iMac 21.5"

I have a week 44 21.5 inch Mac and looks like I dont have the yellow tinge problem

I'm not doing anything unless Apple lets me hang on to my current computer until the new one arrives. I can't be without a machine for another two weeks

Apple's policy seems different from country to country. But in Japan, it's absolutely alright to keep your machine till you finish setting up the new one provided that you bought your machine directly from apple online store and they have a way to charge you in case you don't return the unit.

No. People report there is no problem. Doesn't mean they are without the problem. You can't confuse the two. Plus, I've only seen a few report "no problem" so what if most of them are wrong? We don't need to prove there is a yellowing problem as it's pretty evident. But they do need to prove they don't have the problem.

Example: Someone in one of the dozen yellowing threads said "I don't see any problem" and subsequently posted several images of their screen. I saw the yellowing as plain as day. So we can't really count on reports of "no problem" being accurate and should first consider them a false negative. False negatives seem very easy to happen in this case.

So no, chances are that a replacement is WITH the yellow tinge, at least right now. Also, of those who have received replacements for this problem, I don't think I've seen a single one report "No yellowing on the replacement". The best I've seen was "The yellowing is less severe". The worst was "The yellowing is more severe", save for the poor people who have gotten a DOA, flickering, etc replacement.

I'm afraid you're right... :-(
But hope you're wrong! I'll let you know if my replacement has the yellow thinge..
Did anybody try to remove the glass plate. Maybe the problem is in the glass coating?

Indeed, now that I have played with it for a few hours at a stretch, I can safely say the week 41 machine is flawless. For a few minutes there I noticed what appeared to be a dead pixel, but it turned out to be a smudge. I am really stoked.

Thanks guys, and especially the one forum member who gave me the right email address to register my experience at the Apple Store with.

I have no idea why the week 41 machine doesn't have the issues, but, I will take it. I am not saying all week 41 machines will be flawless, of course, but the chances are, that these are from a better batch... If anyone wants me to post the make of the LCD, or other components in this machine, I will gladly do that. Do kindly let me know how to go about finding the same (outside of the System Profiler).

Good luck guys!

Well, mine just shipped....

...and it's a Week 50. I'll give you all an update on Monday when it arrives. *cursing myself for getting the free shipping*

Congratzzz!!!
I hope that al new models are problem free as well.

Can you give us some hope and publish a picture of the screen, using the test in this thread. So we can determine that Apple is capable of producing an flawless iMac. Without the yellow thinge...

The third replacement has been ordered and should arrive in a week and a half or so.. Hopefully most issues will be dealt with by then.

I have been on sporadically in the last year or so, but when buying my mbpro this same issue was around. I was hesitant to buy it for fear of the the nasty yellow. I finally bit the bullet and bought the machine. I never ran the relevant test on it because if I did not really notice the problem without the test, why focus on the issue. I believe my screen has the yellow but not really enough to bother me. In my case, ignorance is bliss.

However, I am not aware that apple ever fixed the problem with the mbpro yellowing screen. That problem was around for what seemed like years and for all I know, still exists. Did Apple ever fix the issue or acknowledge it? I would say their response to that problem will be the best we could hope for on the 21.5 and 27" screen yellowing issue.....

Screen was replaced

I just had my screen replaced and here is what I noticed.
The Yellow in the bottom right is gone however I still notice 'bands' of yellow flowing through the screen, in this case it is a lot LESS noticeable!

This is not good news, it just makes it even more difficult to decide what to do next! Perhaps I will just wait 6 months and place another service call when they get the display right.

I'm pretty sure the yellow screen on the MBP was caused by the viewing angle, and I'm not sure this was considered to be a problem.

The iMac discoloration issue is not related to the viewing angle, but rather the uniformity of the color on the screen.

I just read this from the official Apple Discussion forums. This suggest that there maybe other kinds of yellowing that can develop overtime.

