and i'm with everyone else... these broken screen photos make me sad in my soul. :(

as much as the shipping damage sucks, what amazes is are the folks that got utterly indignant about the suggestion by Apple Care that they take the machines to a store for testing and replacement glass. Folks were screaming that the reps were trying to be cheap etc when in fact they were more likely trying to save folks the time of waiting for a new machine when perhaps the only thing wrong was the broken glass. but instead of booking an appointment and possibly having the computer back in 24 hours they whined while they were shipping it back and having to wait a week or more for the new computer to arrive.

speaking of 'whining', charlituna, you're doing a great job yourself.

sheesh man, give it a rest already, please... you weren't even affected by any of this, yet you come on here and shill for Apple over and over and over... it's nauseating, really. please stop it.

moving along... i got my replacement 27" iMac. it arrived in one piece this time (phew). i'll report back later in the week with my impressions, likes, dislikes, etc.

btw muskratboy, hyperbole aside, the world's got much bigger problems than broken computer screens... which should bring a lot of sadness to everyone's soul. don't you think?

Those who like 27" display but do not want to buy it with iMac (for whatever reasons) might consider buying new DELL monitor that uses the same ISP panel from LG:

Yeah, but does it flicker and have a band of yellow across its bottom?
I've had some interest in the Dell U2711 for the past few weeks. It's also supplied by LG as well. Hopefully it won't have the defects but it's entirely possible since they're from the same panel provider.

maybe, maybe not. we'd need to know the actual defect.

if it is in the screen then sure, there's a risk.

but if it is the graphics card or some kind of busted, jarred loose connector, you are likely safe since you are talking about just a display
