So is everyone using/going to be using the Apple Migration Assistant with their new iMacs?

I was going to try this. i have far too many programs/passwords, many of which I've probably misplaced and or lost while moving.

My only question would be how to find and get rid of some of the unused things that I haven touched in years and/or orphaned files from programs I purged so that my new iMac doesn't get cluttered with the legacy junk.

Week 49 build!
Will the AMA work on an old G4 original flatscreen iMac? You know, the "lampstand" model. It still works and has a few old photos/videos I would like to salvage. But mostly I will be using Parallels8 switch to Mac edition to transfer and run a lot of Windows7 stuff from my Dell.

Mine shipped on Wednesday I believe and I have an expected delivery of Wednesday, but interestingly enough we were on the same plane to Louisville and neither of us has gone farther than that. Hmmm.

It takes a while. Mine shipped on the 10th and did not get full info until the 14th. I have Monday delivery.

Is that a small crush mark? Hope it's okay!

It's ok as far as the innerbox and the mac itself and picture for the most part EXCEPT it has a few dead pixels:rolleyes::mad:

Going to have to take it back and will probably end up back in here sometime waiting for my replacement. Just when you thought no more "processing" items:eek::eek:

Happy you received it early! But sorry to hear about the dead pixels... Can't believe they wouldn't check that before sending it out... It could probably take a while, so I'd suggest maybe letting Apple know about it, and then telling them you will take care of it once things start slowing down after the Holidays... If it doesn't bother you too much that is.

How obvious are the dead pixels? Can you take a pic?

Edit: It seems that you need 16 or so dead pixels before Apple will replace the screen under warranty. Perhaps returning it may be the best option... Maybe you should call them and let them know you are probably going to return it, and they may offer to replace the screen instead... never know

See the thread here that policy is supposedly for macs out of warranty. I'm pretty much confused at this point on what to do. It just might be normal. If anybody in here can open an all black jpg in fullscreen on your iMac and see if yours exhibits what mine does it'd be appreciated. :(

I am so disappointed that mine is being shipped by UPS

It shipped on the 13th and is still is Shanghai... well the last scan was export scan so maybe it is in the air... who knows.

Some that have shipped via fedex on the 13th have already received theirs. Mine just got the delivery pushed back to the 20th, was the 19th. This doesn't feel like expedited shipping to me.

Maybe i will get lucky and UPS will surprise me in the end.

Bayleaves? No preparing to ship? I can't believe it! Strong forces are conspiring. More magic needed! :apple::D:apple: I'm pullin for ya.

I will be using Migration Assistant, the same as I did to set up my current iMac (mid 2011). It worked very well.

I use a program called CleanApp to delete unwanted programs and files. It does a good job of finding the hidden portions of a program that would be left behind if you just send a program to the Trash.

It also doesn't just delete all the hidden pieces automatically it let's you choose if you want to and gives you a risk level of potential dangers in doing so.

So.... does this mean tomorrow or Tuesday?

I would say Monday. What time did yours arrive in Memphis?

I got that when using the link in the original email from apple after I called and got expedited shipping. From then on I had to check order status from the website directly and not by clicking the link in the email.

That's awful! It's literally been years since I've seen a new LCD display with more than 1 dead/stuck pixel if they had any at all. To have "a few" is surely an outlier anomaly.
