I can't believe my eyes

my 27 iMac i7 2TB was just delivered and I can't believe that I have yellow on the bottom

should I just send it back to avoid the pain and suffering of trying to deal with this?

Dude, are you getting payed by Apple? The only reasone i've posted only corners is to show the radical difference, but here you are. Picture was taken last morning:

I've been using macs for almost 7 years and my very first PBook screen is still better. Why? I dont get it, sorry.

Well, your photo shows DARK corners, so at least you don't have the dreaded light bleed in the corners that has been reported. The photo, again, is meaningless I'm afraid. There is NO WAY YOUR SCREEN ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE THAT – bright in the middle and dark in the corners. I'm sure the problem you describe is real enough, but I believe the evidence of your words over any such photo.

MOD: Can you ask that childish "Industrial" guy to stop repeat-posting multi-collections of my posts over and over, out of context and wasting everyone's time? It's bad enough he has nothing to say himself and just trolls here repeating the same anti-Apple mantra in every thread. I don't see why he should be permitted to turn other people's reasonably-placed posts into site graffiti, over and over.

Giving the iMac a pass... for now...

With all the problems I've seen with these iMacs I'm not buying one. I can't believe Apple continues to allow this to happen...

Hi to all, here are a few more photos but this time there not grey bars not solid white screen, actually something my camera can focus on.this is a week 53 21.5in imac it too has a yellow tinge (bugger) but hay its not to prominent so i will live with it as the rest of the machine is fine.i can always sell it down the road when the imac 2 comes out or may even wait to see what the new mac book pros are like but in the mean time as there is no absolute fix at this time, its time to at least try and enjoy this thing. cheers..................http://imgur.com/bOKRJ.jpg http://imgur.com/OUBVW.jpg

I just got my i5 refurb. Absolutely horrid.

The left side is nice and white and clean, then at the middle the yellow/brownish shoots up to the top of the screen and comes down and levels out about 1/5 of the screen till the right edge ends. It reminds me of a graph... makes a nice peak and then a low.

This is just insane. I didnt have to go out of my way and find that issue either, it was front and center the first time I started up my iMac.

My brother who I didnt say anything to, even commented on why it looks like someone spilled soda pop on my screen.

Will you guyd accept this?

Got my week 12 for my third replacement. As you would guess, It still have the yellow issue and terrible back-light bleeding.

Here are the pictures. any advice?

I have been wondering if all iMacs have this problem due to IPS technology or it's just me. My second replacement had the same back- light bleeding as the third one.

I also would like to know how I can tell if this is normal or acceptable for the back- light bleeding. Any example?

Have spoken with Apple and they want to take my iMac back to look at the problem and issue a new machine to me.

However, it must be an exact unit swap, I can't look at an alternative machine like a Mac Pro with ACD for example. Has anyone else had this as I know a few people mentioned they didn't want another iMac as a replacement, just wondering how they got on with Apple?

So, I got mine back from repair trip number 3.

They fixed the screen noise from "clealy defective" to "within specs" (still audible & annoying). I dont know if they also swapped the panel - I think so since it does not have the grey bar issue I meant to see the last time. (I hardly get to see my Mac anymore. I think it has given up on me)
Now, it has an "acceptable" screen with very slightly yellowing. I guess I would never have noticed this IF I SLEPT UNDER A ROCK the last 10 years of LCD development.

But now, they left a significant amount of dust and fibres under the glas. Can you believe it? I'm so fed up with the iMacs - I continue to warn everybody not to buy one of those!

I guess I would have settled with this machine if it were clean inside. Lesson learned: Never buy integrated machine again. Never buy 1st Generation machine again (I thought, they were a generation up from the last ones...).

Im guessing you spent nearly $2000 on this Mac.

Would you keep a brand new White sports car if it had a yellow stian down one side?

Just picked up replacement #3 from the Sydney store today. #1 was a week 52, screen was perfect, but had the high pitched noise related to the screen brightness. #2 was a week 3 (this year, natch) but with bad yellowing. #3 is also a week 3, but with only slight yellowing. After all this trouble, I think I might just have to settle with what I have (although I still can't see why I should have to).
I've organised for the store manager to contact me tomorrow. Each time I've had to drive 180km's round trip, pay $5 in tolls, and $12 for parking, + fuel.
I'm going to try to get free AppleCare for all my trouble.
Also, I purchased the first one just last week, so clearly Apple are not on top of things just yet. Maybe I need a Macbook Pro?