I have the wonderful new 27" iMac i7 (2TB HD), from week 47 manufacture run. However the screen had a very slight yellow tinge along the bottom from day one, but over the last week that has developed into yellow blotches around the full bottom right quarter of the screen when the machine has been running for a full day. Elements of the yellowing has a distinct 'honeycomb' appearance. I am 5 days within the 14 day return policy.

Noticing that throughout the day that the yellow is spreading. Specifically across the bottom from the right to left. Definitely can't wait to get this resolved.

I'll like to thank everyone who have contributed to this thread. Hopefully Apple can rectify the issue soon with all the information we have gathered (especially knowing that Week 41 iMacs are yellow free).

I'm on the phone with Apple right now and, it took some moaning and whining, but they finally agreed to do an advance replacement for my yellow i7. Yay! I'm honestly now in no hurry whatsoever to get the replacement -- let them work out all of the bugs and then ship me one with no issues.

Hint -- if anyone needs an advance replacement and is having a problem getting Apple to approve it, have the product specialist go through customer relations. If the product specialist asks the sales department to approve an advanced replacement, they'll tell him/her to pound sand.

So they were reluctant to switch it out?

So they were reluctant to switch it out?

They weren't reluctant at all to swap it out. They were reluctant to do an advance exchange. They had to get a special exception from "customer relations" to do it -- the product specialist couldn't do it and the sales folks (who evidently normally handle product replacements) wouldn't do it. Of course, I have to front the cost of the replacement until they receive the bad computer back, but I don't have a problem with that.

I will say that once he got the okay to do the advance exchange, it went pretty quickly.

This, of course, does not at all ensure that the new one will be any better than the current one. But, I'm only doing one more exchange, so whichever one turns out to be better is the one I'll be keeping. Of course, I'll have to run the replacement for about a week to make sure that it doesn't have the flicker issue.

Just got off the phone with Apple. They will be replacing my week 49 iMac 27" (with bonus yellow tinge!). I was actually willing to hold onto it until they had sorted the issue but they pushed me to get it replaced. I only received it yesterday. Fingers crossed the replacement has no issues!

I started up my 21.5" at the Apple store. Seemed and looked fine. Now that its home and been on for a few hours, the yellow tinge is definitely appeared, at the bottom and to the right. Seems the screen needs time to warm up and show its true colours LOL

Mine is a Week '48' machine

Week 47 i7 here with an excellent yellow tint. Just finished dealing with Apple Support who are holding off shipping me a new machine until after the Xmas period (hey I can live with a yellow tinge until then). I will also be keeping hold of this machine until Apple ship me out a new one.

They claim it is due to special circumstances (I7 machine, Xmas period and according the the nice support lady "a lot of maintenance at the moment")

Might be a strategy worth trying if you want to delay shipping to get a later build machine...

Hey there, great news!

I'm not sure whether a strategy is actually needed; I managed to achieve the same by simply asking to keep hold of the current machine until I receive the replacement - The tech support person was more than willing to accommodate my request without me having to make a case.

I've recived today mi i7 and yellow tinge is there! in the bottom of the screen expecially in the right side there a sort of yellow bubble! I use my computer for 3 or 4 day the i call apple for replacement! The Yelow tinge is visible only with white or grey background...no problem with other color background.......in safari problem is there when i surfing on a white or grey page.....

P.S. my i7 is week 49

I more meant if you want a later build machine, ask them to hold off on the shipping until after Xmas - I now have a period of a week after the 28th to call up and confirm I want an exchange or refund (with my 14day doa officially finishing today)

Just my 2c ;)

Does anyone suspect the Logic Board as a possible cause of the Yellow tint ?

After a closer look I think that probably i not send back my iMac. Yellow Tinge is here but with the actual situation how many probaility i've to recive a perfect 27" i7 iMac? the one that i've now have only the yellow tinge problem but apart from that no other problems. Someone help me in this decision?
