Imac 27" I7 just arrived today week 49

I have yellow tint on the lower right side!

Had my wife who is a graphic designer look and agree. I am a first time mac buyer and very disappointed.

The yellowing is slight and I use it for IT work but not graphic or web design. The OP mentioned that the yellowing could continue to increase, which worries me.

If the yellowing didn't increase I could live with it. But if it will get worse I would rather deal with it now.

What should I do next, call Apple care?

Any help is appreciated!!

I'm in the same boat. I just don't know how bad it will get if I just leave it alone right now. I can deal with it right now, but I don't know if I can deal with the fact that it will get worse. I'm afraid if I get another machine then the yellowness will be just as bad or worse. I have a Genius appointment tomorrow morning and I don't know if I should go or not.

Also...if anyone brought their machine back is it safe to assume that they will exchange my machine out and should I go there with a clean installation. I don't want to keep all my files, pictures, etc. on the machine if they end up taking it back.

I just can't imagine that it'll get worse. These uniformity issues don't usually change over time. If you can live with it then I wouldn't take a chance of getting one that's worse.

I wouldn't have known about this had i not stumbled across the issue being reported in several places on the web. I too (week 46, I7) appear to suffer fro this issue. I wonder if this truly is a hardware defect, because if it is then indeed I would return my Imac ... but there is enough time for that so I prefer to wait until that is confirmed. I am still hoping that they can address this with alternate methods, even though that sounds unlikely (i must admit)

I'm waiting on a 27" i5 (ordered through apple website). Does the 14 days to return and get a new one start from when you receive the computer from TNT, and not from the order date?

What happens after the 14 days? Does it mean they wont' give you a new imac if the yellow tinge issue appears?

So has anybody got more news from apple or whatever for a solution to this problem ?

Im not bothered by it that much because i dont use certain app's that have to be just right colour but i am a bit mad because i paid this money for it and i want a perfect model !

So i think its best to wait untill they come with some fix or something so i can get it repared or returnt it for another one. i dont want to return it and get an even worse version. like some stories here.

To be honest i'm thinking about temporary canceling my order. The main reason that I ordered the 27" is/was the screen.

I have an older 2007 20" imac with the "gradient" problem that I really really hate, especially when doing graphics stuff.

When I saw this claim on the apple website

The iMac display is designed to look great from almost any angle. A technology called in-plane switching (IPS) makes this possible. Whether you’re sitting in front of the display or standing off to the side, you’ll get a perfect picture with superb color consistency and no loss of detail.
http://www.apple.com/imac/design.html

or things like the "ultimate display" , I've started cutting every corner to save money so I could buy one.

But now seeing that there is another problem with color inconsistency I'm very reluctant not to cancel my order and just wait when (or if) they fix this problem. For this kind of money you can't expect anything less then high quality especially if they market the thing with the "ultimate display".

my imac 27 core 2 duo arrived 2 days ago with no yellow tinge. at least i didn't notice at first. now i notice it. its very very slight but its there. however im not going to exchange it for now. i enjoy this computer, its still awesome the screen, far better from any other screen i had. movies are great experience and you wont notice the yellow unless you want to :)

so no, im not exchanging it righ now. if i have a problem later, i will ask apple to replace the screen panel, or whatever it causes the yellow tinge, but right now it's not enough to make me wanna change it. i hope it doesn't get worse. that way i will call apple warranty.

Just for shoots and grins, I just tried tapplox's test on my 2009 13" unibody MacBook and could definitely see differences between the shade of the top bar and bottom bar. It was very noticeable, but then again, we already know that the original aluminum MacBook does not a have a great screen. (the unibody MacBook Pro has a much nicer screen)

No problems, no issues. Got mine delivered within the first batch that was going out. iMac i7 Quadcore.

Sorry to hear about your problems.

Argh i believe i have it too. It's very, very subtle, I'm sure I can live with it, but I don't want it to get any worse!

