Hi guys, purchased my Imac 27" last tuesday, I am in the military so I do not have time to go to apple each day and complain, it's my first replacement due to a yellow screen and dead pixels in the isight, I have noticed that this new replacement once you let the computer on around 1 to 2 hours you start noticing the warm colors on the bottom half of the screen.

I just open Google's home page and start moving the window up and down and I can tell the difference, my question to everybody here on the forum is, if we are having this issues with this product, should we wait until the new iMacs arrive or what should I do because I do not have time and patience due to my work, because if I go to the store they will replace it but, I'll probably have the same issue again, and the apple "genius" told me I have 14 days to return or exchange the iMac after the day I purchased.

HELP anyone?

So, for those who are genuinely suffering from this "issue" then maybe the route to go, if your iMac is good in every other way, is to hold onto your machine for the time being and when / if Apple remedy this problem then get the screen replaced. That way the replacement screen will be good as it should be outside of the Shanghai manufacturing plants supply chain and will be totally scrutinised to ensure that the problem is not present in a repair job.

It seems simply by returning iMacs and getting replacements is no guarantee of a yellow tinge free iMac. Even if Apple never officially acknowledge there had been a screen problem if it's that visually obvious then you're assured of a replacement screen with no argument.

As a side note, I would recommend anyone buying this "Rev A" iMac to pay the extra for Applecare as it really isn't that uncommon for "Rev A" products to have issues not only in the here and now but also in the future.

return, refund...

wait..

Apple have such a small install base (%) that these issues could go on for ages without really being big news.

I suspect that Apple ARE knowingly selling faulty machines, just to get the cash in for this quarter and will then attempt to fix it in the new year.

but... truth is..... these are cheaply made and assembled computers in China. Using standard parts to give Apple their ridiculous margins....

the only way Apple will fix this quickly ..or think twice about doing it again..is if you guys... the apple buying public........

stop buying...

*sigh*...
Understand that I am by no means a fanboy, but lets look at the facts here.

An install base that exceeds 75 million users is perhaps statically small, until you consider the calibre of the users. I'll say no more on that issue in this thread.

As for common parts being used, you really don't understand the benefit that a common hardware platform brings to the software developers do you? I'm not even going to address the implied China slur...

Are you honestly insinuating that *the* most affluent technological company in the world is purposely and willfully shipping it's flagship product with faulty components? (Conspiracy much?)

OK, so there is an issue with some hardware units. How many of you who reported this issue to Apple have not had the issue taken care of? There is a reason that this company has ranked #1 in customer service worldwide for eight years running, and it is not because they are shipping substandard products and ignoring their customers.

Just for the record, I also have a week 50 machine with a warm yellow tint in the lower right hand corner. And guess what, I'm waiting to see if it is a screen issue that fades over time (it has already improved since I received the unit). However I remain confident that when I do choose to call Apple for support I will be dealt with by a trained support professional, and that Apple will resolve the issue to my satisfaction.

If you purchased a 27" iMac and you have screen issues, deal directly with Apple for the repair. If you aren't satisfied with the first person you talk to ask to talk to someone else, if THEY don't make you happy ask to talk to someone else. I promise that at the end of the call Apple will have done what they can to make you happy.

CRAP, did I just feed a troll?

Hello all..

I have just today received my replacement iMac 27" i7 because the first one had the yellow tint issue. I am sorry to report that my new machine also has the issue although it isn't as bad as on my first machine, in fact it isn't very noticeable at all, all the same it still exists.

The first machine was a week 48 and this one is a week 51. I am disappointed that I still have what I consider to be a faulty machine but am unsure what to do about it now? Should I put up with it until the issue has been recognised and addressed and then contact Apple support again to organise a replacement?

Thanks

21.5" Ati

Recieved my week 49 21.5 Ati standard config today and did the test. After looking long and hard I really couldn't see any yellow. The only thing i noticed was 1 dead pixel in my iSight camera which isn't an issue at all for me.

