sat there reading this and laughing his head off.

It's well known that Steve gets baked and then comes over to MacRumors for entertainment.

According to this article from PC Magazine...

Unlike an iPod, the number of tracks that the phone can play is based on a deliberate firmware limitation, rather than being based on the available memory in the device, that source said.

(He did not divulge the number of tracks the phone could hold, but said it was fewer than an iPod Shuffle; the Shuffle holds from 120 to 240 songs, depending on the model.)

Motivation for the limitation? Greed. I believe Apple doesn't want to give up one square inch of it's shuffle market and will shoot itself in the foot not to do so.

*sigh*

It might not be all??

I had the sudden notion that perhaps, if the phone is limited to a certain number of songs, the idea is not that we can move them anywhere easily?

New iTunes concept?

New DRM?

Subscription service, anyone? Much like the 'Get-It-Now' thing that I hate so much (so-and-so-an amount per month for ringtones?!) with my Verizon service.

The phone may not be the main reason for the event. :p

Well 25 songs is just laughable.

I think it really hobbles their efforts to bring iTunes onto mobile devices.

However, considering the success of the iPod shuffle, if they get their marketing right, 25 songs (aka no screen in iPod shuffle land), will be a feature since you can <insert super-marketed ridiculous feature, that no-one usually considers a FEATURE, here> (see shuffle in iPod shuffle land)!

Good luck!

Then again, what other phone offers a 25 song capacity with a nice iTune package to wrap it up?
Maybe that's the perspective we're supposed to take... <enter the marketing machine>

Probably NOT...

Exactly! How stupid do you guys think Apple is? There's no way Apple is introducing a phone with a 25 song limit. My theory is, the Moto Cell is a rumor designed to distract from Apple's true revolutionary service: Apple Cell, a complete Verizon licensee featuring Apple's own cell phones...and Moto is left to flounder on its own...wouldn't be the first time, right?

How foolish can you be to underestimate the Power of Steve's Reality Distortion Field. All of you are knocking the ludicrousy of a 25 song limit now, but come September 7th, you'll be wondering why it hadn't dawned on you that 25 songs was the revolution.

Steve is going to announce that, after long research into what was wrong with the current market, Apple has found that what consumers want is less music. 25 songs in your pocket is so much more compact and concise. Apple is going to revolutionise the way we listen to two-dozen tracks.
Less is the new more.