Mate, don't get AppleCare (that's if you want to BUY it, which then I realised you'd try to get it free). Extended warranties are near 100% profit. You should've bought it online and then if you want to send it back due to defects, TNT comes and pick it up at Apple's expense.

Secondly, if you'll buy AppleCare, why buy at your expense when the problem is theirs, especially it is a repeated defect issue on first use? They should throw in AppleCare for customers who have ongoing problems.

I'm also having problems (onto my 3rd one now), and replacement takes longer because they've got to get stock from Sydney to Brissie but a lot better than doing the transit yourself. What you should do next time is to check the computer in-store and only if it's not defective then bring it home. Otherwise the other option is to refund. It is totally reasonable considering you paid +$2000 for the fruit. Good luck.

If you want a MacBook Pro, a new update is due soon.

Yep, I know a new Macbook Pro is on the way. I'm just running out of patience over this whole thing. The reason I've been driving up instead of them picking it up is because I need a computer on a daily basis, so I can't wait for a replacement to be shipped.
Just out of curiosity, does your iMac make a loud click noise when you put it into sleep? (I think it must be the hard drive). It's something I've noticed on the last 2 that I have returned, but not on my previous ones.

The 1st one had no noise at all, but I didn't check the HD manufacturer as I didn't read bout this issue. (Week 9)

The 2nd one sounded like "tzzk", with each happening about a second or 2 apart. I noticed this before I saw other people were also concerned about the sounds the iMacs were making). It only happened when the computer was on but was not loud (though clearly audible). I can't say for sure if I heard anything when it is off because I don't let it sleep. (Week 11, Seagate HD ST31000528ASQ)

I had the same exact experience. I took my iMac to an Apple store and they replaced some sort of power converter. The machine was quieter however the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse stopped working. I took it back to the store and they had forgotten to plug in the Bluetooth module. When I brought it home I noticed that there was dust and fibers on the back of the screen. I brought it back to the store for them to clean it out. The store called me back the next day and said they damaged the screen trying to clean it and they'll replace the whole unit. Guess what, my replacement iMac was as noisy as the first iMac. So I don't have a lot of confidence the Apple stores are really set up to repair iMac in a dust free environment.

So, I got mine back from repair trip number 3.

My week 52 had the Seagate drive. Both the week 3's have a NVidia drive, and when you select sleep, it makes a loud click noise, almost like someone clicking their fingers together. The noise they make when accessing the drive is acceptable, but much louder than other drives I've come across.

Ive just ordered x2 22" 16:10 1080p HP monitors that can be rotated into a portrait angle. Both come with DVI leads and the pair cost me £338.

Apple cant compete with that.

What if I hold onto the computer for now with the hope that Apple will figure out how to fix it. Then, whenever that happens, I'll send it back under warranty and hopefully live happily ever after.

Maaan, return it!

I went through quite stressfull month receiving/shipping/hoping to get a miracle to happen/disapointed with every each iMac and then strugling in doubts that WHAT IF APPLE SAY ITS WITHIN SPEC and then you stuck with it forever, hoping for the whole machine to die on you, so you can return it with damage Apple would recognize.

I came to this forum before i got my machine. So, i knew that i have a small chance of getting a machine i want. I didnt know that the spirit of having a new computer will be gone so quickly. That moment is gone.

If you are on this forum then you cannot live with those yellow spots.

I got an approve yesterday that they will refund my money without charging me a Restocking fee! 10%

The bottom line!

Unless you can go to a store, test iMac, bring it home and return it next day without hussle, I would not recommend buying it. YET!

There is nothing worse then regreting a new buy.

My uni has those HP screens in the computer lab (and iMacs in all libraries), and one of those HP screen has a reddish tinge on it, though that's rare since the rest look perfectly fine. The iMacs (previous 20" 16:10 model) look fine as well.
