You guys crack me up. The first post shows this picture:

That to me has OBVIOUS pink tinge on the right screen. I think people have a better tolerance of pink than yellow if you ask me. :D

Yup my second (and final) iMac 27 had strong yellow on the lower half and strong pink in the upper right corner.

Probably right about that. I'd prefer the screen on the right to the one on the left. Although those screens are fairly different in color, they seem to be pretty consistent among themselves. It is interesting seeing 2 of the same models side by side.

Just curious, has anybody ever done this set-up with the Apple 24" displays? Do you guys think those displays would be more similar to each other in terms of color cast? You would hope so considering the price, surely they are using a higher quality panel? Still considering the 27" iMac or a mini with 2 displays.

I'm still deciding what to do with mine. I don't think it is that bad and it is the best one that I have had so far so I may just stick with it.

As long as you feel it's okay and there is no any other problem, keep it. Otherwise, call for a replacement. BTW, I saw the yellow in all your photos.

Hey everyone...

Just unpacked my 27" iMac today.. Ordered 4th January, Shipped 10th January, Delivered 14th January to Malaysia. I couldn't open it up earlier as I was away in Australia.

It's a week 2 i7/2TB (Hitachi)/4GB... Screen looks good to me, I hope it stays this way.. The following pictures are taken after the computer has been switched on for about 8 hours, at 100% brightness.

Looks good...:)
Maybe I should upgrade to a 27"? Money is not a problem its more a space issue for me. But having no luck with the 21.5, I think I may look into a 27".

27" iMac Week 51 no tinge

Just wanted to note that a friend of mine has bought a new iMac 27 inch.
I went to check it out, the screen was perfect! Then I looked at system profiler and saw that it was a Week 51 model.

My iMac is a Week 46 model with slight yellow tinge, but seeing my friend's iMac, I decided I want a replacement.

Now that's a nice screen. :) Enjoy your machine.

Well WilliamG, what happened to "All screens have yellow tinges!"?

I know this is about the Imacs, but I wanted to mention I just bought a 15.4 inch 2.53 unibody antiglare macbook pro. It has the same exact problem as described here, the lower 1/4 of the screen is yellowish. I noticed it right away and then found this thread.

Further research shows that this was a big problem back in 2007 on the macbook pros, but I didn't find any info about this coming back on the new unibodies. Hopefully I just received an isolated problem, and the new one will be perfect.

Apple is exchanging it for a new one, but it will be awhile since it is shipping from China. By the way, I did not feel that the phone support was very good. Since this appears to be a very common problem on the Imacs, the support people should have been more responsive about my problem. They kept asking me if it was a film on top of the screen, and then finally the third person understood the issue. If the second one is bad, do I just keep exchanging?

Your screen looks very good. I checked this photo in Photoshop and got the best values for R,G,B.

Are you kidding?

I can easily see the yellow tinge in his screenshots. So my statement remains. The yellow is obvious to me (if we're being super ANAL as lots of you are) in the grey shots, and REALLY obvious in his blue ones. Some of them look like... ahem... a cat pissed on the screen..

I can quite easily seen screen streaks in these images, too - like black splodges - in the center of the screen.

Would I be happy with this display? Yep! Cause it's within spec. But NO SCREEN IS PERFECT, so stop kidding yourselves and wasting Apple's time replacing these units. Just get your money back already...!

Thank you for actually taking the time to post decent photos. Most people who recieve a good screen wouldn't bother to even let us know, givng an unrealistic view that just about every screen is affected.

Very jealous at how fast you received your iMac & the fact it seems perfect, you're very lucky - enjoy!

So my statement remains.
His photo's with grey and white backgrounds are not showing any tints. Your argument that ALL lcd's look like some of the faulty lcd's that are shown in this topic is still complete and utter nonsense.

I could live with a small yellow tint, I did not pay 10000 dollar for an iMac. But a screen that is 50% yellow and 50% white is just insane. No one has to accept that from Apple. Same reason why I eventually returned my 24" iMac with it's ugly brown corners and gradients. Those screens (4 iMacs) were hideous.

If my wk52 27" i5 has any yellowing issues, I have to look so hard for it that I might be imagining any yellow I see. In other words, there is nothing which is easy to perceive and I'm extremely pleased.

It has been in service for a few weeks now.

That said, I'm sure it's not perfect and I don't care. I've rarely seen a consumer display which was perfectly balanced and uniform in color and backlighting. If you're a professional and really need a perfect monitor for color accuracy, you should probably be buying a standalone from EIZO and paying a premium for it. This iMac is a 27" bargain with a gorgeous screen and it seems like some of people are just nitpicking.*

*Keep in mind that I acknowledge that some of the screens in question are grossly imbalanced and should be returned. I am lucky to have a very good one, but simply wanted to make a point to the others that if you don't see a problem, why look hard for one?

If it's not bothering you, great, be happy with your machine. :D But don't tell others that they just should accept it, that they are nitpicking or that they just should ask their money back.

I'm sorry, but I have to look at the screen, so why are you telling me I should just live with it. Why should only professionals have the right to complain about this issue? I don't like p*ss yellow screens just as much as a professional.

I'd count this as a kneejerk reaction, considering I wrote this in my post:

See what I did there? I said that some people are having legitimate problems that they shouldn't settle for and was directing my post at those who really had to look for a problem to even know there was one. So if you have a particularly bad/yellow display, then I wasn't talking to you at all, Captain Rolleyes.

I disagree. I can see a slight yellow tint on whites, and an obvious yellow tint on blue. If it's there on blue it's obviously ALWAYS there. And yes, ALL LCDs will have some degree of tint. THAT is my argument. HOW much tint is dependent on the production line/panel variance.

I must have said this a million times on these boards, and some of you realize this to be true, and others will keep denying it till the cows come home...

Every monitor I own has a sort of tint.
My ACD 23" goes on the pinkish while my MBP goes on the yellowish.

I dont really care since once calibrated you really can't tell.
I will certainly keep my 27" iMac unless something is seriously broken (once I receive it).
