Just recived my 27" iMac 27" from Powermax. Interesting story though.

I am in the process of trading in my Early 1st Gen Mac Pro, and rather than wait for the trade in process to be complete (6-8 weeks) I chose to go ahead and order a new 27" iMac (Core i7) with 8GB Ram. At the time I orderd I was told that there was a 2-3 week wait on the i7's I was in no real hurry so the wait was on.

About a week later they called me to let me know that they got a shipment in however they were models with wired keyboard and mice. I informed them that I wanted the wireless option with the Magic Mouse, they said no problem they would swap out the wired for the wireless, I agreed.

5 Days later I received my new iMac, and from what I can tell with the exception that the seal was broken for them to install the additional ram and swap out the wireless keyboard and mouse, it looks new.

After reading this topic, I though I would do the test. Look ok to me, although my eyes may be playing tricks its look yell more so in the middle of the screen from top to bottom. So I took a few picutres. Have a look and let me know what you think.

Let me know if you have any other questions or comments about my purchase through PowerMac please.

That looks very nice. You're good to go :)

I can break out my Pantone Huey and my Sypder 2 Pro and do some comparisons in different locations of the screen that will better determin if there are any differences in the color of the screen. Not sure if anyone thought of that yet?

I think you have a nice screen.

My replacement kind of looks like yours

I think there is slight warming towards the bottom of the screen but it is not yellow.

I think I am going to keep the one I have because I have little faith in getting a better one.

I can tell that the bottom of the screen is definitely warmer than the top of the screen.

I compared this to my cinema display and it appears the opposite. Whites are whiter towards the bottom and darker on the top.

I think I can live with this as long as there is no yellowing.

My return period has expired with no problems becoming apparent on the screen. It's interesting how, since that return period has passed, I'm not even looking to check it anymore. Just getting on with my projects.
Everything's fine and working beautifully, and if a problem comes up, I have Applecare to sort it.
I'm content and I'm sure many thousands of others are too. I hope everyone who's experienced problems gets to this point too. I couldn't wish for a quieter, smoother, speedier, more pleasant-to-use computer.

Ok so they cannot fix my iMac i7 problems at Cancom in Edinburgh :(

They tried a new screen at first still back light issues so a new backlight board followed no fix there so finally they tried a cable but alas still no fix so gonna have to send it back to Apple.

Called Apple they are going to send another one out. My 3rd now. So original order on the 11th Nov still no working new iMac and I see the shipping for the i7 is now 3 weeks :(

Should I ask for compensation??

Do they do this "test" with the customer present at the unsealing? I wouldn't want to buy a new computer that a shop has already unwrapped, pre-tested and re-boxed.

It's packaged after testing, they said apple does all testing.

I took my 21.5" imac to the Apple store and they agreed that it has a slight yellow tint on the right hand side and a small area in the centre. They suggested I call Apple care and notify them, which I did. Apple agreed it was a hardware problem(after having me inserting the OS disk) and agreed to fix it or replace. I elected to hang on to the unit until a proper fix is found. The lady suggested I call back periodically which I intend to do. Mine is a week 47 unit.

There are no other issues with it other than the slight yellow tint, but having said that, I just noticed yesterday that when the screen dims it is flickering ever so slightly. Not sure if this is the back lighting or what, or even whether this is normal.

Anybody else noticed this?

Cheers,

Very slight warming of color towards bottom

I have a 27" i7 iMac built in week 46 in the W8 facility in Shanghai. To be honest, I didn't even know about this issue until reading about it in the press and then investigating the Apple support and Mac Rumors forums.

Tonight I ran the test and had to convince myself that there was an oh so subtle warming of color temperature toward the bottom of the display. There also appears to be some blotchiness to that effect as well. It is definitely there, though.

I am not happy about this, given the $4,000+ I shelled out for this rig (2.8 GHz Quad Core and 16 GB RAM).

I just got off the phone with AppleCare where the representative acknowledged the known issue and informed me that refunds would be made or the displays will be replaced. He took my contact information and told me I would be contacted. I really don't want a refund assuming there will be a fix. I also don't want to risk getting a display that is worse than what I have.

I have a Week 11 20" and the yellow issue just appeared today, unless I've been going crazy..

Colorimeter testing

Well, I decided to get some objective data, since (as mentioned in my prior post) the change at the bottom of the screen is very subtle to the naked eye.

I placed my Datacolor Spyder 3 Elite colorimeter over a white test patch and measured the color temperature at the top right of the monitor which was 6546K.

I then repeated the same measurement at the bottom right corner with the same test patch. It read 6198K which is, as I suspected warmer and toward the yellow side. The variance is about 5.3% which seems to me to be greater than it ought to be. I am no expert in displays, but I would guess that a 5% variance is not within specs for this display. Has anybody else taken measurements? Does anyone know what the acceptable variance is for the display?

What are we looking at?
That the top yellow vertical stripe is much darker yellow than the bottom one?
That the whole right side is pink?
That no individual colored panel on that screen is of uniform color even across its own individual width?
Can you explain the kaleidoscopic range of colors in the pic and what we are supposed to glean from them?
Thanks.

I think I may have a yellow tinge...

Maybe I am being super paranoid, but I am thinking my third replacement is also displaying signs of the yellow tinge. It seems to be gradual starting around the end of the 2/3 of the screen and is most predominant along the bottom of the screen and right hand corner. It is a week 02 and I just received it.

If I compare it to my Macbook Pro, it definitely looks a dirty yellow. It would be great to get some input so I can call Apple tomorrow and arrange another replacement.

In the third image, I can clearly see the yellow tinge.

So are you saying that six of those seven images display no yellow tinge?
Does it follow then, that if you were told each of those images was of a different iMac, you'd declare six of them fine and not needing return?

What do you make of all the horizontal gray bars being dark on their left extremity, lighter in the middle and then a different dark tone again on the right? Are they not useless tonal representations of what we know was really on-screen? Or does that not matter?

Well, according to your own theory, the other pictures must be from screens held upside down :D

Hmm looks like I got it too on my 27 as well. Other then that, the machine is perfect. Perhaps I can ask Apple to replace the screen for me instead of an outright replacement.

That's my idea also. My i5 is perfect apart from the yellow tinge. I decided to wait until Apple solves the problem and then have my i5 repaired.

Been living with a wk52 replacement now for 2 weeks after unpacking my first wk51 and seeing a very drastic yellowing as pointed out in my last post.

This one is slightly warmer towards the bottom and the transition is is pretty gradual, looks related to the light bleeding. Considering I don't want to go through the hassle of another replacement, plan on sticking with this and watching if there's a fix in the future.

Of note, both machines have had WD drives and I haven't experienced any other screen issues.

That is the most pathetic display I have ever seen. From looking at it, I'd think your computer was about 20 years old and about to die. Get it fixed! Doesn't it bother you, or is it not that apparent unless you are trying to view a solid color or 2?