This is also my first ever mac so having a problem free one is great :)

I think I just figured this one out...
See it has to do with the size of the screen and the red shift from the light coming from the top of the screen due to the increased distance the light has to travel to reach the viewer. The only problem is that the calculations were started in meters and finished in inches, causing the unbalanced light color on the screen...
The fix of course is to recalculate the light color using the correct formulas...
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I like this, but seriously, I have no knowledge of LCD screen technology. Does anyone have a reason why this yellow tinge would be happening. ?

My theory is some Chinese official executive decided to substitute some cheaper parts in the display and pocketed some money. I have heard of this happening to other companies, such as milk and pet food ingredient suppliers. :D;)

I am glad that Apple sent it out even with the yellow gradient on the screen, I much more like working on this one rather than my older iMac. Aperture and CS4 run like lightning and I have been able to get my work done in half the time. I have calibrated the screen with Spyder3 and it holds the calibration very well, so when they get this yellow tinge gradient fixed I think it will be an excellent display.

Just got my replacement

Just received my replacement (wk 51, Shanghai, China), and this one is worse! It has even more pronounce yellow than my current display. I don't see how anyone couldn't notice it.

Looks like I'll be calling Apple fore either another one, or if they will allow a later replacement when it's all taken care of. Let's hope this issue is seriously addressed.

What week is the new one? 51? 50?

Mine a week 51 has much less yellow than the first one. But I've only used it for 20 minuters, done the test on macrumors and for me it's okay now, unless it's going to be worse if I use it more.

Just keep returning them.

Eventually they will get tired of all the returns and just fix the dang yellow tinted displays.

Seriously it looks like someone urinated on my display.

Week 47, 27" Core 2 Duo, slight yellow tinge at the bottom, although almost invisible when doing regular work on the Mac.

It doesn't really bother me that much to be honest. You're not comparing two grey bars all day normally are you? However, if it does become worse I will send it in for a repair, or if something ever goes wrong on this Mac, and it needs a repair, I'll tell the guys at the store to fix the tinge too (I hope they do come up with a fix soon though).

If they come up with a fix before the end of the holidays I might send it back in, but I don't want a replacement, seeing I've already migrated everything from my PC and don't wanna go through all that again.

I can miss my computer for a few days anyway. All I need is my iPhone and one of the laptops I have lying around here for work.

Now that I start looking at it, the tinge really goes halfway across the screen. Might wanna send it in a little sooner then.

But I'm really wondering if there is no way to calibrate this tinge or something. Must be possible (but I'm not a developer or anything, so I don't really know...)

Well I just got my RMA and FedEx return stickers. I have to say I'm pretty bummed out. I really, really love my iMac 27" i7 blah blah... but its broken.

I could almost tolerate the slight yellow tint and a few dead pixels but the black out and screen freezing is just too much. Good luck!

Dare I ask if you installed the firmware update?

FYI, I had a yellow tinge problem for which I am waiting for my replacement i7 to arrive this week. I installed the firmware update earlier today and the yellow tinge is no longer here. It was present today before I decided to install the update. I will keep using the computer and let you guys know how it turns out. Even if you don't have a flicker problem, it might be worth installing the firmware update.

not you say that your computer was perfect? You too have a problem with yellow tinge? for my iMac it did not help

These monitor issues are not surprising at all. Do you guys really think you're getting a premium monitor with those specs at that price. You get what you pay for and as always with Apple it's not much. These monitors are crap and over time they will all have issues.

Yeah I can't make sense of why this worked and it could very well be a placebo effect, so I don't want to jump the gun. But thought I should share it. I'm still good with no tinge on all white background as well as gray. This very well could not even be related since the yellow tinge is periodic for some of us, however I had it this whole afternoon before installing the update.

Dude chill out. You do realize that Apple does not manufacture its own screens or computer hardware, right? I think LG makes some of the nicest screens/monitors around now.

If you don't own an Apple computer and hold the company and its products in such low regard, why are you a member of and posting to these forums?

Is someone holding a gun to your head or do you just get thrills from trolling?

Oh, and the testicular pouch is actually spelled 'scrota' (or scrotum), not scroto.

Don't bother feeding the obvious troll.

That issue has been and gone, thanks to the software update.

Correction: I just installed the "new" update. I really hope you're right, actually I really hope the update works more than anything. I don't know why Apples tech support didn't mention the update when I called in.
