Yeah, but it is such a horrible consequence of iOS updates that I’d make sure it is as well-optimised as possible for the oldest supported device.

It is absolutely obvious and annoying when it happens. I’ll go as far as to say that I don’t know how people tolerate it.

I always run original iOS versions and never update, but I’m so annoyed by it when I use an older, updated device.
There are unfortunately showstoppers to remaining on the original iOS version. Safari on iOS 15 shows most websites as “unsafe” for me, requiring two or three extra taps on each page refresh, I believe because the certificate root stores are outdated. Also some banking apps I use require iOS 16 or newer.

I run my devices exactly as I would in real life and then I tell Apple if I experience any issues. That’s what a beta test is: a small sample of real world users.
You don’t tell Apple „if you experience any issue“ lol
You file separate feedback reports for each problem you encounter.
You said yourself you didn’t see the need to report anything, so how do you tell Apple about your experience?

Do you have any experience of real dev? A nil response is considered good. I didn’t have any issues because I didn’t go looking for any.
When I’m ready from one of my databases at work to be tested by users, it’s already been thoroughly tested by professional testers. For the month it’s in beta, if we’ve done our jobs properly, I want to hear nothing.

Yeah, the biggest one is compatibility. Things will inevitably start to break, apps will stop working, websites will load a blank page, etc.

It’s not for everyone. But I like to use good devices for years on end. So I have to do this.

Really? Oh no. Oh, no, no, no... Anyway. Really looking forward to it and will install soon as it's available this morning and enjoy it. Keep looking for things, looks like you're having fun with it.
As seen in post 4, I am not going out of my way to see these things.

Fair enough. There are a few rough edges here and there, but by and large, I don't have any complaints. Should it be more polished at this point? Sure. is it a disaster in my eyes, or whatever, not hardly.

What I want to know is if there are any major functionality issues in iOS 26. Every year I see people complaining about minor UI issues as if they were huge problems and ignore the major functionality breaking bugs. Just a few examples from the past 2 years:

1. iOS 17 broke searching for messages. Fixed in 17.2.
2. iOS 18 broke IMAP Mail as in people couldn’t get their mail. For me it just broke background fetching of mail. Fixed in 18.3.
3. It seems like every other iOS release breaks Safari iCloud tabs which then takes months to fix.

I’m just wondering what iOS 26 will break.

I found what broke this year. Every copy/paste I make between apps is showing the "allow paste" prompt on my iPad since upgrading it to iPadOS 26.