Tried it on my MacBook Pro 13" No yellowing at all. Wish my imac looked that good:)

So utterly disappointing.

I am back from an interesting experience at the Mac store, and with a machine (week 47) that has a worse yellow tinge issue than my week 46. The "Genius" all but called me a liar for he couldn't see the Yellow Tinge at first. I showed him a picture and a video of the yellow tinge on my iPhone, and he accused me, of having possibly changed the shade of white in the picture etc. Only after about 15 minutes of sitting there, did my wife notice the screen turning yellow, and indeed, the yellow become pronounced, and was even visible in the bright store.

Seeing this, he hemmed and hawed, but finally agreed to give me a replacement. A week 47 machine. I politely requested again and again for a week 41 (as ALL the machines in the store, without a tinge were 41), but he flat out refused, and threatened to charge me a restocking fee if they brought out a replacement from the back and I didn't accept it. I politely stated that the week number is written on the box, and they wouldn't have to open it, but by that time, he just wasn't having any of it. I didn't want to make a scene, so I just took my replacement machine and came back home.

And here it is - Yellow Tinge is even more pronounced, and worse than ever. It is just so sad to be treated like this by Apple associates. I have decided against keeping this machine, and I'll be sending it back for a full refund. It is not representative of the company I know, but it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

said to hear it.... hope it does'nt hapen to me...
But i'm curious; why do you think the week 41 imacs are problem free?
Did they change something? Are the first ones with a different screen?

I honestly wouldn't know. I spent a lot of time on each machine, checking and testing them, and couldn't see the problem on the week 41 machines. The gray blocks are uniform in color, and the whites were uniform etc. So yeah I couldn't tell you why it is so, but that was my experience. Seems like the week 45,46,47 iMacs have the problem most pronounced.

I have it but to even see it, I have to jump through so many hoops, its hardly worth doing anything about........Yet. Also a 48 week iMac.

Squint, tilt my head, look at grey bars, top and bottom, look at a pure white background. (basically things I never do in the real world)

I have to really compare upper left corner with lower right to see anything and even then its very faint. (just enough to bug me) In the real world. Using PS or LR. "where color accuracy may matter" i don't even see it.

I should just stop reading these forums. I wouldn't have even really noticed it otherwise.

Its like you buy a new car and you have had it for a while you really like it. Then your friend points out that your left door is a lighter shade then the right door. At first your like, whatever, but then the more you think about it and compare the two doors you notice how off they are and now your perfect car has an imperfection that no one will really ever see or notice.......But you will.

Exactly. Technology isn't perfect and it likely never will be. So why worry about something that will have very little / no affect on you.

I understand if your problem is very pronounced, but a slight tint in an LCD... silliness. Take them for the amazing machines that they are and stop worrying.

I've just arranged to get a refund, I see no point in asking for a replacement unit at this stage as I don't believe that any (new) iMacs currently exist with colour consistency across the screen. I'll wait until I see one in the stores with before I purchase again.. but who knows how long that will be...

Sad, but I agree. However my wife sees no problem with ours so its staying. She loves it. She knows how to get by these "trivial" things as she calls them:)

21.5 " Yellow

I have 27" looks great and is quiet.. I have tried 3 21.5" to get a monitor that will look the same as the 27.. which is very white.. not very yellow like the 21.5.. My second yellow was from week 45.. my current yellow is week 47.. any ideas about production weeks not affected?

Our iMac arrived last week. Didn't notice the yellowing until last night, which disturbed me but I thought it was my imagination. Stumbled across this thread and after taking the test it absolutely is yellowish at the bottom. Seems like the left side is worse than the right side.
serial number starts with W8946

How do I adjust contrast/colors to exaggerate this yellowness, just so i can confirm its there?

I'm in the exact same boat. Mine is pretty slight but it's there for sure (lower-right). I just wouldn't have noticed it otherwise and assumed it the lighting in my crappy basement office.

Week 48 here. I think I will just hang onto it, I bought Applecare and if it really gets bad I'll bring it in.
